Chapter 30

DUKE POV

We were all sitting there having dinner as normal, but you could tell something was up with Lily. She had been distant from everybody and putting on a front for the whole day now and nobody could figure out why. We had freed the Fae, so you’d think she’d be happy. I was brought out of my musings when my mate, May, put her hand on my thigh.

What’s wrong honey? she asked me through our mate link.

Nothing really. Just trying to figure what’s going on with Lily, I respond.

I sensed a trickle of jealousy run through our bond, and I’m quick to squash that. She is only a friend. I see her more as one of the guys than anything. The jealously instantly fades away.

I’m sorry. I don’t mean to insinuate anything. I just know that you’ve been spending a lot of time with her, and . . . Well I was just being stupid. Forgive me? she asks using the pout I can never resist.

There’s nothing to forgive. I smile at her, then tune back into the conversation.
