Hardin

It was lunch break. I finished up my lunch and took a stroll before the break elapsed.

My mind was still preoccupied. I was embittered and angry, I couldn't believe Pearl harbored such thoughts against me. I felt used and stupid for sticking to her and helping her.

I haven't seen her today and I don't bloody care.

"Did you hear the news?" Jayden's voice sounded from a distance.

I turned around and saw him running towards me. He tried to catch his breath and spoke incoherently.

"What news is so urgent?" I asked.

"It's Pearl…"

"Stop! Shit! I don't want to hear anything about her! Fuck!"

"Common! Common! Hardin! This is serious! She…"

"I said stop it! I yelled and gripped his neck tightly.

He struggled free from my hold and yelled into my face, "I don't seem to understand you!" Holding my hand firmly in his, he dragged me towards the tarred road that led down to the infirmary.
