Chapter 6

(Kendric’s pov)

“I am sure you will find her again soon,” my Beta, Marcel, tried to calm me down after I lost my mate’s trail at the mall. I was so frustrated. For three whole years, I had been searching for her, and just when I thought I could finally find my Luna, she escaped right in front of my eyes.

I huffed out annoyedly and kept my eyes on the road. We were heading to an Alpha pack meeting now. The restaurant slowly came into view, and my wolf Kieran howled excitedly. What’s wrong? I tried talking to my wolf, but he ignored my question. I took a deep breath and calmed him down, I couldn’t let him lose control right here. Marcel and I entered the restaurant, and a sweet rose mixed with fresh summer air scent wafted by. I abruptly turned my head towards a table where two girls were sitting, my eyes were fixed on the one who caught my attention the moment my eyes laid on her. She had dirty blond hair, grey eyes, and a beautiful smile. My wolf screamed jubilantly Mate! It’s our mate!

Before I could stop myself, I was walking towards her table. She must have noticed my intention because she was backing away. But before she could, I held her shoulders and spoke those words that I had in mind for so long. “Mate, finally.”

What I didn’t expect were the words that came out of her rosy, kissable lips. “This must be some mistake,” she replied. I could sense her fear and was annoyed by this. She shouldn’t be afraid of me, she’s my mate.

I growled, “You’re my mate.” How dare she deny this, I could tell that she was my mate since the moment I saw her.

Her friend must have observed her struggle and stood up for her. “Mister, I don’t think she wants to go with you, now you better let her go before I scream for help.” Her friend glared at me. I was outraged, I could feel my wolf getting overprotective over his mate and unleashing his anger. My hands were around her friend’s neck in the next second, unable to rein my temper.

My mate immediately jumped out of her trance and pried my hands off her. I turned towards her, my wolf whining slightly when he saw my mate looking as if she would have a mental breakdown soon and her beautiful face was contorted with anger now. I knew I had to stop or else her friend could really lose her life, but still, I needed her to come with me first.

“You will come with me, or else I will choke her.” I threatened. Knowing that she was left with no choice, she agreed.

After bringing her friend home, we were now sitting in the limo, heading toward my pack.

“So what’s your name?” I asked, hoping that this could start a conversation.

She hesitated for a while before answering, “Layana Yarrow.” Layana. Such a sweet name. I thought.

“I turn 18 today. Faria was just celebrating my birthday with me just now,” she explained.

I couldn’t help but feel sorry that I ruined her birthday, especially when she treasured that friendship that much. I decided to apologize to her.

“Happy birthday. I am sorry for hurting your friend just now, I just don’t like people defying me.” I said genuinely. She smiled slightly. It pained my wolf that she was upset because of us. I tried changing the subject to lift the mood.

I briefly introduced myself, “I am 21 years old. I’ve been alpha since 18 and I have been searching for you for the past 3 years. I am glad that you are finally here now.” I grinned at her.

At the sight of my smile, she blushed slightly. I decided to tease her a little.

“You know you don’t have to be shy. You can just gaze at me whenever you want,”

“That’s not what I was thinking about. And you are not that attractive, so you can stop being so narcissistic.” She retorted.

Before she could react, I leaned forward suddenly. Lifting her chin with my fingers, I looked into her stunning eyes, I could feel the mate bond pulling us closer, and my eyes involuntarily turned to her lips. I let her go, controlling myself from marking her. Not today, I slowly cursed.

Layana didn't talk much after that and we stayed in silence. I watched as she slowly drifted off to sleep. I gazed at her. I had to admit she was breathtaking, her long curly hair fitted her face perfectly, and together with her porcelain skin, I couldn’t help but want to touch her face. But why her? I asked the Moon Goddess silently. She scrunched her eyebrows slightly and stirred a little, clearly having a nightmare. I chuckled a little, for a Luna as strong-willed and tough as her, she could surely be cute sometimes.

The limo finally came to a stop. I carried her bridal style and walked up the entrance. She was still asleep when I placed her in bed. I put some blankets on her and made sure she was safe before exiting the room.

I walked towards my office, planning to finish up some pack-work.

“So you are finally back?” A silky voice said and I lifted my eyes and met with Berna’s.
