I didn’t have the heart to tell her that we may not be able to face this together if things went south. If Anders succeeded in casting enough doubt among the Council, it wouldn’t end with just stripping me of my Alpha status. The most likely outcome would see me being hauled off to some dark hole somewhere.

I’d been mind linking with Max to coordinate a plan to get Sutton away to safety if the worst should happen. I honestly didn’t know if the Council would do anything to Sutton if they ruled against me but I was sure they wouldn’t protect her from Anders or Mason. I wasn’t about to leave her vulnerable to whatever plans they have in mind. That included not letting her go anywhere on her own, especially to see the sister who was so clearly working with them against her.

I expected her to argue more when I insisted on coming with to meet with Hannah. However, while she was initially hesitant, she easily agreed that it was the safer option. We went down to the garden area about half an

We sent Max and Motty out to keep a handle on the situation. Hotel security didn’t stop at just searching our suite. They moved on to search every room on our floor. And apparently, Alpha Renward’s floor as well. He reached out to us not long after they had left us. From the sound of it, Anders had wanted to check Alpha Derion’s and Alpha Thane’s floors as well but the head of security refused. I guess he didn’t want to end up in trouble for disrespecting half the pack Alphas in the country.“We got incredibly lucky,” I told Lucas when things had died down. “I wasn’t even thinking about Anders trying to get the box back last night. If I hadn’t thought to send it to Soloman…”“Why would you think about it?” Lucas stated. “The fact that he pulled this stunt just shows how desperate and/or pissed off he really is. What would they have done even if they did find it here? It yours, Sutton. I belongs to you and it would have been easy to prove just by opening it.”“That’s true…” I replied.

“We need to get to Hannah,” Sutton insisted as soon as we were back in our room. “Once they find out she took the box, they’ll kill her.”“They won’t go that far, not here,” I said. “Not after what you just did. It would destroy them.”“You overestimate Mason’s control,” Sutton said. “Besides, you heard her last night, she’s going to tell Mason herself. She truly believes she did him a favor by giving it me.”“Okay… I’m not sure what is going on, but is this about the box I think it’s about?” Max asked.“Yes,” Sutton said. “The box my mother for me. The box Anders stole from me.”“How the hell did Hannah end up with it?”“Honestly, I have no idea,” Sutton replied.“Anders must have brought it along,” I said. “For some last-ditch attempt to lay claim to Sutton somehow, maybe.”“Hang on… You guys have the box? So… what was inside it? Did you find the answers you’ve been looking for?” Motty asked.“We didn’t open it,” I said.“I wanted to wait until we were back home,” Sutton admitted.“

Applause erupted throughout the room, but I barely registered it. All I saw was Sutton. Pride and adoration filled me to the point I thought my chest would burst. All I wanted was to go to her and kiss her. Take her right here so everyone would know without a doubt that she was mine.I managed to restrain myself. Don’t ask me how.The room began to quiet down once again and Councilman Erhardt began to speak again.“Thank you, Ms. Langston,” he said respectfully. “Regardless of what anyone else in this room believes, you have shown true bravery and resilience today.”Finally managing to pull my eyes away from my incredible mate, I took the chance to scan the room. Looking for any signs of disagreement. Other than the Dawn Stalkers, no one was showing any outward signs of doubt about Sutton’s recounting. Although there were a few who seemed uncomfortable, even among the Council. I made a note to keep an eye on those faces, suspecting a connection to Anders and his agenda.“You have earn

I expected Mason to have another outburst, maybe even Anders, but there was no response. I looked over in surprise. Mason’s face was red, jaw clenched, I could see the vein bulging from his neck even from where I stood. He was obviously uncomfortable. Anders must have commanded him to stay quiet and he was trying to fight it.He was losing.“We will take your request into consideration, Alpha Lucas,” Councilman Erhardt stated before turning to address the room. “Given this new evidence along with Alpha Lucas’ testimony, I am going to ask if any of those who came forward prior to this session would like to recant their statements?” The room remained quiet. The silence broken only by the uncomfortable fidgeting of a few attendees in the room, and even a few council members. “Very well. You will be released for lunch while the council deliber…”“Wait,” I shouted, getting to my feet. The entire room turned to look at me. I felt the edge of panic start to creep in but Nova quickly pushed f

With a final squeeze of my hand, Lucas released it as he stood. Max followed behind him as he strode confidently to the front of the room. He took his place at the podium and couldn’t help the pride that welled in my chest as I looked at him. The respect his presence demanded radiated through the room. Like a true Alpha.“Alpha Lucas,” Councilman Erhardt began, “you stand here before the summit being accused of kidnap, coercion, and unprovoked aggression against a neighboring pack. How do you respond to these allegations?”“Not guilty, Councilman,” Lucas replied. “This complaint is not only a fabrication but a blatant misrepresentation of the truth.”“So, you are saying that you have not ordered any attacks on the border of the Dawn Stalker territory?” Erhardt questioned.“On the contrary, I have had to expend more men and resources along my borders just to keep the Dawn Stalkers out of my own territory,” Lucas stated. “There were no attacks or border conflicts along our boundaries pr

Tarvyn and Amos escorted Motty and me down to the conference hall not long before the session was due to start. We seemed to be the last ones down. Except for Lucas, who I didn’t see anywhere. We moved to the atrium to wait for him. I was trying not to start pacing when Anders and Mason came down the hall, Hannah in tow with the rest of their entourage.Apparently, we weren’t the last to arrive.Anders didn’t even bother to look in my direction, but Mason wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to flash me that smug sneer of his. Honestly, it was almost laughable at this point. They entered the conference room and the moment the door closed behind them, Lucas and Max came around the corner. Lucas came directly to me, grabbing my face and kissing me firmly.“You ready?” he asked when he pulled away.I nodded. “Ready.”He took my hand and led me inside. The Council began to file into the conference hall just as we made it to our seats. Lucas kept a hold of my hand throughout the entire gre
