PENIEL

I woke up from a deep slumber, my eyes fluttering open to a bright, sterile light and I looked around, taking in my surroundings.

I wasn't in my room, and where I was looked like some kind of hospital.

The beeping of machines, the scent of disinfectant, it all felt so foreign.

I tried to sit up, but a wave of weakness washed over me, forcing me back onto the pillows.

That's when I saw her. Preya, her eyes red-rimmed, her face contorted in a mixture of grief and relief, ran towards me, sobbing like a baby.

"Peniel!" She cried as she noticed me.

"Preya, what's... what's wrong?" I tried to ask, my voice hoarse, barely audible.

"Oh Peniel, you're awake, thank goodness."

But Preya's sobs drowned out my words.

She collapsed onto the bed, her arms wrapping around me, holding me tight. I felt her tears soaking my hospital gown, and I knew something was terribly wrong.

The pack healer appeared, her expression somber, her eyes filled with a deep sadness.
