~Lyra POV

I had my face pressed against the wooden door and I held onto my dress. My heart raced as I was eager to hear the conversation that came from the other side of the door.

Earlier that morning, I heard that my father the alpha of the silver moon pack was having a meeting with the high ranked wolves and….it had something to do with me.

I knew whenever the meeting was about me, it never ended well. It would either end with a fight or my father beating someone up. Gradually, the rumors about how protective my father was about me began to spread and they started saying things against him.

They said I wasn't worth the stress…because I was HUMAN. Unlike my father who happened to be an alpha, I was just a human always wandering around the village with nothing good to offer. No one needed to tell me before I knew that they all didn't want me around.

They said I would end up bringing humans who would take over the village and destroy them.

No matter how hard father tried….they didn't believe I wouldn't betray the pack.

“We can no longer keep Lyra among us,” someone said. I recognized that voice and it belonged to no one else but Beta Bryce. He hated me the most. I could tell from his cold voice.

“And what is that supposed to mean?” Father asked.

“It's either she dies or she leaves the village completely,” Beta Bryce added and my heart hit my chest. They would only tell my father that I was being a burden, but never had they said anything about me having to leave.

I had no where to go and they knew it.

“Where is all of this coming from? Do you realize that Lyra is my daughter?” Father reminded.

“Alpha Lord, Lyra has nothing to offer the pack!”

“She is still my daughter!”

“Lord, Lyra is nothing but a burden. All she does is bring down the pack one way or the other. Our soilders would be more effective if they do not always have to keep an eye on her!” someone else said and I had tears streaming down my face.

“The ineffectiveness of the soilders has nothing to do with Lyra being protected!” Father sneered.

“Lord, only if you chose to ignore it. We all know that Lyra is nothing but a waste of resources. We all know that protecting her is nothing but a waste of time. She's just going to die off one day like every other human, without a purpose or any use for us!”

“Do not call my daughter, useless!” Father growled and I could sense the anger in his voice.

“The pack is gradually going weak, Lord. Maybe is she were a wolf we would have married her to one of the alpha's son in another village and with allies, our pack would be stronger,” beta Bruce said and…he was right.

“What if she were a son? Then would you still marry her off to one of those sons?” Father defended.

“At least you would have a child that would continue your legacy. Your name and bloodline wouldn't vanish after your death.”

“Lyra would get married when the time comes!” Father seethed.

“No one is willing to marry Lyra. They say she's weak and she has nothing to offer them. Not even the omegas. From our own village are willing to get married to her. We cannot afford being weighed down because of her, your highness. She has to go,” Beta Ryder said.

I held my mouth, preventing myself from making a sound as I cried. At that point, I wished I had not come to listen to their conversation.

I asked my father why I wasn't married yet, but he told me that he was the one rejecting all the men because they weren't good enough for me. I didn't know I was the one who was being rejected.

If he had just told me the truth, it wouldn't hurt this much.

“Do not talk to me with such disrespect, Bryce just because my daughter is not like us!” Father yelled.

“All of this wouldn't be happening if you hadn't married her mother in the first place. Everyone tried to convince you but you didn't listen, saying your child would be one of us…but there she is. She's nothing but a weak and helpless human!” Beta Ryder persisted.

“Do not talk about her mother! She died for your sake! She died because of all of you!” Father yelled.

I heard beta Ryder's scoff. “she didn't die because she tried to stop the curse. She died because was too weak to handle the stone,” Beta Ryder reminded.

Father was silent.

I could tell that those words hurt him.

He told me my mother died because of a stone that's as said to have placed curses on the people in the village. She died trying to eliminate the stone and instead of appreciating her, they said she died because she was weak.

“My daughter remains with us. She must be protected and she must be adored because she is my daughter!”

“I am afraid Lord but the decision has been made. I guess you understand what that means,” Alpha Ryder said.

Better than anyone else, I understood what that meant. Father was indirectly being threatened. Everyone knew how strong Beta Ryder was and the only reason he still remained humble to my father was because my father helped him while they were younger.

I knew if Beta Ryder tried to overthrow my father because of me, he would have everyone else on his side and my father's chances of keeping his position would be slim.

“I'll find something to do about it,” Father said.

I ran back to my room and buried my head into my pillow. My heart ached as what I had just heard ran through my mind. My father was scared of losing his position and I knew what that meant.

I would be forced to leave the pack.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

Loud knocks landed on my door.

“Come in,” I answered, trying to wipe my tears, thinking it was one of the maids but I was wrong. It was my father.

I couldn't hide it. “what have you come to tell me? That I should leave the pack as soon as I can?” I asked and father came to hold my hand.

“No, Lyra. I have come to tell you that you would be getting married.” He answered.

LYRA'S POVThe morning light slips through the open curtains. A golden haze stretching across the room and slipping lazily over Ethan's bed.I blink awake slowly, breathing in the soft scent of his cologne tangled in pine and warmth. The kind of scent that makes your chest ache in the best way.The sheets are a mess, one of his arms thrown around my waist, holding me hostage in the best possible way. He's on his back, hair damp from the shower last night, his face is relaxed in sleep, jaw less tense, lashes long and dark against his cheek. This version of him is unburdened, peaceful– rare. And so, so beautiful. There's something so boyish about watching Ethan sleep. Like the alpha armor falls off and I get off the man beneath.I smile and shift just enough to reach up and brush a lock of hair away from his forehead. He stirs slightly, tightening his hold on me like some part of him knows I'm trying to move. I give up quickly because honestly? There's nowhere else I'd rather be.I stay

ETHAN'S POV*MEETING ROOM– LATER THAT NIGHT*“You're telling me this kind of magic doesn't exist in our archives?” I snap at Caleb– the wolf assigned to keep account of every important document. He flinches but holds his ground. “Not in ours. But…maybe in the older texts. Ones that predate the last purge.”Great. Just great! We were going to dig through magic that had been deliberately erased from the records.“Find them.” I say. “I don't care if they're buried under six feet of silver ash, or sealed in blood. I want answers.”“There's one more thing.” He says nervously. “One of the bodies from this morning– wasn't completely dead when we found it.”I freeze.“What?”“He was breathing. Barely. Just long enough to say one thing.”Caleb swallows. “He said. It's awakening.”It feels like a stone got dropped in my stomach and I sigh as I lean against my hands rested on the table.“I've seen symbols like this before. Old witchcraft. Forbidden rites. Blood rituals that require… Offerings.”

ETHAN'S POVThe air shifts. That subtle but unmistakable drop in energy– like the calm before a storm, sort of.I immediately straighten, arms tightening around Lyra protectively as I take in the guards' expression. He's pale. Too pale. His eyes wide, glassy with something between fear and disbelief, and I feel all my instincts immediately snap to high alert.“What happened?” I demand, feeling Lyra tense up even more beside me.He swallows, chest heaving. “It's the northern clearing. The warded section you ordered patrols around. We found something…sir, I don't know how to explain it–”My pulse ticks up a notch. “Show me.” I cut him off, not wanting to wait for any more explanation.Lyra grabs my hand before I can leave. “I'm coming with you.”I open my mouth to argue– but I see the gleam in her eyes. That deep-rooted resolve that'd always, always win.I nod once, press a kiss to her temple as we both follow the guard out of the training center and into the open courtyard. We walk for

CLARA'S POVI wake up gasping and drenched in sweat.I shoot upright, my hands fisting the sheets. My breath fogs the air.The room is pitch black– eerily lacking of light. What happened to my night lamp I usually left on?I reach over and flip the switch but nothing happens and I feel an unpleasant rumble run through my stomach. My eyes can't help but flick to the mirror across the room– the one Lyra had helped me cover with a sheet before she left. But I still her watching me. That woman. The red-eyed thing that smiled like it knew me.Knew my pain– knew my past.I know what Lyra thinks. That I was hallucinating. Or overwhelmed. Maybe an effect of whatever damage I'd done through when I went missing. But I knew I hadn't been imagining things. The woman had spoken– she had been here– felt too real to be a figment of my imagination.Maybe it wasn't real– but it felt real. And worse than that? She looked like me. Just older. Sharper. Crueler.A flicker at the mirror catches my attentio

LYRA'S POVThe first thing I notice when I come to is warmth. Not the kind that comes from sunlight, but the kind that wraps around you like a living shield.I stir in bed, feeling around for my pillow, and sigh contently as I snuggle back into it.For some reason, my pillow feels humanly warm… Like it was breathing– and then I realize– I'm not in my room.Shit! My eyes fly open as I go stiff, memories of last night crashing through my mind.Clara. The scream. The mirror. Her shaking hands. Then Ethan. His room. His warmth. His ridiculously unfair chest.Ethan had wanted to leave his bed to me last night, but I had vehemently stood against it.It was freezing cold! And the bed was more than big enough for the both of us, so why would I agree to him sleeping on the couch, or worse floor when we could just share? And so after a few good rounds of him trying to refuse and continuously failing to my never-ending insistence, he gave in.But now, it seems the wall of pillows I'd been the on

LYRA'S POVA blood curling scream slices through the quiet like a knife. My heart shutters, chest tightening in panic. It came from down the hallways..."Clara!" I call, scrambling out of bed, all traces of sleep vanishing like smoke. My feet hits the floor hard, echoing through the empty hall.Every instinct screams that something's wrong. The way her voice cracked– it's not just fear. It's raw terror.I sprint down the corridor, feeling the weight of the packhouse closing in, shadows lengthening their claws to reach for me.I reach her door in seconds. It's locked."Clara! Please, open up!" My voice is urgent, desperate as I huff, breathing hard.No answer. Just silence, and a faint scent of cinnamon lingering outside.I pound on the door. "Clara! Please!"What could've possibly happened– be happening to her?My fingers fumble for the lock, heart hammering, like it's trying to escape my chest. The door clicks open just a crack, and I shove it wider, hurrying inside before she sudden
