46 - Elara

We drive Northwest in comfortable silence. After twenty minutes, he still hasn’t said anything, but he is more relaxed the further we get from Richard and Sebastian.

“You gonna tell me what we are doing, or should I be worried that you are taking me to an unknown location in the woods?” His focus snaps to me, completely appalled and serious. I raise an eyebrow, waiting.

He takes in a lets out an exasperated breath, “I got a text from Tommy and Alpha James, we have a meeting.”

“Were you going to say something, fill me in, heads up, anything? Or did you want me to go in blind, looking like a dumbass?” I lean on my hand as I propped my elbow on the window.

“I wasn’t sure if you would go along with it.” He shrugs.

“Well…I’m in the car with you, clearly I trust you. Maybe, give me the same respect.” I say frustrated with him. I cross my arms and face out the front window again. I thought we had come to a kind of understanding. He’s here, he’s a part of my pack now. I took a ver

48 - Ben“If we choose to work together, what does that mean for you? No offense High Priestess, but I’m not handing over what little pack territory we have to an unvetted ally.”“We do not wish to take what is not ours or to form permanent residence here. As for lodgings, we have capital to build and would be more than happy to invest in properties that you can use later for new pack members. This could be a down payment of sorts. Until then we are content to camp in the forest temporarily.”“How many coven members will be in your camp?”“There are thirty left in our coven, and we are not seeking to increase that number under the current circumstances.”“We believe there are wards or spells cast among the pack that are being used against us. Can you help remove them?”“That is a more difficult answer.” Elara stiffens in my arms at Briana’s answer. “I will not lie to you and tell you my magic can undo all other magic. That is not how it works and anyone who believes that will get dupe

47 - BenIt would probably be better if I had more answers, but I don’t and the disembodied voice isn’t helping my case. If I were the type to make a bet I would say the witch was listening in and having fun with us. I am not one to make bets I am not guaranteed to win.I feel Elara stiffen next to me at the phantom’s explanation. I snake my arm around her waist, not dumb enough to try to shield or restrain her, or make her feel like I am restraining her, but the need to have her close with the unknown is overwhelming.Pulling her back to my chest gently, I call out, “Briana? My name is Ben. Alpha James asked me to meet with you. He said you might be able to help us with our drug problem.”Silence fills the thick air around us. I can feel Jax and Dev move in on either side. They are smart and can read a situation easily. We are all on high alert. No matter how many times I have been told that Briana is friendly, I’ll believe it when I see it. I won’t sit here and get ambushed like a n

45 - Elara“Come on over Sebastian.” I raise my voice enough to be heard by all of the warriors in the surrounding area. After the attack on my dad no one is taking chances with his former team, they should be helping us with this drug problem though, not babysitting their own.He crosses the yard cautiously. I guess I would too, to see if it was a test. He doesn’t come up the steps though, which would have him walking behind Ben and I. He stays in our line of sight and jumps the railing, taking the chair in the corner. It’s the least accessible place to be. I can say they are both trying to show me they aren’t a threat to me. I’m just not sure if it’s a false sense of security like my dad had.He doesn’t wait for me to ask him to speak, “I will not throw the blame on a dead man. We were all to blame, not seeing Jeff for what he was, but you have to understand we are a team and need to be united. We have to trust each other in a fight. I may not have ever liked Jeff as a person. I thou

44 -BenIt’s a fight for her to even let me drive. I have been here off and on for months now, so I have a good idea of the pack layout, I don’t need to learn routes and where to go, but I like to know how she gets from place to place. As her Beta, I need to be able to anticipate her impulsivities and this is one of those things. So she gives me directions and I keep my mouth shut and drive.Until now, we generally went our separate ways and I checked in through text or another warrior. This is the first time, in a long time, that we are doing something together in her pack. The only time we ever teamed up was heading to do a border check or to Junior’s pack.“There’s his house.” She points to a small bungalo house. Not at all what I expected based on the way the packhouse is set up.I can see Richard sitting on his front porch, looking bored out of his mind. I would be too. She probably did the worst thing she could to him, and I’m not sure if it was intentional or not. She didn’t im

  • The Alpha's Unwanted Luna    Taming - 43 - Ben

43 - BenNow I see why Jax and Dev are the way they are. She doesn’t ask for help, I already knew that, but she has it in her head that she has to do everything alone and by herself. These guys really fuck up her understanding of what her team is supposed to be. I think that is where I am going to start and I will drag her ass with me to make a point. But first I need to be made a part of this pack. I’m sick of having to carry a phone when I could just mindlink people.“What about Richard?” She asks, trying to be stubborn, but I hear the hesitation.“What about him? He failed to protect your father in his time of grief. I’m still not convinced he isn’t a part of the problem.”“And Sebastian?”“Is a dumbass if he didn’t see any of this coming. He is the Delta, my guys have done more to protect your pack than he has. So he is also a part of the problem, or all your leadership got complacent and comfortable and forgot what it means to work for the pack. Either way a few things are going
