However much I tried, I couldn’t forget about the kiss with Jackson. It was on my mind all the time. I thought about him when I woke up, and when I was about to sleep and the time in between. It reached a point I wished he could just accept my rejection so we could move on with our lives. Sometimes, I wanted to withdraw my rejection. During those times, I was blind to everything except the things he had made me feel. When I remembered my brother, I felt like grabbing a knife and stabbing Jackson right in the heart.

Kat and my new friend Keith were doing a good job at making my life at Midnight Pack bearable. Keith was a slave who had been there for three years. He preferred being a slave at Midnight Pack instead of being free in his own because his pack was one of the poorest in the region. Life was so terrible that being a slave at another pack was welcome.
