Ch 4

Elora was in awe as she looked at the man before her. Suddenly his expression changed from confusion to annoyance and it seemed to Elora like he was about to attack her or even growl at her for crossing through the barrier but he suddenly sniffed her and moved backward.

She sighed because according to what she's heard, humans smell repulsive to wolves. It always made her feel so bad for Giselle that she always tried to apply some kind of deodorant to mask it. Or sometimes she would wrap an item of Giselle's around her neck so that she would end up smelling like a wolf at least.

" Hmm...umm. It seems you're lost," he said looking at her with a much warmer and patronizing look, making his cold appearance seem non-existent. But she was a little bit confused by his sudden mood shift. He was seconds away from growling at her some moments back, now he's being nice to her?

" This place is off limits," he said gesturing to the rest of the pack. It was then she realized what was going on. He thought she was a human who got to these parts of the woods by accident.

" Okay." She just said simply and then she realized that she had to play the part since he had just given her a good excuse to use.

" Honestly. I don't know why I ignored the sign on my...v-very human part of...where I live!" She said but that just made him stare at her weirdly.

" Just go back home." He said looking like he had lost some brain cells thinking about what she just said. Elora nodded and started to go through the barrier. But with every step, she took she couldn't help but wonder how Giselle would fair without her today.

Even though what she wanted the most is to leave the pack and live with her kind, she couldn't just leave Giselle. She decided to turn around but she noticed the man from earlier was still waiting. Maybe he wanted to be sure that she left. Since she knew that as a wolf he can hear her footsteps and already knows that she's stopped walking, she started walking again so he would eventually leave once he can't hear her footsteps.

She was so close to reaching human territory and it was then she stopped. She just took in the scenery before her. It looked...so abandoned. The road was empty and there was just one gas station along the road with barely anyone there. She was certain that this is not how the whole place looked. This was just a result of a fight that happened several years ago between werewolves and humans. Those humans who survived it are very very old and have been called crazy for the things they said but the wolves didn't forget how the humans betrayed their trust. Hence why they can no longer accept wolf interaction with humans.

After looking at the place for a little while again. She wondered where her ancestors lived, if they also betrayed wolves too, how did their descendants - her parents live? Was it in a small house or a large one? Did she have any siblings?

With a sigh, she turned around and started to head back to the pack and by the time she reached the path that would lead her straight to school, she took another path leading to her house. She was too upset to go back to school where she will obviously be bullied so she went home.

Giselle was asleep when she arrived so she just quietly entered her room and lay in her bed wondering if her life would be any better had she lived with humans instead. Sure she knew it wouldn't be all Rosey but she was sure it would be a lot better than the kind she lives among these wolves.

She fell asleep and only woke up about seven hours later to see that Giselle had left the house but left a note on the dining saying she will be back the next day and also wishing her a happy birthday. Elora just sighed because she knew Giselle had gone to buy some medicine for her illness. An illness that had no name but was eating her up slowly.

" Happy birthday Elora. It's gonna be another lonely and boring night for you again. Day or night dreaming about Drew is not allowed anymore, he's a jerk. So...what do you do now that you have no one to obsess over hmm?" She said to herself.

She took a bite of the small cake Giselle made her and she really wanted to feel happy but she couldn't. Just then she heard a rattling sound from the back of the house and she got scared. Her first thought was to quickly go and check if all the doors and windows in the house were shut and she shut every door except the one that led to the backyard.

A white wolf was standing outside the door but it was a pup! Its mother was wounded and was bleeding in the hind legs. Elora gasped, wondering how on Earth this wolf got here because she knew that this wasn't the shapeshifting kind of wolf she is used to. It was a normal wolf!

She quickly carried it as well as the pup inside the house and went in search of a first aid kit. She didn't know how she knew what to use and what not to use but somehow she just had knowledge of how to tend to it and after she was done, the mother wolf stopped whimpering and just lay down on the floor with her pup beside her.

That's when Elora started to think about it. In all the packs she knows of, she has never once seen a real wolf. Of course, people in her pack shift into their wolf form but she knew it was then because they were always bigger than a normal wolf. They looked unnatural and could do things a normal wolf couldn't. That's because they were werewolves and this one right now laying on the floor was just a wolf.

These wolves were only found in human territory so why has the wolf come here and who/ what attacked it? Whatever it was she hoped it would not find this mother wolf. She actually wanted to keep it but her excitement died down when she realized that Giselle would sniff it out in a millisecond.

Just because Giselle took her in was not a guarantee that she would accept anything else that isn't a werewolf like her. But since nothing this interesting has ever happened to Elora like this, she decided to take care of the mother wolf and the pup then by morning she will send it away by herself back to human territory as she doesn't trust what someone else would do if they see the wolf walking alone with its pup.

Since they were sleeping, Elora decided to watch some TV in her room. She got a TV installed or rather Giselle installed it for her because both of them were polar opposites when it came to TV shows. Elora had barely gotten into the TV show she was watching when the mother wolf and her pup started sniffing their way to her room.

At first, she thought it was adorable but knowing Giselle can smell them she panicked and got down from her bed.

"You guys stop sniffing! She'll smell you!" Elora said but they kept sniffing her until they reached her feet.

" Aww...so cute!" She finally gave in and just carried the pup but the mother growled at her.

" It's okay. I just want to put her or...oh him on the bed for a good sleep" she said when she noticed the pup was male. As she took a step back to the bed, the mother growled and followed her with a limp, so Elora just quickly placed the pup in the bed and the mother started to bark.

" Okay, you next!" Elora said as she carried the mother and placed her on the bed beside her pup. She immediately started to lick its pup.

" Inseparable I see. That's good, that's me and Giselle!" Elora said before she joined them on the bed. The pup took a small bite of the cake and quickly spat it out while Elora giggled.

After watching TV for a while, she noticed that the wolves were now asleep so she turned off the TV and then also turned off the light on the nightstand and her back was against them as she did so. She saw her shadow cast against the wall in her room and wondered where the light was coming from. It was a cool, blue light.

" Oh my God" she gasped when she saw that the light was coming from the furs of the wolves. These weren't just some wolves! These wolves were... supernatural too but she has never heard of anything like this.

Just as she was still too stunned to say a word, she suddenly heard a knock on her door and jolted in fear.

" Oh my... could it be the person who was after these wolves?" She wondered and her body started to shake. Her phone buzzed and she saw that it was a message from her mom, Giselle.

" Honey it's me! I forgot to take my keys with me when I left. Anyway, I came back early so come open the door. I have a surprise for you!" She read in the text and suddenly she felt even more afraid because she knew Giselle would find these wolves in a split second!

" Elora!" Giselle barked from outside and she panicked even more as she went to open the door.

" Hi mom," she said as Giselle entered the room with suspicious eyes.

" Hi..." She said searching the room with her eyes.

" What's that smell?" She asked and Elora panicked again.

" I had a bad stomach ache" she lied but Giselle turned to look at her. Her eyes were glowing because she was getting into full werewolf mode and Elora knew that Giselle could hear her heart beating so fast.

" Haven't I told you it's pointless lying to me?" She said in a slight growl before she started to follow the trace of the scent till she got to Elora's room.

Elora thought she would faint when Giselle opened the door.
