Violet's pov

Just as I had prayed everyday for someone to rescue me from this wretched place, Xaden appeared, helping me escape the horrors that had held me for what felt like eternity, and I will be forever grateful to him for saving him from that nightmare.

But…

I didn't ask to be reached from one nightmare only to enter another.

Our journey to the Winter pack, Xaden's pack stretched on for weeks.

It felt like an eternity, moving through endless forests, towering mountains of his bone-chilling territory. The cold was insane and the fact that he didn't flinch once made it even more insane.

He noticed me flinch and wrapped his coat over mine. “Here.”

“But aren't you…” my words froze on my tongue when he planted a kiss on my lips.

“I'm fine,” he smiled. “Besides, the cold never bothered me anyways.”

My cheeks tinted pink and I turned my gaze ahead.

Light laugh spilled out of Xaden's lips as he rode behind me.

With one hand, he pulled my body closer, making my back press against his chest.

I felt safe in his arms.

In that moment, everything felt right.

Two weeks into our journey, I learned Xaden's habits.

How he rose before dawn to sharpen his blade or how his golden eyes softened whenever he looked at me or how he loved cuddling me everytime he was near me or even his lips parted as if to say something but would close just in time before I asked.

I couldn't help but think there was something he wasn't telling me.

But I didn't ask.

Not when he gave me his coat on colder nights. Not when he healed me, mount our horse with careful hands and help me dismount without me asking.

But…

The silence between us each time he tries to say something and doesn't, grows heavier with each passing mile.

By the time we reached Xaden's castle, a towering castle in the mountains, I couldn't hold back any longer.

“Tell me the truth.” I blurted out without thinking but it was better than keeping silent about it.

Xaden stiffened. His back was to me but I could feel his hesitation.

His hand curled to a fist. “Violet…”

“Xaden, look at me.” I said softly.

He turned around slowly and for a long moment, he didn't say anything.

“Why did you choose me?” I asked.

His shoulders tensed.

“Xaden,” I took a step closer. “Mira is the Alpha's King's daughter. She… she was your mate but you… rejected her for me. Why?”

He took my hands, brushing his fingers over mine. “I had to.”

“What?” I was confused.

“I rejected Mira because you were mine.”

Because I was his first?

Did I hear right?

I swallowed, almost pulling away but he wouldn't let me. “What do you mean?”

“Because,” he closed the distance between us. “You were mine from the very start.”

Okay. This wasn't helping at all.

He looked down at my hands and brushed his fingers against a faint scar on my wrist. “Do you remember how you got this?”

I blinked, looking down. The scar was barely noticeable. But I don't remember getting that scar.

“I don't remember,” I breathed out. “I mean, I've had lots of scars in the past. Maybe, it was one I got from being flogged.”

“Violet…” he called my name.

I looked up to meet his gaze. “Yes?”

“Please, don't talk like that,” he said. “Promise me you wouldn't talk about that ever again.”

The look in his eyes said it – piercing golden orbs that glistened …. Glistened. Was he crying?

I gasped. “Xaden.”

He drew me against him, burying my face in his chest. “You didn't get that scar from your pack.”

He kept tracing the faint scar softly as if willing me to remember and it worked.

A memory stirred within me but it only came in fractions – a whispered vow, a heavy applause from a gathered assembly, the sharp pain of a blade.

My breath hitched and I felt Xaden's hand in my hair.

“It's okay.” He said, stroking my hair softly.

A shuddering breath left my lips.

“It’s alright, love.” He buried his face in my neck.

“What happened?” I asked.

“Are you sure you want to know?” He asked.

I should've just said no and let him keep the secret to himself but I couldn't. Curiosity wouldn't let me.

“Yes.” I whispered.

Xaden planted a soft kiss on my forehead. “When you and I were children, our parents arranged a bloodpact between us.”

The world tilted but Xaden wouldn't let me fall.

He held me tightly against him as if knowing this would happen. “You were promised to me, long before the Moon Goddess ever chose a mate for me.”

“But I… I would've remembered. I ..”

“You were taken away from me, Violet.” He pulled away to look at me.

“Stolen?” My brows furrowed.

“Yes,” Xaden said as he smoothened the lines on my forehead. “You were stolen from the pack when you were just a child. They… erase your memories. They made you forget.”

My pulse roared in my veins.

Stolen? Taken? They? Who took me? And why?

Everything was too much for me to handle.

I nearly had a panic attack. My life… my whole life has been a lie!

Xaden lifted my gaze to meet his. “For years, I searched all over for you, Violet. And when I saw you again, I knew. I knew you were still mine.”

I wanted to deny it. I wanted to tell him he was wrong. But the way he looked at me – the desperation and longing in his eyes – told me everything.

Somewhere deep inside of me, something stirred.

What was it?

I was searching for it but couldn't find it.

“Take it easy, love.” Xaden's voice cut through my thoughts. “We'll take it at your own pace.”

I swallowed hard. “But… what if I don't remember?”

My memory.

Our bond.

The truth.

I could ignore it all but I had to face it.

“What if I don't… don't remember?” I repeated in a whisper.

Xaden leaned closer and brushed his lips against mine. “Then I'll remind you.”

Violet’s POV I had never felt fear like this. Every arrow that flew past us was a scream in the chest. The a storm of enemies raining death from all directions, and somehow, I had to keep Xavier alive through it all. At first, I hadn’t noticed the subtle limp in his stride. He moved as though nothing was wrong, darting, shielding me, keeping us low to the ground. But then, the smell of iron hit my nose, sharp and metallic, and my heart nearly stopped. Xavier stumbled, almost falling over his own feet, and I realized that he was bleeding. An arrow had found its arm. “No…” I whispered, panic clawing at my throat. “No, no, no…This can't be happening. Xavier, are you okay?” I lunged forward as he tried to wave me off, his eyes dark with stubborn determination. “Violet, leave me. Go!” he gasped, his voice hoarse. “I’ll be fine…just get yourself out of here!” “Don’t you dare!” I snapped, voice trembling but fierce. I pressed my hand against the side of his ribs where the arrow had pi

  • The Alpha’s chosen one    CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWO

Mira’s POV I don’t know how much time had passed before Blake finally stopped. My body felt limp beneath him, every nerve raw and aching from the brutal rhythm he had forced on me. My chest rose and fell in shallow, broken breaths as he rolled off me without so much as a glance. I thought, foolishly, that it was over, that whatever madness had possessed him tonight had been spent. But before I could even catch my breath, I heard the click of a key turning in the door. I sat up instantly, clutching the torn edge of my dress to my chest. “Blake? What are you doing?” My voice was hoarse. He didn’t look at me. He was fastening his trousers with deliberate calm, as though nothing monstrous had just happened between us. His eyes were cold and detached, when he finally spoke. “You said you needed a child, Mira,” he said flatly. “Urgently. That was your own demand, wasn’t it? If my seed doesn’t take… then others will do. I’ll make sure of it.” My heart stuttered painfully. “What do yo

  • The Alpha’s chosen one    CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND ONE

Xaden’s POV I paced around the room. I still couldn’t believe what I had just witnessed. The image replayed repeatedly in my head. I could still remember seeing Violet broken and bleeding in the dungeon. My fists clenched at my sides, and I ground my teeth until my jaw ached. She was supposed to be safe there. That dungeon was meant to keep her from the dangers outside, not expose her to even greater ones. But what I had just seen shattered every thought of safety. I stared at the guard who had dared strike her. His hand still trembled around the whip, as though even he could not believe what he had done. My fury surged, and before I could think, I moved. The guard’s body lifted from the ground, his eyes bulging in shock. His mouth opened in a strangled cry, but it was too late. With a flick of my power, I flung him across the chamber. He slammed into the stone wall with a sickening crack, his neck snapping instantly. He slid down the wall, lifeless. The silence that followed

  • The Alpha’s chosen one    CHAPTER HUNDRED

Violet’s POV I slowly opened my eyes only to discover I was no longer in the dungeon. The heavy air around me smelled of damp stone, metal, and old blood. It took a moment before I realized that the faint shapes hovering above me weren’t part of some cruel hallucination. They were not the guards, they looked like familiar faces. Xavier. Danya. They stood so close to me, eyes sharp, whispers pressed into the darkness. For a moment I thought I must still be dreaming, that this was some desperate vision my mind conjured to give me comfort in the cold. But then Xavier’s hand gripped my shoulder with a steady force, and Danya’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears. It was real. “You’re awake,” Xavier said in a low voice, relief bleeding into his usual commanding tone. I swallowed, my throat raw. “Where…?” “You fainted,” Danya said gently, brushing a strand of hair away from my damp face. “We were worried you wouldn’t wake soon, but…” She hesitated, glancing at Xavier as though unsure

  • The Alpha’s chosen one    CHAPTER NINETY NINE

Violet’s POVI felt it all over my body.Pain.It clawed at my body, gnawing at my muscles, my ribs, my very bones. Each stroke of the whip left me raw, trembling, and aching in ways I didn’t think a human body could endure. The guard’s arm moved with relentless precision, as though he were a machine programmed to inflict pain, yet even his muscles began to tire. Hours had passed, the torchlight flickered against the stone walls of the chamber, casting long shadows that danced like demons on the floor. The flogging was interrupted by a stranger who walked in. I made use of the opportunity to give myself a break.“ Isn't this Lady Violet?” The man sounded shocked. “And you're flogging her. Who's orders?” He asked“ That's not your concern or mine. I was given an order to flog her until she makes a sound” he answered“ Leave,” he added and continued to beat me.I refused. Not a single cry, not a whimper, not even a gasp. I held the mask of stoicism tighter than any armor, though my ba

Mira’s POV“ Yes, it's me, Blake. Now…why do you want to see me?”The sight of his grin made my blood boil. Blake stood there, looking at me as though everything that had just happened was a joke, my humiliation, my tears, the whispers that tore at my dignity, and the slap of that senior maid’s hand across my head. And here he was, smirking, enjoying it all.I couldn’t hold back. The words spilled out of me like venom.“You sent her, didn’t you?” I snapped, my voice shaking with fury. “You sent that girl to torment me, parading around with my face, rubbing it in that I don’t matter here! This was your doing!”Blake didn’t answer. He didn’t even blink. Instead, in one swift motion, he stepped closer and covered my mouth with his hands like he knew I was going to shout. My protest turned muffled, my words lost against the heat of his palm. His other arm circled around me before I could push him away. Then the world shifted. The hallway vanished. The next breath I took was filled with t
