Xaden's pov

"Khaun, everything is ready for you." Xavier said as he entered the study.

I sat deep in thought, swirling my drink in the glass.

"Khaun?" I heard him call.

Placing the glass on my desk, I folded my arms on the desk and leaned forward.

"Something feels strange." I said.

"What?" He asked.

"Not what, who." I answered.

"Lady Violet?" He asked.

I eyed him quizzically. Wondering if he was thinking the same thing I was.

"Isn't she?" I questioned.

"Well, I know she seemed strange, but nothing out of the ordinary. Danya would have mentioned." He said.

Sighing, I reclined in the chair and crossed my legs. " I should have killed him the last time." I said finally.

"I just got back from the stable, and the stableboy vouches that Dwayne was here to check the horses."

"He was the farrier he sent for?" I asked, completely astonished.

"Aye." Xavier answered.

I stood up abruptly as I made my way towards the door. "Bring him out of the dungeon and have him transferred to the cleaver's room

Xaden’s POV“ We have to go before someone sees us,” the fake Lyra said. The handle of the door gave a soft twist, and I barely had enough time to slip behind the large stone column by the hallway. My heart thudded against my ribs, not in fear, I wasn’t afraid of being caught. But I couldn’t afford to be seen just yet. Mira’s sharp laugh echoed as she stepped out into the hallway.I didn’t move until their voices had completely faded down the corridor. Only then did I step into the room they had exited, Violet’s chambers.Everything was just as I remembered, yet somehow different. Colder. Emptier. My eyes fell on the dress table immediately, the surface bare except for a single comb and a pair of gloves. The bracelet wasn’t there.A spike of frustration shot through me.I walked over quickly, scanning every inch of the polished wood surface before bending down to look underneath. I slid my hand between the narrow space between the table and the bed frame. Nothing. I stood, checking i

Xaden’s POVThe silence screamed louder than any battle cry as I stormed out of the courtyard. My fists clenched at my sides, my chest aching with the weight of what I’d just done. “You can't do this to her,” Violet screamed.“ It's okay child. I'll be okay, I promise,” Sera assured her.The look in Luna Sera’s eyes kept replaying in my head, wide, glossy with tears, and filled with a pain that mirrored my own. She hadn’t said a word. She didn’t have to.I hurt her.And that was the worst part.I’d watched the tear trail down her cheek like a blade slicing through everything we once held sacred. The betrayal in her gaze wasn’t just directed at Violet, it was directed at me too. I’d made a choice. One I thought was right. One I prayed would protect her. But damn it all to hell, it felt like I just carved my own heart out.She looked so frail. So… unlike herself. That fierce, commanding light in her had dimmed. And I was the one who snuffed it out.I gritted my teeth as I moved throug

Violet’s POVI stood frozen in the middle of the room. My heart thudded heavily against my chest, not because of the weight of my guilt, but because I knew I didn't do what they claimed. And yet, the way Xaden looked at me just moments ago, as if I were the worst kind of traitor, broke something deep inside me.“Xaden, please. Don't do this, I didn't do anything.” I tried to speak again. But he was gone before I could even say anything. Already storming away with fury burning in his steps, his shoulders rigid, jaw clenched. My lips parted uselessly as my body took a step forward instinctively, but it was too late. The man I loved had turned his back on me.I faced Mira, her lips curled up in a smile that I knew wasn't genuine. I was about to lash out at her but I got interruptedI turned slowly, just in time to see Xavier, the ever-stoic, unreadable Beta. He stepped into the room with his calm and detached look on his face. Not a flicker of emotion passed through his expression. No

Xaden's povI had to protect Violet at all costs. I could tell that she wasn't lying. Her mind tells me everything I needed to know.Conniving idiots! They were looking for every means possible to see that I stayed apart from Violet. To protect her, I needed to play along to shield her.Bits by bits the pieces were coming together. Mira's presence here couldn't have been by her mere efforts. Since her parents and her pack were one of the weakest, it was simply not possible for her to be this unfearful. She had the backings of someone who feared me less.Blake.The silent battle between myself and Blake had been on since I was a lad. Although he had helped me once, but I should have known how manipulative he was. That girl, Lyra, had died that day. I was so certain of it because I still knew her smell. One of my abilities which no one knew I had saved Luna Sera is the power to attach people's smell. Just as I could tell people apart by seeing them or hearing their voices, I could smell

Violet's povAfter we've moved all my things back into my bedroom, I was able to organize them back in my armoire with Danya's help. I could sense the confusion and questions in her eyes."Ask." I chirped.Caught off guard, she said. "Pardon me, my lady. I didn't say anything.""You needn't have to, Danya. Your face spoke up for you." I answered.Sighing heavily, she said. "I'm just worried, that's all. Worried about what Mira and his lordship will do to you once they realize you've left the maid's quarters."I smiled at her concern. "Don't bother yourself with all that, Danya. Just trust me." She smiled and was silent for a while before she muttered. "What are you expected to wear now?"Mira had thrown my dresses as soon as I had been banished to the servant quarters. I barely have any fashionable or appropriate dress to wear."I'll visit madam Fiona tomorrow." I said.Again, Danya stared at me like I had lost my mind. "But..you...you and madam Fiona aren't on good terms.""We will
