The Bargain
****
“In a few days, she’ll be out of our lives for good.”
The plate almost slipped from my hand. I kept scrubbing even though the water had gone lukewarm.
I knew that voice—my stepmother, Lycril.
She was talking to someone in the sitting room, her tone low and pleased, the kind of tone she used only when something evil was on her mind. A cold shiver ran through my body.
Every day I felt weaker.
The bruises stayed. New ones came.
My skin was a living map of their anger.
When my mother was alive, love filled this house.
After she died, I became nothing but a servant—working morning till night just to survive under a roof that never felt like home.
The voices in the sitting room pulled me closer. I dried my hands on my apron and tiptoed toward the doorway, fear and curiosity twisting inside me.
“Do you think he’ll take her right away?” Lycril asked, sounding far too excited. “It’s time we made something out of her.”
Made something out of me?
My heartbeat kicked hard.
Then my father’s voice—deep, rough, tired.
“Once he sees her, it’s his decision. After that, the debts are cleared.”
Debts?
Who was he talking about?
What debt could they possibly clear with me?
A sick feeling grew in my stomach. I pressed myself against the wall, praying they wouldn’t see me.
But someone else did.
“Well, well… sneaking again?”
Enzo’s voice slid behind me like a cold blade.
I turned, and he was already too close. His eyes crawled over me with that disturbing, hungry look he always had.
“Enzo, please—” I tried to move back, but he stepped forward, blocking the narrow passage.
His hand shot out. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me toward him until his breath hit my cheek.
“Look at you,” he whispered, brushing his fingers along my jaw. Slow. Greedy. “Maybe I should take you for myself.”
My stomach twisted. My skin crawled. I wanted to vanish, melt, anything to escape the way he looked at me.
Something inside me cracked.
I jerked my wrist out of his grip and slapped him. Hard.
The sound echoed through the room. My palm burned, but for a second, I felt free.
His shock didn’t last. His face darkened.
“Little wolf with no claws,” he hissed, eyes burning with the promise of revenge.
Lycril stormed out. “You again!” she shouted. “Didn’t I tell you to stay in the kitchen?”
“I wasn’t—”
Her hand hit my face before I finished.
Heat rushed up my cheek.
“She was eavesdropping,” Enzo said quickly. “Teach her what happens to snoops.”
Lycril grabbed a fistful of my hair and dragged me down. Pain exploded across my scalp as she pushed me to the floor.
“It’s time you learned your place,” she spat, reaching for her horsewhip.
Amanda appeared behind Enzo, smiling like she had been waiting for this moment all day.
I struggled, but they held me down—Enzo pinning my arms, Amanda trapping my legs.
I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t move.
The first strike landed across my back.
White-hot pain shot through me.
I bit my lip to stop the scream rising in my throat as tears blurred my vision.
Another strike.
And another.
My body shook from the pain.
Then my father’s voice came from the doorway.
“Enough.”
I lifted my head, expecting relief.
But his eyes were empty.
Cold.
Like he was looking at a broken chair, not his daughter.
“Lay her flat,” he said. “We don’t want her too bruised. She’s leaving for the NorthRidge Pack in a few hours.”
I froze.
My breath caught.
So they were serious?
NorthRidge?
Everyone knew the stories.
The land ruled by Alpha Xavier—cold, fierce, merciless.
Some said he tore his enemies apart with his bare hands.
Some said he barely spared his servants.
And they were sending me there?
My father knelt beside me, gripped my chin, and forced my face up. His fingers dug painfully into my skin.
“You’re going to serve him, Freya,” he said. “Finally, you’ll be worth something.”
My heart cracked.
The pain in my back was nothing compared to the ache inside my chest.
“Please, Father,” I whispered. “I’ll work harder. I’ll do anything. Just… don’t send me there.”
Lycril let out a sharp laugh.
“You leave tonight. The Alpha paid well, and after tonight, we’re free of you.”
Free of me.
Like I was trash.
My father pushed my face away, and I hit the tiles hard.
They turned and walked off, already speaking about me as if I no longer existed.
Their voices faded down the hall.
Just before they disappeared, Lycril’s voice drifted back:
“Let’s hope she lasts the night. They say he never goes easy on new servants.”
Silence swallowed the hallway.
I lay on the floor, cheek pressed against the cold tiles, my body trembling.
For a moment, I wanted to let go—to sink into the darkness and stay there.
But deep inside, something small refused to die.
A spark.
A whisper.
Survive.
My fingers curled against the floor. My breath trembled, but it was still there. I wiped my tears with the back of my hand and pushed myself up, even though every muscle screamed.
If they were sending me to the NorthRidge Pack
Then I have to live long enough to take my life back.
And one day…
I would make them pay.
First Lesson*****Morning came fast.Freya did not stay inside. She stood alone near the training grounds holding her mothers sword. The sword rested quietly inside her hand while her mind continued replaying Alpha Kaels words from last night.I will help you unlock your powers. She lowered her eyes toward the golden blade.Power.Everybody kept talking about power. The witch. Her wolf. The strangers.Blood Crown.Even Alpha Kael. But nobody truly understood how tired she was.People only saw strength when it finally appeared.Nobody saw what happened before it.The fear. The pain. The loneliness.NorthRidge taught her many things. How to survive. How to stay silent. How to endure pain. How to hide tears. But it never taught her how to become strong. That part she would have to learn herself.A soft sound pulled her away from her thoughts.Footsteps.Steady.Calm.Alpha Kael.He stopped beside her.His eyes moved toward the sword. You came early.Freya adjusted her grip slightly.I
Blood Does Not Lie*****My eyes slowly opened. For a few seconds I could not understand where I was.Everything felt strange.Quiet.Too quiet. Then memory returned. The strange men.The fight. The words.Blood Crown.I quickly pushed myself up.Pain rushed through my body immediately.A sharp ache spread through my shoulders. My chest tightened.Easy.The voice made me freeze.Alpha Kael.He sat near the chair beside me.Not moving. Not speaking.Just watching. The morning light touched part of his face. His expression looked calm. But something inside his eyes felt heavy.Like he had been sitting there for a long time. You are awake.I slowly nodded. Are you okayYes.My voice came out softer than I wanted. He studied me quietly.Freya.I looked up.Can you tell me who you areSilence.Who are youWhy are people hunting you everywhereMy fingers slowly tightened around the blanket.Alpha first I am sorry.Sorry for what exactly …This is all my fault.No.His voice turned firm.Do
The Night Blood Spoke*****The pack slowly settled after Alpha Kael accepted me.Slowly.But not peacefully.Peace never came.I felt it the moment I stepped inside. The looks. The whispers. The silent questions nobody wanted to ask directly.Who was I?Why would Alpha Kael allow a stranger to stay? Why would someone from NorthRidge suddenly appear here alone?Nobody said it to my face. They did not need to.I already understood how packs worked.People smiled at you.Helped you.Pretended everything was fine. Then the moment you walked away, the whispers started.A servant girl led me toward one of the smaller buildings near the west side of the pack house. You can stay here for now she said quietly.Thank you.She smiled politely before leaving. The door closed.Silence followed.Real silence. Not the heavy silence from NorthRidge. Not the silence that came with punishment. This one felt different.Strange.Almost uncomfortable. For the first time since leaving NorthRidge behind,
A New Pack*****The hunters did not leave me in the forest. After speaking among themselves for a while, they decided to take me with them.I did not trust them completely, but I followed quietly because I had no choice. The forest was getting darker again, and I was too tired to keep wandering without direction.None of them spoke much during the journey.Only the sound of horses and footsteps filled the road as we moved farther away from NorthRidge. My wolf stayed alert inside me the entire time.“Be careful,” she whispered.I know. One of the hunters kept glancing at me from time to time, especially at the sword behind my back, but he never asked questions.Hours later, large gates appeared ahead of us.A different pack. The walls were higher than NorthRidge. Guards stood near the entrance holding weapons while wolves moved around carefully. The hunters stopped at the gate immediately.“We found her near the southern forest,” one of them explained to the guards. The guards looked
GoneThe night was still cold when I left NorthRidge behind.I did not stop walking.Even when my legs started hurting.Even when the forest became darker.I just kept going. The truth was I had no idea where I was heading to.No plan.No destination.Nothing.But staying back there would only destroy me slowly. So I kept moving forward.Branches brushed against my arms as I walked deeper into the forest. The small bag rested against my shoulder while my mothers sword stayed secured behind me.My wolf stayed quiet for a long time before she finally spoke. You are really leaving.A small smile touched my lips. They already wanted me gone. But you still protected them.I stayed silent after that.Because she was right. After everything NorthRidge did to me I still risked myself to save them.Maybe that was my weakness.Or maybe that was simply who I was.The forest became quieter the farther I walked. No voices. No whispers following me around. For the first time in a long while nobody
The Beginning of FearNobody said a word after the witch finished talking. The silence inside the room became uncomfortable. Even the elders who had been questioning me earlier suddenly had nothing to say anymore.Lucia was the first to break the silence. So this is her fault.I slowly looked at her.She stepped forward immediately like she had been waiting for the chance.“The attacks started after she came here,Lucia continued. Now the witch herself is saying more danger is coming because of her bloodline.Several elders exchanged uneasy looks.I could already see where this was going.Fear.Then blame. The same thing all over again. One elder nodded slowly.“She may be right.”Xavier frowned instantly. You heard the witch, he said Freya didn’t cause this. But she brought it here. Another elder replied. The room started getting tense again.Lucia noticed it immediately and pushed harder. We should send her away before those creatures return. My chest tightened a little, but I stayed
The AwakeningI didn’t know that opening that box would change everything. If I had known, maybe I would have left it where it was.Hidden. Forgotten. But I didn’t know. The whole pack was restless that morning. You could feel it without anyone saying it.The Alpha’s brother was coming back.Even
The Game Begins*****Lucia did not sleep that night. After leaving the clinic, she went straight to her room and shut the door. For a long moment she stood there, silent.Pregnant.The word kept echoing in her head.Freya was carrying Logan’s child.Lucia slowly sat down.At first she was angry. H
*****Logan walked away like nothing happenedBut something had.And he knew it.I closed the door slowly after he disappeared down the corridor. My hand stayed on the handle longer than necessary. He didn’t look at me like that before. That wasn’t anger. That wasn’t irritation. And Logan doesn’t fe
The bound he refused *****Something He Didn’t WantSomething shifted. Not in the room.In him.I felt it before I understood it.He pulled away suddenly. Not gently. Not violently.Just… like he touched fire.I opened my eyes.He was staring at me.Not the way he looked at me before. Not cold. No
