Chapter 13

Lisa

The moment Klaus left the room, I immediately jumped down from the bed and hurried to the clinic once more. I just couldn't sit aside while Mark was busy fighting for his life. With the help of some guards, I was able to find my way to the clinic. And the moment I arrived, I raced straight to Mark's room without asking for the nurse's permission.

Mark was awake when I arrived, and unlike before, he wasn't coated in bandages and syringes. His healing speed had regained its output, and most of the injuries were already gone. I had a bright smile on my face as I approached his bed, but the same couldn't be said for Mark. At first he pretended like he hadn't seen me enter the room, and when he could no longer ignore my presence, he turned his face away from me.

"Don't do that Mark, we both know I didn't have a choice." I pleaded with him, but he wasn't exactly listening.

"What are you doing here then, if you didn't have a choice? You shut me down for him! You've clearly made your choice. And why? Because he's rich and I'm not? Because he's prettier than me?" Mark accused me with hurt in his voice. He wasn't aware of anything that had happened between me and Klaus so I really couldn't blame him, all I could do was explain things to him and hopefully, he would understand my situation.

I moved closer, and when he was within arm's reach, I rested my hand on his lap. "He would have killed you if I didn't play along to his games. You think I'd be doing all of this for nothing? If I had chosen him, then I wouldn't be here crying for you. I'd rather be his slave than live a life without you."

Slowly Mark turned towards me, there were tears in his eyes as he stared at me. But when he inched closer to kiss me, I immediately pulled away from his approach. He raised a brow in confusion before attempting to kiss me a second time. And just like the first time, I retreated from his approach.

"What is it Lisa? Do I not look good enough for you to kiss, or is it because you're now used to the lifestyle of the wealthy?" Mark threw at me in a furious tone. He was curious to hear my reply, and at the same time infuriated by my response to his approaches.

"We can't—"

"Why?! I'm the man you love! Why can't we share a kiss?" He thundered ignorantly. I would have shushed him if the rooms weren't sound proof, but since they were, all I could was sit still and take all the yelling Mark could give. We were in a public space, and it would cause major issues if the Alpha's newly wedded bride was caught kissing a traitor. Anybody could see us, and I honestly didn't want that to happen. These people didn't respect me yet, and wouldn't keep their mouths shut even if I threatened them. I was doing it to protect him, but Mark wasn't ready to listen.

If we were caught, Klaus wouldn't kill me because I was of importance to him. However, with Mark, it was a completely different story. He was very disposable, and I was certain Klaus wouldn't bat a brow while passing his execution order.

"Stop screaming and just listen to me!" I finally managed to scream out, and only then did Mark finally tame his temper. "We can't be intimate within these walls, we'll be killed if caught. I'm his wife now and nobody will tolerate a cheating wife—"

"Wait, you're his wife?" Mark asked with a mouth agape. He probably wasn't aware of the concluded mating ceremony, and this news had taken him off guard. I couldn't blame him, Klaus wasted no time in making me his bride, and I had no say in the matter.

"Yes, I am." I answered in a low tone before lowering my head in disappointment. My tears began to fall, and all Mark could do was stare at me in horror and pain.

"Has he...have you..?"

"No, he hasn't. I wouldn't let him touch me, I swear it." I replied. And although that answer didn't completely satisfy Mark, it was enough to get him fired up with energy once more.

"Then come with me right now, together we'll run away to another pack and start over. You don't have to be stuck here with him." Mark suggested as he hastily got down from the bed.

"Now?" I inquired out of shock and genuine curiosity. Surely he wasn't being serious, was what I thought until I saw the look in his eyes.

"You can pretend to be my sister. You're the queen now, nobody would stop you if you decided to take me away." Mark strategized, but I wasn't exactly onboard with the plan. Not only was it risky for the both of us, it was a dumb one as well. I had already made a promise to be loyal to Klaus in exchange for Mark's life, throwing that promise away was equivalent to throwing Mark's life away as well. The two of us stood no chance of escaping Klaus, especially not when I wasn't trusted.

"We can't do that, I can't run away from here." I argued, and once again Mark flashed me a look of doubt and distrust.

"Are you sure you're still the Lisa I used to know?" He inquired with doubt written all over his face. With his hand outstretched towards me, he continued. "If you're still Lisa Thornberry then take my hand, and let's run away from here."

I stared at his demanding hands, but after a minute of contemplating, backed away from the thought.

"We can't do it, I'm sorry." I replied as my tears continued to flow endlessly. I wanted to run away with him more than anything, but I knew that we wouldn't win. If we left, Klaus would definitely come after us, and things wouldn't be good after that. I wished to spend the rest of my life with him, but I didn't want to spend that life running and living in fear, it wasn't the future I had envisioned for the both of us.

"Please try to understand that—"

"There's nothing to understand Lisa, you've made your choice, and I can't judge you for that." Mark said conclusively before retracting his hand. "Please leave, I'd love to be left alone."

"Mark, I'm sorry—"

"Leave!" He yelled with his finger pointed towards the exit. Wiping my flowing tears away, I did my best to gather my composure before running out of the room with a broken heart. Mark was being far too desperate, and that had caused him to be blind to reason. He wasn't thinking straight, and I couldn't blame him for that.

Every eye was on me as I strolled away from the clinic, and it made me severely uncomfortable, but at the same time it was all my fault. I had raced in like a frenzied animal, and now I was leaving with tears streaming down from my eyes, it wasn't a familiar sight in these parts of the kingdom.

I managed to get my tears under control before I reached the room, but the bag under my eyes remained. I intended to rush into the bathroom and wash my face, but the moment I pushed open the door to my room, I connected eyes with Klaus who immediately noticed that I had been crying.

Defensively, he shot up from where he sat and immediately closed the distance between us. Encompassing me in his warmth, he wiped away the blurs of mascara that stained my face before questioning me.

"Who hurt you?"

Chapter 15Icarus I had expected her a lot sooner, but even this timing was perfect for me. Although hurt and full of rage, I could still tell that Maeve was being extremely cautious of me. Klaus had probably warned her to stay away from me, but she had grown too desperate, and had clearly ignored those words of advice. "It's been far too long Maeve, what brings you here?" I inquired while I gestured for her to settle beside me. She obeyed, but didn't exactly sit on the designated spot I had pointed out for her. I knew why she was here, and I knew exactly what she wanted. I had walked into her crying on the day of Klaus and Lisa's mating night, and I had taken my time to exploit her at that moment. She had pushed me away, but that was after I had planted seeds of doubt in her head, and dropped down my address for her. Maeve was in love with Klaus, that much was evident, and she was an obsessive lover. Klaus on the other hand had only agreed to be with Maeve just to foster a good re

"You take me away from the man I love, keep me locked up in this place, and then you ask me who hurt me?"Klaus shrunk back in shock, he hadn't expected my answer, and definitely didn't expect my outburst. He had been genuinely worried for my safety, but for Mark's sake this was the only option I could come up with. Klaus couldn't know that I had gone to visit Mark, he wouldn't take that information very well. And he couldn't know that Mark was the reason I was crying, that would only make things worse. "Push me away all you want, you still can't change the fact that you're my mate, and I'm yours!" Klaus shot back at me. "When are you going to accept reality and move on?!" He yelled before turning away from my teary eyes. At first I assumed it was a bloodstain, but after close observation, I finally managed to confirm that it was indeed lipstick. It was stuck just behind the collar of his shirt and I was cer

Chapter 12Klaus After my discussion with Lisa had ended, I took her back to the room, and after showing her the most affection I could, left the room for the study. Since her arrival I had been working from home, and it hadn't exactly been easy. Even though I didn't exactly care for her, I didn't want to leave my newly wedded bride for work just days after our wedding. She wasn't fully accustomed to the place, and with Maeve roaming the castle, I just couldn't leave her alone just yet. "Any recent developments?" I inquired from Damon as I settled behind one of the tables. Damon had already gotten to work the moment I dismissed him from the dining table. At the moment he was the one running everything about the company, and he was doing a terrific job. "Not much, except for the fact that we might lose a valuable investment if you don't return to work soon. • The Alpha’s secret baby   Chapter 11

Chapter 11Lisa I sat beside Klaus, and the only reason why I hadn't been scolded and kicked out was merely because Klaus was seated by my side. To these men, my status as the Alpha's bride meant nothing to them. All they could see when they looked at me was an omega who wasn't worth anything, and that was evident in their eyes. To them I was nothing more than one of the hungry ladies that roamed the streets, I had only gotten lucky, and luck didn't matter to them one bit. All five of the elders before me had smiles on their faces, but their happiness had nothing to do with me. They were merely happy that Klaus had found his mate, and that they wouldn't have to worry about getting disbanded and losing their worth to Icarus. "We've gotten the mating ceremony done, is she with child yet?" One of the elders asked, his greedy eyes wide with expectations. "Not yet, we've decided to take things slow for now. Lisa is not yet accustomed to this type of life yet." Klaus answered before rea

  • The Alpha’s secret baby   Chapter 10

Chapter 10KlausI stared at her in anticipation for a reply. It was a difficult thing to ask of her, but it was necessary for my plan to work out. It would be impossible for her to love me if she remained romantically attached to someone else. I wanted to be the main focus of her love life, and for that to work, it was necessary that the idea of Mark becoming her lover in the distant future was completely vanquished."Do you promise that Lisa? You can't love him, nor can you accept his love. We're married now, we should focus on each other." I urged, and only then did she manage to speak. "What about Maeve? Will you continue to love her?" Her voice was a whisper, yet it was heavy with emotions. I hadn't expected her to throw that question at me, yet I was happy she did. I might be playing a game with her at the moment, but it wouldn't be fun if she wasn't playing along. I started my reply with a simple shake of the head. "Now that we're together, Maeve is no longer my lover." I cla

  • The Alpha’s secret baby   Chapter 9

Chapter 9LisaWithout care for the people in the room, I rushed towards Mark's unconscious body and lifted him into my arms. Tears gathered around my eyes as I inspected his wounded body. He was still alive, but wasn't doing very good. His body was already cold to the touch, and death would become inevitable if he didn't get medical attention soon. "What did you do? What did you do to him?!" I questioned roughly as my tears began to drop. "The guards found him trying to sneak into the castle. And when he was caught he had the audacity to fight back and soil the name of the Alpha. Normally I would have beheaded him by now, but since he's a friend of yours, it wouldn't be fair to execute him without letting you say your goodbyes." Klaus answered coldly, his voice empty and hollow as he spoke. It was more than clear that he meant every word he said, and he was ready to kill Mark the very moment I let go of him. "Please don't hurt him, he's the only one I have left." I pleaded, and on

Chapter 8Lisa I woke up feeling cozier than usual. A familiar warmth wrapped around my body, and all I could do was let myself drown in its comfort. However, just as I was about to close my eyes a second time, I suddenly became aware of a strong arm draped protectively around me. Turning cautiously, I found herself face to face with Klaus. He was seraphic as always, even in his sleep. I took a minute to admire every arc of his face, before finally returning to reality. Frantically, I raced out of bed, and only then did Klaus's eyes open lazily. "What did you do to me?!" I yelled out as soon as he sat upright on the bed. With a look of shock, I inspected myself thoroughly, and after two minutes of silence and skepticism, I finally came to conclude that he hadn't touched me. "What were you thinking? That I took advantage of you in your sleep?" Klaus asked with an arched brow, a look of disgust etched on every corner of his handsome face. It was wrong for me to jump to conclusions t

  • The Alpha’s secret baby   Chapter 7

Chapter 7KlausLisa pushed back against me anytime I attempted to get closer. I could smell her fear, yet her determination to keep me away prevailed over her fear of me. She wasn't as weak as I had made her out to be, and a part of me was proud of her. I had watched her confrontation with Maeve from the window and had sent Rudolph to fetch her. I expected her to sit still and take Maeve's bullying, but she had actually fought back, and for that brief moment I felt proud of my mate for the first time. "I won't let you do what you want with me! Even if you go on with this, I'll keep killing your babies until the day I die!" She yelled out in a shaky tone, and only then did I pull away from the unrequited embrace. I glared at her with rage in my eyes. Did she just threaten to kill my children? Maybe I had heard wrongly, surely she hadn't developed the guts to threaten the Alpha. "What did you just say?" I questioned in a calm, yet serious tone. I wanted to make sure I had heard her
