When I woke up, I was back in my dorm room.

I groaned, my body aching in places I didn't even know could ache. It felt more like I've gotten injured more than I've learned anything since I came to this school.

My head pounded, my ribs throbbed, and there was a nasty bruise on my hip from where I must have hit the rail before I hit the ocean.

Ava hummed in my head, clearly awake before me.

"You're alive. Congratulations."

"You sound disappointed."

"I was starting to enjoy the idea of peace and quiet."

I rolled my eyes and slowly sat up. Someone had changed me into fresh clothes. My crutches were propped by the bed, and on my desk was a small tray of soup and bread.

I wasn't sure who had brought me back or who had taken care of me, but I was grateful.

The door creaked open, and Basil poked his head in.

"Oh thank God. You're up. I thought you died or something."

"Nice to see you too," I muttered, waving weakly.
