Zane
“Guys, be serious for a minute. We need to get this place in tip top shape before Alpha Lauren’s prisoner arrives.”
“Whatever you say Luna Zane.” Chuckled one of the pack warriors helping get the old prison back in order.
I rolled my eyes and shooed him away, getting back to work myself. I had long been used to the jokes that I was Lucas’s Luna. Being his Beta meant I took on quite a bit of the Luna work until he found one. I had hoped that he would name Maggie, but when his actual mate turned up still alive and kicking, that threw a wrench in things. I didn’t care which woman he chose, they both brought something to the table, I just wished he would hurry up and chose. I had my own duties to focus on.

Rory The pack hospital was oddly busy. There hadn’t been another large influx of refugees, but patient visits were almost back-to-back. I knew some of my frustration was wanting to return to my mate. The night before had been incredible. My hand brushed over my new mark as the memory of Victoria, and I entwined came flooding back. “Earth to Doctor Stevens.” One of the nurses laughed, snapping her fingers in front of my face. “You might want to stop daydreaming about whatever you’re daydreaming about, you’re getting a little flushed, if you know what I mean.” “Sorry.” I laughed. “I’ll try. Do you know where the Andrews file is? I actually popped out to grab it, it wasn’t in the cub
Lucas I rolled over to find my mate had gone. Her side of the bed was cool, though her scent still lingered. A glance at the clock on the nightstand told me she must have left before dawn for training without waking me. I pulled myself from the bed, the sounds of children racing through the halls greeting me as I stretched out my stiff muscles. I chuckled to myself as I heard Abigail scold the girls about waking me, before pulling on a t-shirt to make my way out of my room. I had slept shirtless, with just my plaid pajama bottoms and I wasn’t sure Selene’s brother would be appreciative of me strolling bare chested through the house. “Good morning.” I grinned down at the twin girls who had been causing the ruckus moments before.
Selene Lucas stared at me dumbfounded, not saying a word. I was beginning to think he hadn’t registered what I had said. “Lucas? Did you hear what I said?” I asked gently. “Maggie’s pregnant.” His response was robotic, as if he were answering on autopilot. “Yes.” “No. She – She wouldn’t. Not with my child, she wouldn’t run, not carrying my pup.” He stammered. “I think she ran because of me.” I whispered. Lucas roared, grabbing the nearest thing to him, and shattering it
“We should move EJ to the prison.” I told Lucas. “Wouldn’t it make more sense to move Marcus?” He asked, peering at me from across his desk. “If Alpha Lauren’s prisoner really is a spy, they’re less likely to slip up with the head of the assassin’s guild in the cell beside them. Moving EJ makes more sense. We can put the suspected spy in the basement and release Marcus to work for us.” “I’m still not sure about letting Marcus out, Selene. He killed the medic we had in the cell with him.” “On EJ&rs
Alistair “Abigail! What are you doing here?” I cheered as I strode toward the pack house receptionist desk. “Oh, I guess the regular lady needed to take some time off and Lucas suggested she have me take over while she’s gone. Gives me something to do, I suppose, other than worrying about Daniel.” She forced a smile. “I meant more ‘here’ in the general sense. Where is Daniel?” “Somewhere in Cerathe, digging for information to protect our daughter.” She sighed. “Orders went out to everyone, the king has even sent medics after her. Can you believe that? I’m no assassin, but for goddess sake, even I know
DanielI grabbed the woman around her waist, clamping my hand over her mouth as I pulled her into the darkened recess. “Mildred, it’s me, don’t scream.” I whispered as I released her. She whirled around to face me; her eyes wide with fear as she slapped me on the shoulder. “Why did you do that, Daniel?” She gasped. “You scared the daylights out of me. “I need your help. I was hoping you being a priestess meant you had access to information about the palace that you wouldn’t mind sharing with me for old time’s sake.” I grinned at her. “Daniel,
FenrickMaggie had been smart. She hadn’t boarded another bus out of Millstone, nor had she checked her and the kids into a hotel. She had purchased an old clunker from one of the small car lots in town, paying cash. The car was too old to have an onboard GPS tracking system. If I hadn’t been worried about the reaction I would receive at not being able to locate her, I’d have been impressed. “I could just run myself.” I chuckled, tossing my duffle into the back of my rental. “If I never go back, the Alpha will never know I failed.” The ringing of my cellphone interrupted the c
Selene“Our conversation about your work isn’t over.” Lucas cautioned me as he rose from the table.“You’re going to have to accept that I am an assassin, and I will always be one. Your sudden male ego bullshit won’t change that. I will never be the she-wolf that plans parties and sits at home with the children. If I were, you would be dead already.” I drawled, staring him down as I spoke.“It’s not male ego. My mate was almost blown to bits. I will never be ok with almost losing you for the second time.” He said, pulling out the puppy dog eyes.“Low blow, Alpha.” I scoffed. “I will promise to do my best not to get blown to pieces, but you have to back off and let me do what I’m good at. Speaking of what I’m good at, how do you want to deal with Celia and Alpha Tyson?”“The Alpha should be at the hotel where the rest of them are staying. I’m waiting
