07|a fish to trap

Jake William

____

"I love you." My girlfriend, Harriet whispered.

Her slim face was cupped in my large hands and our foreheads were in contact. Her strawberry cologne engulfed my nasal cavity as my lips found hers.

Roughly, my lips explored her needy ones as she tugged onto the locks of hair at the base of my neck. Her back was pressed on the locker and her curvy body caged by my own. Her perky breasts collided with my toned chest as we made out, savagely.

"Tell me it will never happen again" I whispered as I gazed down at her, I loved her and all I wanted from her was to stay out of trouble, or else the media was gonna publish every single thing she does. I had to do everything to keep her out of social media because everything she did was monitored by the paparazzi.

"Never." She breathlessly declared moments after we broke off from another kiss. Her big eyes stared into mine and a smile curved at her cherry red lips.

Harriet and I had been dating for a while now. Despite everyone knowing that I didn't want any attention as a prince, everyone knew she was my girlfriend, the queen of the school.

"I am so sorry for arguing with you last night. I promise from now on, I will never do something to annoy you." She confessed while pouting her crimson lips.

"I forgive you." I placed a peck on her lips.

She glanced at her diamond wristwatch and gasped, "oh, I have to go to the music class which started five minutes ago. Love you." She hurriedly walked off as her nine-inch heels clicked noisily on the tiled floor.

I watched her retreating figure with a small smile on my lips.

She was gorgeous, her hyper spirit was what I loved the most especially that she could stand for herself. But she was an attention seeker, which I hated. She was learning to calm her behaviour and that made me love her more.

But I was worried about our relationship. Whenever I kissed her, I did not get any goosebumps or butterflies in my tummy. All I felt was... normal.

Even when she spilt the four letter words to me, I didn't feel any strange sensations. We were like two opposites that attracted but have no connection whatsoever.

But I felt like I loved her because I always thought about her.

"Dude, I've been looking all over for you." A voice uttered and in a blink, I was jammed on my shoulder.

I turned around and met the grinning face of my best friend, Sam. He was like a brother to me. He was the same height as me, a 6'2, with short dirty blonde curly hair, slim pink lips, a long thick nose and sunken onyx-coloured eyes. He was clad in a basketball vest and a pair of navy blue denim pants.

"The hell? I thought you were absent today!" I flashed him a smile as we did the signature bro hug. "Where the hell were you?" I confronted him with a scrutinizing gaze.

He rolled his eyes, running a lackadaisical hand through his blonde curls. "I actually woke up late. Anyway, what's new? " he slung his arm around my shoulder as we strolled through the hallway.

His question took me back to the new girl who I saved from burning the laboratory down, she had also insulted me at Sydney's party.

She was the same girl who I supposedly saved from drowning, twice! At least she should have said a thank you but no, she went ahead and insulted me.

"Mh, just a new fish to trap." I retorted to Sam's question with a smirk.

"Fish? " he queried, throwing me a confused glare.

"Forget it." I nudged him on the side of his abdomen, playfully. "I have to head to the library, see you later."

"Sure." He gave an affirmative nod. "I'll see you later. Let me catch up with Dan. He mentioned the availability of fresh strawberry, I heard that the mysterious girl from the party joined our school." With that, he dashed off,

I knew that code quite well. It was a code we used when there was a new sexy girl. I was a huge user of that code until Harriet stumbled into my life like a fucking hurricane.

Since I didn't have a morning class, I decided to go to the library to read magazines and newspaper articles. I hated being idle and it's why I always read something or watched something during my free time.

When I got to the school library, I greeted the librarian who was a stout lady with a sea of wrinkles on her brow and a mop of black hair with specks of grey sitting on top of her head in a tight bun. She reciprocated the greeting by flashing me a warm smile then turned to two men who always followed me whenever I am not in class, my bodyguards.

I signalled them to stay a distance then decided to mind my business.

I strolled into the massive library which was flooded with shelves of books. Like a typical library, there was utmost tranquillity. The only noises that could be heard were those of book pages as they were being flipped through.

As I was passing through the reading lounge, I noticed that it was almost deserted. I could spot around three girls and seven guys.

When I got to the magazine section of the library, I was astonished to find none, the shelf was empty.

Great!

I groaned in annoyance and decisively opted for a novel. A good mystery novel was exactly what I needed to brighten up my mood.

I was scouring through the bookshelves for a novel when suddenly, my ears grasped a faint sound of a familiar voice. It was the new girl's voice. I peeked through the small space on the shelf to confirm my suspicion.

A feeling of mischief washed over me upon witnessing that it was indeed the same girl who had shamelessly insulted me.

"Time to teach the silly some manners."

I declared mentally then got to her side of the library. Her eyes widened instantly upon seeing me and before she had a chance to speak, I grabbed her hand and dragged her through the small pathway.

Once we got to the back of the library, away from everybody else, I shoved her to a wall. Her back collided with the brick wall and a painful groan escaped her lips. Before she could retaliate, I gripped both of her hands and pinned them above her head. She was trapped.

Her deep, chestnut brown eyes stared at me as she chomped down her bottom lip nervously. Her unique aloe vera scent massaged my nostrils as her nervous breaths scorched my chin. I brought my face closer to hers and instantly, she closed her eyes.

She was undeniably cute especially when nervous. Her light chocolate lips looked tempting and just begging to be claimed. She looked so naive as though everything that happens in movies could actually happen in real life. I wasn't gonna kiss her, never! I was there to gather an apology from her. An apology for insulting me.

"Start talking!" I declared coldly.

When she saw nothing was coming, she slowly opened her eyes and they instantly locked with mine once again. Her eyes were brimming with tears, she looked sad.

"I finally get to meet you in person." I grinned, looking straight into her teary eyes.

"Le-let go. "She whispered helplessly.

Her voice sounded meek and soft. It almost made me want to smile but I couldn't because I was mad at her.

"I have a problem with you." I droned.

"Um," she chomped her lower lip. I wasn't going to lie, that action was sexy as hell. "Do I know you?" She firmly asked. She had blinked her tears away and her plump chocolate lips had curved into a smile.

"Hm, nice try." I exhaled. "You trespassed on my property, insulated me and remember you almost burned the lab down and I saved your ass? Oh, you are clumsy, aren't you? Miss clumsy?"

"I'm Brenda, not clumsy, and no, I don't remember you. Wait...now I do. You are the prince. Please, be sure to behave so that your royal name doesn't get dragged through the mud." She hurled back and attempted to push me but I didn't move an inch.

Brenda.

She was the new strawberry that Sam and Dan wanted, and she looked like a fighter actually. I couldn't wait to see Sam's face when he realised that she was the same girl that turned him down when he had asked her to dance with him at Sydney's party.

"That doesn't scare me, darling. Now, what can you say about the party encounter? "

"A-about what? coward?" She asked, raising an eyebrow, a little stutter in her voice made her acting brave falter.

"Am I?"

"Aren't you?" She smirked, knowing she was getting the upper hand.

"So I am a coward?" I demanded harshly.

"I think so." She lisped, noticing the sudden coldness in my voice.

I didn't know why every time she whispered, it made me feel like grabbing her cheek and squeezing her like a marshmallow. She was so cute and that was very annoying because I was supposed to hate her for being rude and obnoxious to me.

"You are on it girl, be careful because I'm not sure if you can bear what this coward is capable of doing to you!" I stated coldly.

"Is that a royal threat?" I nearly chuckled at that. She was so courageous like none of the other girls. She narrowed her gaze when I didn't respond. "What are you getting at, prince coward? " She was daring me and that was riling me up.

"Good, 'cause I can see you are ready to play!" I stated giving her one last look then let her go. She heaved a long sigh and then ran off towards the reading lounge.

I threw her a cold glare, which turned into a light chuckle as she tripped on her own feet and fell face flat on the tiled floor. Embarrassed, she quickly got up and walked off, leaving me a chuckling mess.

I had turned around to mind my business when I heard a light scream.

"Leave me alone!"

I moved closer to where the chaos emerged only to find that my bodyguards had caged her.

Oh shit!

That's one reason I hated having bodyguards around.

"Let her go!" I commanded then walked to them. "Not everyone who talks to me has bad intentions! And yes, she is a student and she is running because she has a class!" I gritted.

It didn't occur to me that Brenda was still there but before I knew it, she had planted a hot slap across my face.

"Maybe that serves you, 'Prince'!"
