____I knew there was a mistake with my existence, and that was well confirmed by the current situation I was in.I was schooling in the same college with Royal people?I was so stupid not to recognize the princess who sat next to me in that class. No, I was dumb enough not to recognise Prince Jake William all this time. Who doesn't know him?But I never liked him even before we moved to Britain, I only used to see his photos on my Denmark friend's phone, because she was obsessed with him.I was fucked for real.Dulcie, I mean Princess Dulcie, was my deskmate. Okay, Prince Jake William, the son to the next in line after Queen Eleanor, meaning he was the next in line after his father, and I slapped him. No!That afternoon I was heading home from school after a long day that made me want to run away. I needed to talk to my parents since there seemed to be something amiss with me being in an international college that the Royal family attended. As I was approaching the bus stop, I heard the hooting of a car. I glanced back and saw a black jeep pulling up towards me slowly."Hope on, cute schooler." Lance, the aged man who visited our place at midnight, peeked his head out of the window, waving me over."No thanks," I shook my head then continued to walk off. I heard a car door shut and I knew he had alighted the car."Your mother talked with you, didn't she?" he asked, causing me to halt and turn to face him."So?" I raised a brow."Didn't she warn you against jeopardising her plans?" He asked while shoving his hands in his pants' pockets.Yes, I had a talk with mum about the weird man who had declared to pick me up from school and she ended up blurting a lot.All my life I tried to impress mom. To make her at least smile warmly at me for once. I craved her motherly love and attention. It's why I always strived to be the best student in class in order to win her approval. But poor me, no matter what I did, it was never enough. I was never enough. I was her greatest disappointment."What is this all about, I thought it was about the school which I managed to get admitted to, quickly.""There is only one way to find out. Remember, you got to school in a blink, something that has never happened. And by the way, I heard you almost burned the laboratory down?""Who is feeding you with such information? Who are you?" I asked with raised brows."Get in the car!"I sighed and hesitantly began walking to the passenger side of the door. Upon entering, I shut the door. He occupied the driver's seat, roared the car to life and zoomed off.Maybe what I needed to do first was to find out who this man was before I get to bring up the issue of him touching me without permission."Where are the papers that I should sign?" I asked, I might as well see what the contract was all about to draw out my conclusions."They are in my office." He droned, taking a right turn that headed away from my house's location.Twenty minutes later, we pulled up in the parking lot of an enormous house. It looked like all those Victorian mansions you see on television.Stepping down from the car, I waited for him to turn off the engine of the car and come down."Follow me," he ordered, pressing a button on his phone to close the garage.I sighed and followed. Upon arriving at the gate to his house, he put a small black remote-like thing on the gate and it clicked and then slid open. The compound was quite large, with beautiful plants and trees decorating the exteriors as the wild orchids and lavender---whose scent wafted in the air.We arrived at the front door and he hit a few buttons at a spot and the door opened. I awed at how everything seemed to be computerized in the house.Leading me past the glamorous living room to his office, he slammed the door as soon as we entered."Sit down," he commanded, motioning to a chair and I did as I was instructed."Here are the papers," he dropped a file in front of me. "Go through them and sign them quickly," he said.I snatched up the file and opened it. There was a white sheet inside containing five pages or so.Paying attention to the main details and throwing away irrelevancy, I began to make out the main points. It all started to piece together. How dad lost his job and the house bills escalated and all of a sudden, mom informed us that it had all been paid. Then during that time, my dad was still job hunting, I had been sent home because I was owing the school a huge amount of school fees. I remembered staying at home for two weeks when the third week, mom took me back to school and cleared all my bills, that was back in Denmark. Then came the time when dad caught the flu while he was still job hunting. He had infected me with it so we both had to be put under medical care. Mom had to pay our bills. Then lastly was our new house and my new school. Mom had suggested it and she had single-handedly bought it."So?" I shrugged, pushing the paper to him."Continue reading, Brenda." he pushed the paper back to me.I huffed and turned over the last page. Scrutinizing my gaze on it, what I saw left me partially paralyzed for a few seconds. I felt like I was being jabbed with a dagger in the heart. Was this what the feeling of being betrayed felt like? or does it just hurt this way when you realize the person behind this betrayal was the woman that gave birth to you?"I-No... I..." I pushed the seat behind ready to run away. "Let me out!""You better sign it young lady.""No! I am not doing- get-Okay-" I ran towards the exit just to see myself leaving but the door clicked shut. "Open the door!""I spent millions of money here! Don't make me do worse! And, do you wanna see your dad? There...there he is" He opened the window curtain that revealed the backyard of the house where dad was. He was busy watering the flowers. He was Lance's gardener! How was that even possible?"No!" I shook my head disagreeing that dad had no job. Especially because I always see him off to work even at night."You have no choice, your family is in my hands!""N-no. I disagree!" I cried pushing him away from me. "This is not t-true!""Okay, I am opening the door. But you have to know this, you will be homeless when your parents rot in jail. I have wasted millions of money for your family, I spent a lot for you to get admitted to a national school! A school that the royal family also attend to. Get out!""N-no!" I cried begging him. I couldn't believe he was the reason we lived. "Please don't -'"Get out or sign the contract!"I was on my knees crying my eyes off and it took me minutes to realize that mum hated me for a reason. And the efforts of trying to make her see me as her daughter had now drowned.Feeling angry, betrayed, and hopeless, I got up and took a pen to sign the contract.I didn't see a future without signing the contract.Jake William____ "I love you." My girlfriend, Harriet whispered. Her slim face was cupped in my large hands and our foreheads were in contact. Her strawberry cologne engulfed my nasal cavity as my lips found hers.Roughly, my lips explored her needy ones as she tugged onto the locks of hair at the base of my neck. Her back was pressed on the locker and her curvy body caged by my own. Her perky breasts collided with my toned chest as we made out, savagely."Tell me it will never happen again" I whispered as I gazed down at her, I loved her and all I wanted from her was to stay out of trouble, or else the media was gonna publish every single thing she does. I had to do everything to keep her out of social media because everything she did was monitored by the paparazzi."Never." She breathlessly declared moments after we broke off from another kiss. Her big eyes stared into mine and a smile curved at her cherry red lips.Harriet and I had been dating for a while now. Despite everyone k
Brenda G____ "Hey?" Princess Dulcie called me before I dashed out of the class. The literature class was over and I wanted to be the first to leave before the prince coward could plan to ambush me for slapping him. "Do you wanna join us at our table for lunch?" She genuinely asked."Oh…" I looked around briefly. Everyone was getting ready to go for lunch, including the Prince who was always seated on a seat directly across from our desk. "...I had plans with someone else." I returned the politeness. She nodded, "that's okay then. See you in our last class." She smiled and I returned it.Dulcie was sweet and calm. She had been making efforts to be friends with me but her being a royal princess and a cousin to prince coward, felt wrong. I felt like I needed to keep a safe distance."Sure," I mumbled, then fixed my backpack on my shoulder and decided to leave. My life had turned into a living hell. No joy came with it. I kept thinking about mum and Lance, and how they easily ruined me.
Brenda G___ The day expired without another hullabaloo in school. I would have been joyful about it but then I was back home. The living hell. I knew that I needed to get used to the harsh reality. No matter how difficult it seemed.I wished I could run away from everything, maybe to an island where I would be alone. Seeing mum around was reminding me that I was a pathetic daughter to her. It wounded me every second. The lesion was fresh, one that uncertainly would heal.I was woken from my peaceful nap by the sound of a car engine going off. I knew my parents had just arrived from work, or wherever they were because I couldn't understand them anymore.I was lying on my stomach. It was how I loved to sleep, even as a kid. It was also an easy way to sleep with shoes on. I hadn't done anything since I arrived from school. My limbs felt like a sledgehammer had whacked them because they were throbbing in affliction.Propping my elbows on the bed, I felt something cold underneath the cov
Brenda G____ I fished a calculus book from my locker then waddled to the classroom. I had arrived at school ten minutes earlier because of the beautiful fact that the apartment I resided in was located a few blocks from the school.Lucky me, indeed.I dug my hand into my denim high-waist pants' pocket and extracted my phone. I swiftly typed a text to Sydney. We have been getting close lately.Me: Hae girl, where are you? After a few seconds, she responded.Syd: Hi, Bree, I passed by the clinic to check up on the wound, I'll be there in a few minutes.Me: Alright. I hope 'the witch' didn't cast her evil spell on you again.Syd: Lol no, she didn't. She left home a little early today, I don't know what's on her sleeves. Just be careful.Me: I will. But I won't hold it if she crosses the wrong side.Syd and I continued texting as I giggled at most of the nasty things she said about the evil witch, Harriet. I learned that their relationship as sisters wasn't good.Syd: Okay, I'm coming i
Jake William_____ "Good afternoon class?" Miss Ken, our Talent and Skills professor, greeted us.She was the only young professor in the college. She was gaunt, with sunken cheeks and protruded cheekbones, her melanoid hair was always resting on her small back. Judging by her leanness, one could tell that eating was the least of her priorities. She strolled back and forth in front of the classroom while waving her slim hand to the tune of the music that we were currently singing. Angelic voices wafted in the air as the song rose and fell.I noticed that everyone was singing except Harriet, my girlfriend. She was chewing on a piece of strawberry gum while constantly throwing evil glances at Brenda who was seated at a distance from us.She was annoyed by Brenda like I was, but I had a reason, what was Harriet's reason to hate Brenda? The question rang in my head as I witnessed the devilish looks that Harriet was showering on Brenda. We were seated in three rows. Row A, B and C. Harriet
Brenda G_____ We were in the music room where the practical session was to take place. It was so hurting to listen to how some of us had a good relationship with their parents. The whole session reminded me of my mum. I remembered when I once brought up the topic of wanting to learn Piano, mum turned me off.Harriet ranted about how her parents supported her and nurtured her talent. I was jealous. I wished that mum could have shown a little effort into what I loved, what I wanted. That made me sad. I couldn't help but feel the immense pain in my chest. It had been weeks since I moved, and only dad called me to know how I was fairing.I missed them. To be honest, I missed mum so much even though she hated me. Just having people we could share dinner with, was enough. I had no count of how many times I skipped dinner, I only used to eat well if Sydney visited me and we would spend the night at my place. My mum hurt me so badly, but I still missed her so much. I missed my family.I didn
Brenda G_____ "Done! " I declared then glared at the three girls who were engrossed in the calculations. Their visages were clouded with uncertainty. It was quite evident that they were having a hard time solving the mathematical problem.Sydney resembled a Halloween witch. Her Valkyrie gold hair was sprawled all over her head messily and her brow was wrinkled from stress. Her slim fingers severally raked through her locks of hair as she tried to solve the unsolvable equation. Irritated clicks escaped her mouth frequently.Clearly, Maths is a monster to some people. Syd, being one of those people.Dulcie on the other hand was smart as she seemed to be solving the mathematical problem just fine. However, she suffered from self-doubt it's why she kept doubting her answers and steps. When I peeked at her notebook, I noticed that she had erased the correct answer more than once and was currently solving it wrongly. She reminded me of my best friend, Lucy. The girl always doubted her ans
Brenda G_____I was strolling behind the girls since I was on a phone call with my dad. Yes, my phone had survived Jake's apocalypse. The screen was cracked but the phone worked just fine.My dad was catching me up on the events at home. He lamented about how he missed my presence at home and also informed me of Gg had grown lean because he missed me too.Poor Gg. I should visit him one of these days. After a long phone call with him, I hung up.The more we approached the basketball pitch, the louder the noise became. The boys were running around the pitch, dribbling the ball while yelling at the top of their voices. We took our respective seats on the benches. The afternoon sun was baking the players who dripped with perspiration as heavy pants exited their mouths. Sam who looked enfeebled, was taking a breather outside the pitch. His palms were over his knees as he bent over. His basketball jersey was drenched with sweat. My eyes rested on Jake who was drowned in the game. The ball
