Lila stumbled in, pale and gasping. “Luna—” she choked out, “the Elders and Alpha… they’re outside the pack house. Everyone’s gathered.”

My blood ran cold. “What?”

She nodded, trembling. “The whole pack.”

I took her trembling hands. “Don’t cry, Lila. Nothing will happen to me.”

Even as I said it, my chest ached with dread.

When I stepped outside, everyone was there, including the delta, hunters, scouts, warriors, and medics.

All the people in those ranks rarely left their posts unless the Elders and Alpha had an important message that needed their attention in the gathering hall.

“Luna,” Leo directed as I approached the courtyard. “Step forward and kneel before the pack.”

My knees felt weak, but I obeyed. As I knelt, I caught sight of Mary and Brian behind him. Mary smirked, her hand resting protectively on Brian’s shoulder while he stared at me with disgust.
