“Are you okay, Athena?” my twin sister, Aurora , asked as she walked toward me. I didn’t answer immediately. Instead, I scanned the crowded ballroom, my eyes searching for Silas—my boyfriend. The loud music, the chatter, and the bright lights made my head pound painfully, but I forced myself to stay calm. Tonight was important. It was almost time for wolves to mark their mates, and Silas was nowhere to be found. My chest tightened with fear. I bit my lower lip hard and finally looked at Aurora . “Do you think… Do you think he changed his mind about marking me because I don’t have a wolf?” I asked in a shaky voice, struggling to hold back my tears. Aurora quickly grabbed my hands, squeezing them gently. “Of course not,” she said firmly. “Stop letting your stupid nerves get the best of you. I just saw Silas a few minutes ago.” My heart skipped. “You did?” She nodded. “Yes. He said he wasn’t feeling well. He told me to tell you that if he stayed away too long, you should come check on him. He’s in room 302.” I let out a deep breath of relief. Silas hadn’t left me. He was still here, he was just unwell. “I should go check on him,” I said softly. “The Lycan King will arrive soon.” Once the Lycan King arrived, every wolf who had chosen their mate would step forward and seal their bond. Silas and I would stand together. At least, that was the plan. Silas and I had fallen in love two years ago when I was still at the Academy. Unlike me, he had a wolf and was already training to become a gamma. He is the most promising warrior in our pack and the most eligible to become an Alpha in future. Even so, he chose me, he said he didn’t care about waiting for a fated mate. Just like the other wolves who had come to the annual mating ball organized by the Lycan King, Silas and I had decided to choose each other tonight, to mark each other under the full moon and be bonded forever according to tradition. “Here,” Aurora said, pulling me out of my thoughts as she handed me a glass of champagne. “This will help calm your nerves.” I hesitated, staring at the glass, I wasn’t much of a drinker. “Come on,” she insisted, pushing it into my hand. “You need your confidence tonight.” I finally gave in and drank it all in one go. “I need to go check on Silas,” I said, handing the empty glass back to her. I walked through the crowded ballroom, passing laughing couples and excited wolves, and headed straight for the exit. Just as I was about to leave, an announcement echoed through the hall. “Anyone who has found their chosen mate should move forward so their bond may be sealed forever.” My heart raced. I rushed out of the ballroom and pulled out my phone and opened my map to locate the hotel rooms. It took me about five minutes to find my way. My steps were quick and my chest heavy with both hope and fear as I made my way toward room 302. My steps grew unsteady as I walked down the quiet hallway. The further I went, the heavier my body felt. The champagne Aurora gave me suddenly burned in my veins, and my vision began to blur at the edges. Something was wrong, I know I am not much of a drinker but this is beyond intoxication. I pressed a hand to the wall, breathing hard as heat spread through my body, deep, intense, and unfamiliar. My skin felt too tight, too warm, like it was on fire from the inside. My pussy was on fire and nipples were as hard as a pebble burning for attention. “Please…not now please ,” I whispered as I rubbed my thighs together. I stopped in front of a door, squinting at the numbers, but they refused to stay still. My eyes refused to focus. Was it room 302… or 305? My head throbbed violently, and another wave of heat crashed through me, stealing the strength from my knees. I couldn’t think straight anymore. All I knew was that I needed Silas right now, I don’t think I can make it back to the mating ceremony. I pushed the door open and stumbled inside. “Silas?” I called out weakly, my voice echoing in the quiet room. There was no answer , qroom was dim and empty. Panic crept into my chest as I took a few steps forward, my heart pounding loudly in my ears. “Silas?” I called again, louder this time, Still nothing. My breathing became uneven as another surge of heat ripped through me, stronger than before. My body trembled uncontrollably, sweat breaking out across my skin. I staggered toward the bathroom and pushed the door open. It was empty. Tears burned my eyes as fear and confusion mixed together. Whatever was happening to me was getting worse. My whole body felt like it was burning alive, my thoughts scattered and hazy. “I need… water,” I muttered desperately. Without thinking, I rushed back into the bathroom and turned on the shower, not bothering to remove my clothes. Cold water poured down over me, soaking through my dress, but it barely helped. The heat refused to fade. I leaned against the tiled wall, gasping, my knees threatening to give way. Then the bathroom door opened suddenly. I froze. “Silas?” I called out, squinting hard. My vision was so blurry that everyone looked like a tall shadow. “Silas, is that you?” My heart began to pound wildly as slow footsteps moved closer to me. The person stopped right in front of me. I blinked, this person is definitely not Silas. Even with my terrible vision, I could tell this man was huge and broad. The kind of dominating presence that made the room feel smaller just by standing there. I still couldn’t see his face clearly, but his scent hit me immediately, warm, rich, and ridiculously good. I frowned slightly. “Wow,” I muttered under my breath. “Either you smell amazing, or this drink Aurora gave me is trying to ruin my life.” Another wave of heat crashed through me, and I groaned dramatically, grabbing the front of his shirt without thinking. Desperation completely overpowered dignity at this point. I tugged him closer, resting my overheated forehead against his chest. “Please,” I said breathlessly, my words tumbling out in a rush, “I am begging you, help me quench this heat before I burn, please.”Azrael“Why do you ask?” Athena asked, her brows slightly furrowed.I had been standing there for longer than I cared to admit, watching her from a distance. She hadn’t moved for several minutes, her attention completely fixed on the memo. There was something in her eyes—something she was trying hard to hide, but I could see it clearly. Desire, a quiet longing.I had also noticed Jethro before he approached her. The way he walked up so comfortably, the way he spoke to her and worse, the way he touched her so casually. It didn’t sit well with me. It stirred something sharp and unpleasant in my chest—jealousy, mixed with a rising anger I couldn’t quite explain. I didn’t like him near her and I needed to have a word with him.“I told you I was watching you,” I replied calmly. “You have been staring at that memo for quite some time.”She shook her head quickly, brushing it off. “I’m not interested,” she said with a quiet sigh. “This kind of thing isn’t meant for people like me. I don’t h
AthenaI stood in front of the notice board at one of the corners in the pack, my eyes fixed on a freshly posted memo. It was an announcement calling for new recruits to join the pack’s warriors. The bold letters seemed to pull me in, making it hard to look away. My heart stirred with something I had buried for a long time—desire, longing, a dream I was never allowed to chase.“You have been standing here for over five minutes,” a voice said behind me. “Don’t tell me you are thinking of joining the king’s army.”I turned slightly and saw Jethro, one of the palace guards. He leaned casually against the wall, a small smile playing on his lips. We had grown close over time, ever since I started working as a cleaner in the king’s office. He was one of the few people who spoke to me like I mattered.I let out a quiet sigh and looked back at the memo. “I have always wanted to be a warrior,” I admitted. “Not just a fighter, I wanted to lead, to plan battles, to stand on the front lines an
AzraelWe broke apart immediately. Athena stepped away from me at once, picking up her cleaning supplies like nothing had happened. She moved to the other side of the office and began working, her movements controlled, but I could tell she was trying to steady herself.I walked back to my desk and took my seat, forcing my expression back to normal. Another knock came from the door. “Come in,” I said. The door opened, and my mother stepped inside. Her eyes moved around the room before settling on Athena. A slow smirk spread across her face as she took in the scene, then she walked forward and sat down without waiting to be invited.“The woods behind the hall were not enough for you?” she said casually. “You had to bring your activities into the pack? Into your own office?”I frowned slightly, keeping my voice even. “What are you talking about?”She leaned back in her chair, clearly amused. “The business between you and your mistress,” she said, pointing directly at Athena.Athena froze
AthenaI stood in front of the king’s door, holding my cleaning supplies tightly in my hands before I finally raised one hand and knocked.I had tried to avoid coming here, my plan had been simple—my plan had been to clean his office first and leave his room for later, hoping I would not have to see him at all. But when I got there, I was told he was still inside. That ruined everything. So I changed direction and decided to come clean his room instead. On my way, Talia stopped me for a quick conversation. It wasn’t long, but it delayed me just enough. By the time I got here, I was told he had already returned to his room. At that point, I had no excuse to turn back. The door opened almost immediately, like he had been standing right behind it. And there he was, shirtless. For a second, I forgot why I was there. His entire upper body was exposed, every muscle defined, I forced my eyes upward, trying to focus on his face instead of the rest of him. He looked tired, not just a little t
Athena“What do you want?” I asked the moment they stepped into the room. Both of them wore deep frowns, their faces filled with anger instead of concern. My mother let out a short, mocking laugh and turned to my father. “Did you hear that?” she said. “She’s asking what we are doing here.”They mov
AthenaBy the time I finished scrubbing the entire kitchen, my body felt like it was about to give up. My back throbbed with pain, and my arms felt weak from all the work. If not for Talia, who came in later to help when she didn’t find me in the room, I wouldn’t have finished on time. She had work
Athena“Come in.” The voice came from inside before I even had the chance to knock.I pushed the door open slowly and stepped into the Gamma’s office, the room was quiet. My eyes moved around, searching, but there was no one in sight. For a moment, I hesitated just inside the doorway. Someone had
Azrael’s POVI hurried after Varek as he stepped out of the emergency unit. “How is she doing now?” I asked, my voice tight with worry.Varek hesitated, glancing at me before speaking. “Your Majesty, she is stable but the poison affected her brain and reduced oxygen supply—”I snapped, cutting him
