Proposal

They say some nights are longer than the other well that was the same case with this particular night, which almost looked impossible to pass through like it won’t be able to witness a morning. Like there was no light to this darkness or maybe I just didn’t want to see that light.

After Elvin left I went straight to my dorm, and Ella wasn’t there, this was one of those times when I needed my bestfriend right by me but she wasn’t there, it was just an empty dorm to which I walked in. Everything in that dorm was screaming loneliness like my demons were left unleashed teasing me, torturing me, laughing at me, I always sucked in being alone but after the night I just had a feeling like all my demons have just heightened. I climbed on my bed and allowed my body to lose control, lying there I was simply staring the ceiling in front of my eyes, wanting to drift away my thoughts to something more positive but I was lost somewhere unable to decide what he meant by whatever he said and with such heavy thoughts I went to bed and dozed off immediately  when suddenly I heard my phone ringing I struggled to find my phone as I was still drowsy, my phone’s display was flashing a call from some private number, among all the confusion I picked the call and from the other end I heard Elvin’s voice “ hey Charlotte, I would like to remind you that I will be waiting for you at your hostels garden, hope you are not planning to disappoint me” and with that he hung up on me. I looked at the time displaying on my phone’s screen it was almost 12 so with a deep sigh I realized I couldn’t escape it so maybe I should give it a try. With my eyes half closed I looked for my slippers under my bed, I looked at myself in the mirror and I realized I haven’t even changed my dress, by now my dress was all wrinkled.

 I closed the door of my room silently on my way out so that no one notices my absence as I didn’t want to complicate things for me any more than it already is. There was a pin drop silence everywhere so much that even a slightest of noise was capable of creating a shrill intensity as it was a silent winter night making it a bit scary including the fact that I have to cross two hostel buildings to reach the garden. I started shivering as the cold wind was hitting on my face like an ocean wave covers a sand castle and those huge trees on my way and their magnificent shadow was making me uncomfortable for the first time but I convinced myself that everything was normal like any other day where I randomly roam with Ella in the garden and I don’t need to be afraid so I entered the garden it was empty there was nothing except the sound of crickets, insects and in all that darkness and hazy sky those tress were looking like some shadow which was creeping me out now more than ever.

 May be coming here was a bad idea I mumbled to myself as I turned to leave when Elvin just appeared there like he did the last time as if it was some magic. “You need to tell me how you manage to creep me out everytime by appearing out of nowhere”, I almost shouted. He covered my lips with his finger and with a smirk he said “I guess you don’t want to wake up your entire hostel my love”. I stepped back and almost in whisper I asked, “What you want from me?” Elvin again laughed and added, “I guess it’s the other way round love”.

He stepped forward and I felt chills down my spine as he held my hands between his cold palm and then he put his arm around my waist pulling me closer to him, so close that I could feel his breath on my face so much that I was unwillingly frozen in that moment. It was not remotely romantic as it seemed to be but then suddenly the next moment we jumped and it was not a normal jump it was more like we were travelling to a different dimension, a time escape or something I wasn’t sure about but then we landed somewhere, I looked around and it was nothing like my hostel, it was more like a construction site.  “Where are we?” I asked with my eyes wide open in shock and also how “We got here? What just happened?” I continued blabbering. “Oh my love, you ever heard of one at a time.... Let’s take it that way, you are confusing me with all that”, Elvin said with a smirk on his face and I couldn’t help myself and just kept staring at his beautiful face.

“Well with your question about how we came here, have you ever heard of the term Teleportation well we just did that”, Elvin said in such a casual tone like he was talking about getting doughnuts. “Excuse me?” I almost freaked out with fear running all over my body like a drop of cold blood I asked, “You want me to believe that we teleported here as if it exists?” “Do you see any more logical reasoning to explain your journey here”, Elvin exclaimed. “Well definitely some sort of magic trick could explain all this, else how it would have been possible and how can you even pull this off, are you a magician” and I was going and going with my questions when Elvin pulled my hand and said, “don’t make this harder for me as what I’m going to tell you would not be easy to believe”.

With that being said Elvin griped his hands around my wrist a bit more firmly then before and it was hurting me when suddenly something started happening to his face, his blood veins appeared as if they were clotting blood on his face making it visible and horrifying, his eyes were red as if blood rushed in them and I was terrified to even maintain an eye contact and when I couldn’t hold it anymore I almost shouted and my conscious couldn’t bear that horror anymore so I passed out on the floor.

 When I woke up all I could sense was the aroma of lavender candles with a bit of strength I tried to move my neck in different directions to examine the place I was stuck in and I found myself in a comfy bed wrapped in a cosy blanket, I looked around I was in a beautiful room with scented candles, red curtains, and Ed Shreen’s photograph playing in the background when suddenly Elvin entered the room, he was beaming at me and even though I was scared of him but I couldn’t help but notice his dreamy green eyes. “It’s good that you are awake now, I heard your breath rate intensity increasing while I was in the kitchen so I figured out that you would be awake” Elvin said while giving me hand to support my upper body.

“You heard me breathing, how is this even possible”, he could sense the fear in my voice. Elvin ignored all that and with a smile passed me a plate of pancakes, you must be hungry Charlotte, why don’t you grab a bite while we are talking about this. I was little confused with this gesture of Elvin as this was not the ideal behaviour I was expecting from him just after he nearly scared me to death by revealing the monster behind that innocent face few hours back. I took the plate from him with a thought that annoying him would not be a good idea for me as the situations around me wasn’t very favourable.

Elvin sat close to me and very calmly he looked into my eyes and he said, “You remember, the other day at the book store you were telling me how desperately you wanted to be a vampire how much you wished for it to be true?” I nodded in a yes, then he continued saying how the destiny worked right for us and we met each other. I gave him a confused look, he paused and smiled while looking straight into my eyes and almost mumbled something which was not enough audible for me. I said, “Sorry I couldn’t hear you, can you please repeat”. I could see he was struggling with his words then he finally gathered the courage and said, Charlotte I’m a vampire.

“You are what?” I could feel goose bumps on my skin and my voice choking, as I managed to speak somehow.

“Yes Charlotte I’m a vampire and I thought showing you my transition will help you to understand more but it clearly wasn’t a good idea”. “No Elvin it’s just that I don’t know you much and definitely wasn’t prepared for something like this and I got scared and honestly I didn’t even know that vampires exist until now’. Elvin smiled and said “courage is definitely not your forte”. I was embarrassed and was still shivering so I tried to change the topic to distract him so that he doesn’t get pissed anymore and would let me go.

After reading the room for a while I said, “Why did you tell me about you being a vampire, as I’ve read in those vampire books it’s a secret in your community which you people protect at any cost”.

Elvin paused for a second and then said, “Yes those vampire books are correct about some of the stuff, because it is usually written by some writers of our community to create a debate of myth for humans. And humans are naive enough to understand the concept beyond death so why to bother them with something beyond their understanding. As far as you’re concerned so I choose you to share my secret as you are special and I knew this from the moment we interacted in my book store”. “I’m a vampire Charlotte, I can peak into a person’s soul so how could I miss that spark in your eyes when you were wishing for vampires to be true, you’re eyes were shining when you were talking about them or talking about us. That was the moment I decided to tell you my little secret but I needed to be sure before that so that was the reason why I was following you for weeks. Not because I was some creepy stalker you accused me to be. So I hope you aren’t scared of me anymore?” and after his little speech the room went into silence again.

After a while I finally spoke, “Yeah I wouldn’t have been so scared if instead of freaking me out you would’ve told me nicely like humans. Ohhh! You aren’t human” and I started laughing after saying this.

But Elvin didn’t reciprocate my laughter instead with a stern face he said, “Irony would laugh in a corner if a vampire would reveal his secret in a way similar to humans. I don’t even like petty humans they are weak and vulnerable”.

His snarky attitude offended me a bit so I snapped, “Then tell me why are you eating pancakes on a bed with a petty human. Aren’t you compromising with your believes”.

Elvin smiled at me, “Obviously not love, you are special that’s why I decided to share my secret with you and also because it’s like a burden to hold your secret all by yourself when you have infinite time to take the risk”, there was a sense of flirt in his tone, the way he was speaking was making me attracted towards him.

While trying to hold on to me nerves without making it any more obvious I said, “So what is your age? I mean apart from what you’ve fooling around people with”

Elvin grinned up looking at me, “I’m 21 years old from past 190 years”.

I think my jaw just dropped, “You are that old? How do you even live a normal life without people getting snarky and sceptical?”

Elvin, “I change countries after every 10 years. The best part of being immortal is that you’ve got all the time for an eternity to do everything you want, to travel wherever you want to”.

I was terrified of Elvin but I wasn’t able to hold onto my curiosities, “ Please don’t think me as some kind of freak but I’ve so many questions, as I’ve not met any vampire before in my life and you are the first and the only so I can’t control my curiosity.”

Elvin as calm as an ocean replied, “I’m all yours for this night ask me whatever you feel like.”

I shot him with another question, “What about your diet? For as far as I know vampires feed on blood so you kill people?”

Elvin took a deep sigh and then said, “I used to kill people for a long time mostly for fun but then I gave up.”

I dropped the silver fork in my hand filling the entire room with a loud noise of it hitting against the glass plate, “What made you give up human blood and become a vegetarian vampire?”

For a second Elvin just gave me a blank stare and then he finally spoke, “What made you believe I’m a vegetarian vampire?  I love human blood, what I was trying to say was that I don’t kill people anymore for the sake of blood. But blood-bags are still a trend. Let me show you my beautiful refrigerator filled with blood-bags. And 0+ is my favourite blood group of all and the least favourite is B-, tell me again what is your blood group”.

My heart just skipped a beat and my face looked like a pale orchid, “Is there any difference? I guess they should all taste same”.

Elvin said in an offended tone, “Does all your food taste same? Nope they don’t, so why do  you expect my food to taste same.”

I immediately became defensive, “Sorry!!! I didn’t mean to offend you. I was just curious and unaware.”

Elvin, “None taken I get your curiosity. But enough with the question answer round because now I’m getting bored little munchkin.”

While I was trying to zip my lips for my own sake I saw him collecting my pancake plates and  then Elvin paused the music, held my hand and started caressing it and very slowly he spoke, “Charlotte the real reason I told you about me being vampire is because I wanted you to turn into one, You’ve caught my eye from the moment I’ve met you and if you will turn into one we could have eternity for ourselves. I want you by my side for the rest of the eternity".
