Natasha was the last person I expected to see.

So, imagine my surprise when I walked out of my room and found her sitting on the living room couch, completely at ease. She had a smile on her face, but somehow, that was even more disturbing than the disgusted looks she usually threw at me.

“Why are you here?” I questioned.

“The fact that you live here, human, doesn't give you any claim to this place.”

“I don’t think Wraith would be very happy if he discovered you were here without his permission.”

“Actually, he sent me here.”

That couldn’t be true; Wraith knew what she did; he wouldn’t send her here. She had to be lying.

“To apologize to you.” she added, “He won’t let me out of the dungeons until I’ve apologized, and that’s exactly why I am here.”

Wraith had her thrown into the dungeons? While it explained her absence, it still made no sense. From the look of things, Natasha was an important person here in the pack, and I was no more than a human. I would've thought someone like

Wraith had informed me that we’d be having dinner with the rest of the pack, so I dressed in a mid-length, royal blue gown. As soon as I was ready, I joined him in the living room.I couldn’t help but notice the slight tension in him and how he kept unconsciously curling and uncurling his fists. Before I could ask if he was alright, he spoke up.“Rex would be joining us for dinner, I just thought you should know,” he said, and I nodded since I didn’t have a response to that. I remembered the last time the Alpha had joined us, he’d assigned Wraith a task that ended with him getting shot.“The dress—it looks… good on you.” He said, and I realized that was the first time he had ever complimented anything about me.“Thank you. And I think you look good too—I mean, when do you not? You always look good. Not just good, actually—perfect…” I trailed off, realizing I’d said way too much. “Sorry.”He shook his head slowly before taking my hands. We walked into the dining room, hand in hand, and

TESSA’S POVThree days had passed.I felt less sore and could finally move around freely, all thanks to whatever was the content in that bottle Wraith gave me.Earlier, Angelina had paid me a visit, curious to know every detail of how I’ve gone from crying my eyes out to moaning out Wraith’s name. One point to never forget: shut the door to avoid anyone from listening in—I hadn’t even realized how loud I’d been. When I wouldn’t give a single detail on how sex with Wraith had been except for the vague words ‘very… good,’ Angelina left disappointed, calling me a ‘buzzkill.’But the truth was that I was still trying to figure out what had happened that night and how it had even happened. Wraith didn’t go back to ignoring me as he did the past times we shared intimate moments; in fact, I noticed he had been more present these past three days, and I wanted it to mean something. Had what happened between us been ‘just sex’ Or was it more than that?I couldn’t ask him about that; I didn’t w

WRAITH’S POVTessa lay beside me. I watched as her chest rose and fell with each breath. She had fallen asleep in my arms.I’d made a promise to myself to stay away from her, but somehow that proved impossible. I hadn’t been able to stop thinking about how tight she’d felt when I satisfied her with my fingers, how perfect she tasted when I went down on her. It was never enough though. I wanted more. And more was dangerous. That was exactly why I should’ve stayed away.Last night, everything had happened so fast, and yet I couldn’t forget. I couldn’t forget the way she moaned my name, the way she whimpered in both pain and pleasure. I couldn’t forget how bold she’d been—how she demanded what she wanted. I’d had sex before, but this felt different.I couldn’t tell if she felt the same; she had been in a vulnerable moment, maybe she wasn’t thinking clearly. Yet, none of what had happened felt wrong; on the contrary, it felt… right.Four years ago, I discovered that Tessa was my mate. I s

  • The Beta and The Lost Heiress   Chapter Fifty Six

**Anonymous POVRachel Valemont had given up ‘trying’ a long time ago. She’d settled into the reality that she would never be a good mother to her daughter, and at some point, she had simply stopped trying. What was the need? At the end she only got Tessa’s hopes up, only to disappoint her.“I don’t want to remember how much of a failure you’ve been,” Tessa had told her. And the truth was, Rachel had earned those words—every harsh, brutal thing thrown at her was well deserved. Still, it had surprised her to hear those words from her daughter. Maybe because the loving daughter she’d known would never say that to her face. Tessa was changing, or maybe she’d just finally had enough. She could have stayed back; she could have stayed with her daughter, but she didn’t, and the moment she walked out of that door, she knew there was no turning back. It wasn’t going to be like the other times she would beg and plead for forgiveness, and Tessa, ever the loving daughter, would let her back into

If I had any tears left to shed, I would’ve drowned in them. But now, I just sat there—numb, yet strangely lighter.“She was not always like this, you know. I hardly remember those times, but I know they were there. I dream about them sometimes, but that’s all they feel like—dreams, distant dreams.”“Tessa…” Wraith began, almost like he didn’t know the right words to say. He settled on the words, “I’m sorry this happened to you.”But I didn’t miss the rage—the anger flashing in his eyes. I didn’t miss his fist clenching so hard that his already bruised knuckles turned white. He wasn’t mad at me, though; it was like he was mad at himself. He stepped back, running his hands through his hair.I could see how hard he was trying—trying to comfort me, but he just didn’t know how.I closed the distance between us and gently wrapped my hands around his, still clenched into fists. I didn’t think he even realized they were. But now, he slowly uncurled them, flexing his fingers. My hands trailed

CHAPTER FIFTY FOURI was back in the apartment I grew up in. The small house held many memories, many good memories, and also equally bad ones.I didn’t want to be here. I didn’t want to remember. But I had to—just this once.Dan was a drunk—just like my mother. He wasn’t the first man she brought into our home, and he certainly wasn’t the last. I always made sure to steer clear of my mother’s 'partners.' So, whenever she came back with one of them, I stayed in my room. Usually, they were gone by morning, and I could go on pretending I didn’t hear all the screams and sex noises. This time was different, though. Dan hadn’t left. He was slouched on the living room couch, watching some boring sport on the old box TV. Two empty beer bottles sat on the table in front of him.He spotted me before I could return back to my room.“Hey there, little angel.” He whispered, his voice soft, but his eyes betrayed that falsity. The wicked look in those brown orbs was difficult to miss. “What’s your
