TESSA’S POV

The feeling was all too familiar.

I’d felt it once before, when Wraith was in a coma—when I didn’t know if he’d survive, or if that would be the last time I saw him. But this was even worse.

The fear I had seen in his eyes was unlike anything I’d ever witnessed. It told me what we were both too afraid to say out loud: there was a chance he might not make it back alive.

No matter how much I tried to stay optimistic, no matter how I tried to stay calm, I couldn’t do it, I couldn’t stop thinking about all the things that could go wrong.

I must have checked the phone he left me at least a thousand times, just to be sure he hadn’t left a message—there were never any messages. Just the home screen staring back at me.

I walked into the bathroom to take a shower—like that would get my mind off him.

I took off my clothes and stepped into the shower enclosure. I let the hot water scald my skin; I needed that pain to feel alive.

I picked up the shampoo, but my shaky hands couldn’t

WRAITH’S POVI pulled up in front of the barn. It was the perfect spot—secluded, surrounded by miles of open farmland. I stared at my phone, aching to hear Tessa’s voice. It took everything in me to resist calling her; I knew she’d be worried, but I couldn’t reach now, not until this was over. Stepping out of the car, I headed inside. Logan was already there, exactly as we’d planned.“Let’s get on with this.” He said, taking out the metal chains, which were designed to look like they were forged from silver. The plan was to give Falcone the impression that I was bound, powerless, and totally at his mercy.“Had he contacted you again?” I questioned.“No. He’s been pretty much silent since I gave him the address.”That didn’t sound right.“Why did you ask?” Logan questioned.“I don’t know. Something feels off.”I couldn’t tell what exactly it was, but I could feel it.Logan’s phone buzzed, and he pulled it out of his pocket; It was Falcone calling—speak of the devil. He picked up the

I awoke with a start. The first thing I noticed was that I was still in the same dress I had on earlier. The second was that my wrist and ankles had been chained. The third was the room I’d been placed in; from the musty and damp smell, I could tell this was an underground building—a lair of some kind.god, my head hurts. Every part of my body hurts.I still remembered the sting when the cloth was pressed to my nose—the sharp, burning smell that tore through my senses. I’d clawed and thrashed until the darkness took over and I lapsed into unconsciousness. He had lied; that wasn’t the “easy” option.“Tessa.” The voice called, and I whipped my head toward the sound so fast it sent a sharp pain through my neck. I recognized that voice.“Bree?” I called back, and then I spotted her, hidden in the shadows. The flickering bulb was the only source of light, and that was barely enough to illuminate the lair. The far corners remained covered in darkness.“Oh my god, Tessa.” And then she was r

TESSA’S POVI picked up the landline and put a call through to the front desk.“Good day, Mrs. Wraith. This is Grace from the receptionist team; how may I help you?”“I discovered the elevator I came through needs a passcode. Do you happen to know it?”There was a short pause. “I’m sorry, ma’am. The private elevator is only used and controlled by The Boss, but you can make use of the regular elevator, if you don’t mind. It’s down the hallway on your left.”“Thank you very much.”“Same, enjoy your day!”With that, I disconnected the line.I followed the receptionist’s direction, and there was indeed an elevator there. I stepped in and selected the last floor. I ran a hand through my hair, trying to keep it from shaking. After receiving the mail, I threw on the first thing I saw — a cream-colored, knee-length gown, and tried using the elevator Wraith and I had come in through, only to find it needed a passcode.Perhaps that was part of the ‘security’ he’d mentioned. The elevator slid op

ALPHA REX’S POVI had spent the whole night out here in the woods, training. I should head back and deal with the files and documents awaiting my signature, but I couldn’t bring myself to leave just yet.A few more minutes, I’d told myself. But minutes turned to hours, and hours to more hours, and still I stood here. The sand-filled punching bag in front of me had been my opponent all night. I’d hit it over and again until the animal skin started to tear and bits of sand spilled out. I moved around it like it was a real enemy, sweat running down my body. Somewhere along the line, I’d taken off my shirt.I unleashed a flurry of punches, then spun into a roundhouse kick. The animal hide finally gave way completely, bursting open and showering me with sand.“Good job, Alpha.” The voice from behind me praised.“Glad you enjoyed the show, Natasha.”She’d been here for at least thirty minutes; I’d heard the footsteps but chose to pay her no heed.“So, about the task you’d assigned me to, I

Logan’s POVThe downtown warehouse had once been one of the Callisters’ biggest income streams, but now it was in ruins.Falcone used to brag that he sold the best crack in town. The place was a notorious drug hub, where illegal substances were moved in bulk to wealthy clients. It was one of the Callisters’ strongest holds over the city and even the key to powerful alliances beyond it.But after the news of Falcone’s death, the warehouse had been looted, perhaps by our own workers or by the clients themselves. Now, all that was left in the warehouse were the cargo shipping containers.I had no idea why Falcone chose this place to meet.“Quite on time,” Falcone commented as he stepped into view from behind one of the cargo containers. He took a drag from whatever he was smoking before tossing it to the ground and crushing it beneath his shoes.I noticed the various bruises marking his face and the slight limp to his movement.“Got into a fight?” I questioned, not bothering to hide my c
