TESSA’S POV

They’d lost the fight because Wraith left the ring to find me.

They’d lost the fight because I couldn’t bear the sight of blood.

Natasha was right, and I wondered if, despite all Angelina and Jake had said in my defense, they were thinking the same thing too.

As I walked through the pack house, heading to Wraith Wing, I became painfully aware of the stares from the pack members that seem to follow my every step—Perhaps they were just looking at me the way they did every other day, but my paranoia had me wondering if they, too, were blaming me for tonight’s failure.

I couldn’t even begin to imagine what would have happened if Wraith hadn’t found me on time. Once again, he’d saved me.

I let out a shaky breath as I headed straight to the shower.

I scrubbed my skin raw, hoping to wash away the memory of Rafaele’s touch. Even the thought of him gave me the chills. When I was finally clean, I put on a bathrobe and walked out of the shower.

‘Meet me in the garden.’I stare at the note, my heart wrenching in my chest. How the hell did I forget about Logan Stormborn and his visit?I had earlier made the decision to keep it from Wraith, but after what happened with Rafaele, I should have informed someone about Logan’s visit. Now he was here again. I knew it was him because it was the very same cursive and neat handwriting that had been used on the previous note. Two days had passed since the fight against the Ironside pack. I was supposed to start my job as a secretary tomorrow, and despite everything that had happened, I was still excited for it, but then I saw the note. This time it had been on the table in the living room. Anyone could have noticed it.Tap, tap, tap.The noise broke me out of my trail of thoughts. It was coming from the window. I walked towards the window and pulled it open, looking outside it. There wasn’t anything out there. I shut the window back in place and turned around only to come face-to-face

TESSA POVI’d seen the black-and-white-furred wolf before. But this time, something was different. It was the rage in its eyes—a look that told me he was out for blood. And suddenly, I wasn’t sure who I should be more afraid of.Rafaele took a step back and then another; fear and surprise flickered across his face. The beast lunged, slamming him to the ground. I watched in horror as its sharp fangs sank into Rafaele’s arm—Someone grabbed me and pulled me away. Jake.I let him lead me out of the restroom and then the arena. When we got outside, Angelina rushed toward me.“Are you alright?” she asked, her face a mix of worry and guilt, and I nodded. I didn’t trust my voice enough to speak.Jake helped me into the limousine, and Angelina followed next.Natasha was already seated in there, a scowl on her face.“Where are the rest?” Angelina asked.“Rex instructed us to take Tessa back to the pack.”Natasha let out a snort.Jake turned to her. “Do you have a problem with that?” he questio

It had taken me twenty minutes to push through the excited crowd and find the restroom.I shut the door behind me, grateful that it muffled some of the noise coming from the Arena, then I hurried into one of the stalls and threw up. I emptied everything I’d eaten, and by the time I was done, my throat felt sore. I stepped out to wash my face at one of the sinks.I stared at my ghostly white face in the mirror. I couldn’t believe Wraith was going to kill him; I couldn’t believe people got excited over something so violent and brutal.I should never have come here, I should have stayed back. But deep down, I knew I wouldn’t have been able to do that, at least not with the knowledge that Wraith was going to be out there, risking his life.I was starting to accept the fact that I would never fit in. I wasn’t like them.Just then, someone walked in. I quickly rinsed my face, hoping to wash away any trace of my tears. In the mirror, I caught a glimpse of the stranger’s lower half. A man.Sh

Even from a distance, I could hear the noise. It was worse when we finally arrived. The arena held hundreds of people — which only made it more unbearable. Our group already had seats reserved in the very front row. Five empty chairs were waiting. Rex sat down first, and everyone else followed.I had never seen werewolves so loud before, and yet I could still tell them apart from the humans. The humans here were completely oblivious to the creatures among them. I couldn’t help but wonder how many werewolves I’d come into close contact with in the past without realizing what they really were.Rex's gaze was pinned at the opposite side of the ring, where another group was seated.“The Ironside Pack.” Angelina said to me. “The huge one is the alpha, and he is a real jackass.” She whispered into my ear.None of the people in the room had any idea what this fight was really about. They didn’t know that the two pack representatives present were the main players — and everyone else present w

I couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was about to go very wrong.I pulled on a pair of jeans and a black shirt, then threw my hair into a quick bun. I was ready even before Angelina walked in. She was dressed in black ripped jeans and a leather jacket. After giving my outfit a once-over, she disappeared into my closet and returned with a jacket similar to hers.“Put this on.” She said, tossing it to me. I caught it and quickly shrugged it on; she finally nodded. “Perfect.”I tried giving a smile, but I couldn’t muster up even a fake one. As the hours passed by, I couldn’t help but feel more unsettled by the whole idea. Everyoneelse seemed excited, though, including Angelina; that should’ve been reassuring, and yet, it wasn’t.“You have nothing to worry about, Tessa. I know you’re not used to all these, but Wraith is really good. He has faced worse opponents, and yet he’s never been defeated.”“But Rex said this one was a worthy opponent. Shouldn’t we be worried?”“Scar is
