Lyla

I had been healing for long enough now. I'd been inside Travis' house for two weeks with him hovering over me like and overprotective mother and it was starting to make me antsy. This little house was starting to feel like a cage and I was starting to feel a lot better. My headaches were gone and, other than the occassional twinge, my leg wasn't hurting anymore. I had started absolutely refusing the vicodin Travis would try to give me whenever he thought I even had a little pain and asked for ibuprofen instead. I know he didn't understand my aversion to the pain medication, but regardless, I didn't need them anymore.

Although, now that I was remembering when we were in the hospital I recalled having the flash back of Paul shoving drugs down my throat forcibly and every awful thing that followed while Travis was standing there. He'd had an odd look on his face that was a mixture of rage and profound sorrow that I didn't understand at the time, but knowing what he was now, I guess

  • The Beta's Heart   The Alpha's Investigation

JacksonFinishing up the meeting with Travis, I knew it was time to take action. Red Moon needed to be taken down. I had seen the children in Alpha Mya's thoughts. I knew exactly where the children had escaped from. I had known Alpha Edward and Luna Jessica since his father had died and handed the pack to him. His father had been just as cruel but my own father had never been able to directly tie him to any crimes. He was very savvy that way. Alpha Edward, however, was not a smart man. He did everything his Luna told him to do and she was even more shallow and cruel than he was. Their daughter Theresa had been raised to believe that she was above everyone else. They had never taught her the proper respect for other Alpha's or their packs. Knowing how devious these people were, I had been secretly gathering evidence against Theresa for some time. I had pictures of her with many other wolves and they weren't flattering to her. When she had started focusing in on me after Alpha Dane had

  • The Beta's Heart   Connecting the Dots

Travis"We need to make sure that Lyla is protected." I told Jackson the next day. I had linked him as soon as I had gotten up the next morning after finally agreeing with Midnight about Lyla getting her justice. I would agree with him, but my being there was part of that agreement. "I will always be with mate." He told me sourly. "I would not let her face danger alone." he was insulted that I would even hint at it."I know, bud." I tried to calm him. "I never thought you would. I just want to make sure that if anyone or anything gets past us, we have it covered. We can't risk her."Jackson had been listening to our exchange and he nodded solemnly. "She will have our best warriors with her." He vowed. "She will not face this alone. Midnight is right. She deserves her justice and those women and children deserve an actual life."I blew out a breath, relieved. Of course Jackson would make sure she was safe. He took care of all the members of his pack. He was a great Alpha, worth follow

  • The Beta's Heart   The Women's Tribunal

LylaTravis was fuming. He didn't like me wanting to leave the Forest Moon for any reason, but least of all to get my justice against Julian and his disgusting operation. I stood watching him storm around our little house raving about how I was expected to stay safe and stay there. My arms were crossed over my chest as I calmly watched him rave. When he finally ran out of steam, he sank down into his easy chair with a huff.I crouched beside him and touched his arm. I could feel his body start to calm at my touch. The mate bond always had that affect on both of us. "I know you want to protect me." I told him softly. "But I deserve my justice, isn't that what you said?" I threw his words back at him and he flinched knowing it was true. "Baby, there are so many more girls and little kids that are suffering the way that I did. I can't just let that happen. I have to do something. What kind of person would I be to just ignore that?"I watched his lips press together as he suppressed what

  • The Beta's Heart   Liam Wakes Up

JulianI stood over Liam wrinkling my nose in disgust. I had him thrown into one of my many cells in my basement onto a dirty cot and the smell was atrocious! The women and children in the other cells were backed completely up to the walls in terror. They cowered there with the few children I had in their arms, like they could protect them from me.Not in this lifetime, you little bitches. But right now I had to deal with my pathetic employee. The women, naked and shaking, just whimpered as I stared down at Liam. They knew that if one of my employees was thrown into my dungeon, as I liked to call it, they were there to be tortured and killed. They knew they had failed me somehow.I did this on purpose. I could easily take him to another location and get my answers, but I did it here with these women and children as witnesses so they would know not to step out of line. It had always been the most effective way to keep them all in line. Show them what could happen to them, and they'd do

  • The Beta's Heart   Lyla's Day Out

LylaI was feeling much stronger now and for the last couple of days, Janice had been coming by to get me for walks around the small town. We went to shops and bakeries and boutiques, at one point even the elementary school. I was introduced to everyone in town that happened to walk past us on the cobblestone pathways between the shops and other businesses. The day was sunny and warm and the air smelled sweet. It was a great day for a walk!Janice filled me in on pack gossip and current events going on in the town. Apparantly the high school kids were teaming with another pack's high school to put on a play at the end of the week and the kids were buzzing with excitement. I found myself smiling at everything she was telling me.It felt so right here and I was realizing how happy I had become. As we settled onto benches to eat ice cream cones outside an ice cream shop, Janice told me about her life. Her mate was a man named Carl who was one of the elite warriors for the pack. They had

  • The Beta's Heart   The Sun Pack's Alpha

TravisA meeting had been called. Jackson had called me to what he called a 'private' meeting with the Sun Pack's Alpha, Mya. She had been the Luna of the pack, but her mate had been killed during a border dispute with the Red Moon Pack. No one had gotten all the details of what had happened that night, but we had suspected that the Alpha of the Red Moon Pack had ordered Alpha Dane's murder and presented it as a border dispute. In reality, Jackson had suspected that it was actually over Red Moon's Alpha's daughter who had secretly wanted to be with Alpha Dane but had been overlooked because he'd found his mate in Mya. I certainly believed that they were capable of doing such a horrible thing over such a spoiled girl. Jackson and I had suspected them of many crimes but we'd always lacked the proof to prove it. Theresa was ruthless when it came to something she wanted and if she couldn't have it, well no one could.Mya had almost not survived her mates death, but since they'd had no chi
