MasukTravis
I brought Lyla back to my small one bedroom home later that day. They gave her crutches but I just picked her up and carried her all the way. I'd get the crutches later. I walked through town with her in my arms and a blanket wrapped around her since she had only had on destroyed pajamas when we'd found her. She looked at all the buildings, shops, and homes that we walked past with curiosity in her eyes but didn't question me about any of them. Most of the wolves that were walking through town had stopped to stare, but I didn't care. They knew she was human, they could smell it, but they weren't disgusted by her, they were merely curious. I could hear their questions in my head.
"Where did you find her?"
"Is she your mate?"
"Wow! A human! I can't wait to ask her about humans!"
No one acted like they thought she was a sub species, only a curiosity of a world they knew very little about. I couldn't blame them. I wanted to know everything too, but I had to be patient, and so did they.
She hadn't noticed them staring because she was too busy looking around at the town. Forest Moon was clean and always bustling with our pack. The schools were always filled with children's laughter and the shops were filled with people, It was a booming town, to put it in human terms. We were very proud of what had been built here.
I reached my house quickly and shouldered open the door, closing it with my foot and setting her down on my over sized couch. I grabbed some pillows and propped her broken leg up. "Since you've been in bed for so long, I figured you'd want to sit on the couch for a while."
She smiled a little. "Thank you." She said. "I do."
I felt Midnight's tail start wagging in my mind. She already had him acting like a lap dog.
Like I was any better.
"Are you in pain?" I asked her. "Doctor Allan said any pain at all and you should take a vicodin so you can rest."
"I'm fine."
I quirked an eyebrow at her. I knew she was lying. She didn't know it yet, but I could feel what she was feeling. The mate bond, though I'd heard from stories of other human mates, wasn't usually as strong before they were marked, but she was just different. In every way.
She rolled her eyes. "Fine. I have a bit of a headache." I looked at the bandage on her head, just above her temple. She looked a lot better than the first time I had seen her. Her color was no longer pale, it was an ivory tinged with pink. Her black hair now shined since the hospital staff had bathed and washed her hair while she'd been unconscious. The scratches on her face were starting to heal and her busted lip had scabbed over. The swelling had gone down in her nose to show the small, adorable tilt to it. Her cheekbone still had a faint bruise, but wasn't swollen like it had been.
I walked swiftly to my little kitchen, silently thanking Anna for the clean dishes, and grabbed a glass of water. Pulling the vicodin bottle out of my pocket, I opened it and took one out. I walked back to Lyla and handed her the pill, waited as she put it in her mouth, then handed her the water. She quickly swallowed the pill and handed the glass back to me.
"Thank you." She said, then snuggled herself into the couch to get comfortable.
I put the glass on the counter and sat in my easy chair, the one I liked to watch tv in and turned to her. "You can rest now, Lyla." I told her softly. "I promise you are safe here."
I could see her confusion. I had heard her thoughts as she was waiting for the pill. She had been having flash backs of that bastard shoving pills down her throat and forcing her to swallow them. I didn't see what the outcome of that was, but from what she was feeling while remembering it, it was pretty horrific.
That was when the guilt set in. I had killed him in my rage. I had selfishly taken away her closure, as she'd said. She had deserved her justice and I had stolen it from her.
"I'm sorry." I said quietly.
She frowned. "For what?"
"For taking away your justice. You were right. I took away your closure and I'm sorry."
She looked stunned. Of all the things I could have said to her, I doubted she ever thought I would say that.
"When I saw you there, the only thing I could think of was that he needed to pay for what he'd done to you. That I had to make him feel the fear that you had felt." I told her quietly. "He felt the fear, all right. He wet himself right there. Then, I made sure he knew I was going for the kill and that bastard... he told me to kill you instead." I ground my teeth together trying to control my anger. "I couldn't let him live after that. But it was wrong. I should have let you have your justice."
When I finally stopped talking, she just stared at me. Then, a huge smile lit her beautiful face. "He wet himself?" She whispered, and I realized she was trying not to laugh.
I let out a relieved chuckle. "Yeah. He was really a coward. Probably didn't feel too good on his torn balls."
Though I couldn't give her back the justice I had taken from her, I could at least tell her about the humiliation and suffering that I caused him on her behalf. I didn't know if it would help give her closure, but it was certainly worth a try.
JacksonFinishing up the meeting with Travis, I knew it was time to take action. Red Moon needed to be taken down. I had seen the children in Alpha Mya's thoughts. I knew exactly where the children had escaped from. I had known Alpha Edward and Luna Jessica since his father had died and handed the pack to him. His father had been just as cruel but my own father had never been able to directly tie him to any crimes. He was very savvy that way. Alpha Edward, however, was not a smart man. He did everything his Luna told him to do and she was even more shallow and cruel than he was. Their daughter Theresa had been raised to believe that she was above everyone else. They had never taught her the proper respect for other Alpha's or their packs. Knowing how devious these people were, I had been secretly gathering evidence against Theresa for some time. I had pictures of her with many other wolves and they weren't flattering to her. When she had started focusing in on me after Alpha Dane had
Travis"We need to make sure that Lyla is protected." I told Jackson the next day. I had linked him as soon as I had gotten up the next morning after finally agreeing with Midnight about Lyla getting her justice. I would agree with him, but my being there was part of that agreement. "I will always be with mate." He told me sourly. "I would not let her face danger alone." he was insulted that I would even hint at it."I know, bud." I tried to calm him. "I never thought you would. I just want to make sure that if anyone or anything gets past us, we have it covered. We can't risk her."Jackson had been listening to our exchange and he nodded solemnly. "She will have our best warriors with her." He vowed. "She will not face this alone. Midnight is right. She deserves her justice and those women and children deserve an actual life."I blew out a breath, relieved. Of course Jackson would make sure she was safe. He took care of all the members of his pack. He was a great Alpha, worth follow
LylaTravis was fuming. He didn't like me wanting to leave the Forest Moon for any reason, but least of all to get my justice against Julian and his disgusting operation. I stood watching him storm around our little house raving about how I was expected to stay safe and stay there. My arms were crossed over my chest as I calmly watched him rave. When he finally ran out of steam, he sank down into his easy chair with a huff.I crouched beside him and touched his arm. I could feel his body start to calm at my touch. The mate bond always had that affect on both of us. "I know you want to protect me." I told him softly. "But I deserve my justice, isn't that what you said?" I threw his words back at him and he flinched knowing it was true. "Baby, there are so many more girls and little kids that are suffering the way that I did. I can't just let that happen. I have to do something. What kind of person would I be to just ignore that?"I watched his lips press together as he suppressed what
JulianI stood over Liam wrinkling my nose in disgust. I had him thrown into one of my many cells in my basement onto a dirty cot and the smell was atrocious! The women and children in the other cells were backed completely up to the walls in terror. They cowered there with the few children I had in their arms, like they could protect them from me.Not in this lifetime, you little bitches. But right now I had to deal with my pathetic employee. The women, naked and shaking, just whimpered as I stared down at Liam. They knew that if one of my employees was thrown into my dungeon, as I liked to call it, they were there to be tortured and killed. They knew they had failed me somehow.I did this on purpose. I could easily take him to another location and get my answers, but I did it here with these women and children as witnesses so they would know not to step out of line. It had always been the most effective way to keep them all in line. Show them what could happen to them, and they'd do
LylaI was feeling much stronger now and for the last couple of days, Janice had been coming by to get me for walks around the small town. We went to shops and bakeries and boutiques, at one point even the elementary school. I was introduced to everyone in town that happened to walk past us on the cobblestone pathways between the shops and other businesses. The day was sunny and warm and the air smelled sweet. It was a great day for a walk!Janice filled me in on pack gossip and current events going on in the town. Apparantly the high school kids were teaming with another pack's high school to put on a play at the end of the week and the kids were buzzing with excitement. I found myself smiling at everything she was telling me.It felt so right here and I was realizing how happy I had become. As we settled onto benches to eat ice cream cones outside an ice cream shop, Janice told me about her life. Her mate was a man named Carl who was one of the elite warriors for the pack. They had
TravisA meeting had been called. Jackson had called me to what he called a 'private' meeting with the Sun Pack's Alpha, Mya. She had been the Luna of the pack, but her mate had been killed during a border dispute with the Red Moon Pack. No one had gotten all the details of what had happened that night, but we had suspected that the Alpha of the Red Moon Pack had ordered Alpha Dane's murder and presented it as a border dispute. In reality, Jackson had suspected that it was actually over Red Moon's Alpha's daughter who had secretly wanted to be with Alpha Dane but had been overlooked because he'd found his mate in Mya. I certainly believed that they were capable of doing such a horrible thing over such a spoiled girl. Jackson and I had suspected them of many crimes but we'd always lacked the proof to prove it. Theresa was ruthless when it came to something she wanted and if she couldn't have it, well no one could.Mya had almost not survived her mates death, but since they'd had no chi
