Eli’s POV

I didn’t remember leaving the party.

One moment, I was standing in a large hall that felt so bright, too loud- people clapping, voices overlapping, eyes on me in a way that made my skin crawl.

The next, I was outside.

Cold air hit my face brutally, sharp enough to cut through the noise in my head but it didn’t bring clarity. If anything it made the silence worse.

My chest felt so tight like something inside of me had been squeezed and refused to release.

“Sera Voss”, I muttered silently.

The name replayed in my head over and over again refusing to settle into something that is understandable.

There is no way that woman standing there is the princess of the Voss palace, the heir and also the fiancée of the continental alpha.

I dragged my hand down my face exhaling slowly.

“Eli”, Mira’s voice came behind me and I didn’t even turn to look at her.

“Eli”, she repeated, closer this time. “Why aren’t you reacting?”

I let out a short, humorless breath as I glanced back at her.

“Reacting to what?” I asked. “To fact that my-“, I stopped myself, my jaw tightened. “The fact that she’s standing in the room like she owns it?” my voice sounded so aggressive.

Mira studied me, her reaction unreadable in the dim light outside the venue.

“You’re shaken”, she said simply.

“No, I’m not. I’m thinking”, I corrected.

“About her”

That word landed heavier than it should have.

Mira stepped closer, her heels clicking softly against the ground.

“You’re not the only one that saw what happened there”, she said while holding eyes with me. “Everybody did”.

“Good”, I muttered. “Then I’m not losing my mind”

Because that was what I felt like. Like reality shifted when I wasn’t looking, and now I was the only one standing in the wrong version of it.

“It is a lie”, I said suddenly, the thought snapping into place. “The whole announcement- there’s no way-“

“Lied about what?”, Mira cut in abruptly. “Her name? Her status? The fact that she’s engaged to the most powerful Alpha in the continent?” Her voice was very loud now.

I frowned,” That’s not what I mean”

“Then explain it”

I opened my mouth and closed it again. Because I couldn’t explain clearly in a way that made sense without sounding like a fool.

“She’s not-“, I exhaled sharply. “She’s not supposed to be there”

Mira tilted her head slightly, “But she is”.

I turned away from her and walked back into the hall filled with people clapping and beaming with smiles.

I looked around and I saw Sera walking hand in hand with her supposed fiancée. My thoughts kept circling back to her.

The way she spoke.

The way she stood.

The way she didn’t look at me the way she used to.

That thought irritated me more than anything else.

The memory of that night resurfaced uninvited.

Sera was standing in the kitchen, her voice steady and she left the kitchen without pleading and hesitation. Just clear exit.

“Eli”, Mira said quietly beside me. “We have to restrategise. Sera is now the fiancée of the continental Alpha-“she paused and looked at me.

“We should do something to spoil her reputation. Remember we have a deal to finalize with the Alpha”

I looked at her like I was unsure of what to say.

“We shouldn’t do that”, I muttered silently, like I was tired of everything going on here.

“Oh,” Mira laughed. “We should and we will” Mira said and picked a glass of wine from one of the passing waiters with a smile plastered on her face.

“She left that night without arguments”, she said suddenly lowering the wine glass from her lips. “What if she left because she knew something you didn’t?”

The question lingered in the air, uncomfortable, unfinished.

“What are you implying”, I asked.

Mira didn’t reply me immediately.

“What if”, she said finally, “she left because she was already pregnant?”

The words hit me like a physical blow and I froze.

For a moment, everything went still.

The noise of the people behind us.

The distant movement of the people and even the wind seemed to fade.

‘…. No”, I said, but my voice sounded distant, like I was unsure of what I am about to say.

“She would have said something”, I added quickly. “She wouldn’t just-“

The silence that followed was louder than anything else. Because now, my memory was working against me.

Replaying every interaction.

Every argument.

Every moment I had dismissed her.

Every time I had made her feel small.

Every time she had asked me to see her and I hasn’t.

My stomach twisted.

“No”, I said again, shaking my head slightly with a firm voice. “That’s not possible”

Mira stepped closer.

“Eli”, she said carefully, “When exactly did she leave?”

I didn’t reply immediately because I remembered that part clearly.

The night she left

The argument

Her voice raising for the first time.

“Right after our anniversary”, I finally replied.

“And how long as things been off between you two before that?”

I looked at her like I was getting annoyed with her questions but the truth was unavoidable.

Long before that night, there were moments where she looked like she wanted to say something but she didn’t

“How long?” Mila pressed again

“A while”, I admitted.

Mira nodded once.

“That’s it”, she smiled.

The words were simple but they carried too much weight.

My thoughts began to shift again trying to make sense of something that suddenly didn’t feel as straightforward as it had before.

My chest tightened painfully.

“No,” I said again. “That doesn’t make sense”.

But even as I said it, doubt crept in because there was one thing I couldn’t ignore anymore.

The children.

The two boys that had been hanging around her since the beginning of the event.

They were around six years old.

And for the first time since that night- a thought formed in my mind that I couldn’t push away.

One that made my pulse quicken.

One that I hadn’t considered before.

“….. They could be mine”.

The words left my mouth before I could stop them.

  • The Beta's Regret: ONCE REJECTED, NOW MY EX'S QUEEN    CHAPTER EIGHY-ONE

Dorian’s POV After so much back and forth in the council chamber, we ended the meeting. The meeting did not end with agreement and it didn’t end with resolution. It ended with something I would consider dangerous and sensitive. While in the meeting, the council members and I had argued and still no solution was found because I won’t agree to the release of Caden not after the chaos he has caused. “We have to reschedule this meeting”, one of the members said while raising up his hand when the heat in the room was getting too intense. “We need more time to think and look for the appropriate solution”, he added. “That’s right. I agree”, another one said. And since I was already getting tired and fed up with the drama in the room, I agreed immediately without even giving it a proper thought. “That is right. We will be having this meeting again in two days”, I said as I brushed my hands through my hair because I was frustrated. “Two days and be ready to give up the position of the act

  • The Beta's Regret: ONCE REJECTED, NOW MY EX'S QUEEN    CHAPTER EIGHTY

A few days before the council meeting with DorainCaden’s POVPrison was never meant to hold me, and every second I remained behind these walls only strengthened the certainty that this was temporary, because power like mine was not erased by iron bars or locked doors, it only waited, watched, and chose the right moment to return. The cell was quiet, but I was not.I sat against the cold wall with my head tilted slightly back, my eyes half closed not from rest but from calculation, because while the palace above continued to pretend that control had shifted, I knew better than to believe that anything had truly changed.Power had not left me.It had simply moved out of sight. And now—It was time to take it back.My fingers tightened slightly around the small device hidden beneath the folds of my sleeve, the weight of it insignificant compared to what it represented, because getting a phone into this cell had not been easy, and the guard who smuggled it in had done so with shaking han

  • The Beta's Regret: ONCE REJECTED, NOW MY EX'S QUEEN    CHAPTER SEVENTY-NINE

Dorian’s POVI did not reconsider my position, and I did not soften my tone, because the moment the council made it clear that they intended to reinstate Caden, I understood that this was no longer a discussion about stability but a calculated attempt to shift power away from me.“I will not authorize his release,” I said, my voice steady and controlled, even as I felt the shift in the room grow heavier with every second that passed.Silence followed, but it was not the kind that came from uncertainty; it was the kind that came from resistance.Several members of the council exchanged glances, subtle at first, but deliberate enough to confirm what I had already begun to suspect, and then one of them leaned forward slightly, his fingers interlocked on the table as his gaze settled on me with a firmness that bordered on challenge.“You may not have the authority to refuse,” he said.I held his gaze without flinching, because if there was one thing I would not allow in this room, it was

  • The Beta's Regret: ONCE REJECTED, NOW MY EX'S QUEEN    CHAPTER SEVENTY-EIGHT

Sera’s POVIt’s just barely thirty minutes that Dorian left and I couldn’t convince myself to stay in that room. The moment Dorian left, the silence he left behind did not calm me; it pressed in on me, thick and suffocating, filling the space with everything I was trying not to think about, everything I had just seen, everything I had just heard, and most of all, everything I had felt in that prison.Because it was not just what she said.It was not just how she looked. It was what happened inside me when I looked at her. That was what I could not ignore.I stood in the middle of the room, my fingers curled slightly at my sides, my breathing uneven despite how still I tried to remain, because the more I replayed it in my head, the more something twisted in my chest in a way I did not understand. She looked like me.That alone should have been enough to dismiss her.But it was not just the resemblance. It was the recognition. Not from my mind. From something deeper.Something instinct

  • The Beta's Regret: ONCE REJECTED, NOW MY EX'S QUEEN    CHAPTER SEVENTY-SEVEN

Dorian’s POVI should not have left her. That thought stayed with me from the moment I stepped out of the room, closing the door behind me with more restraint than I felt, because everything in me resisted walking away from her in that state, yet responsibility had a way of dragging me where I did not want to go, and right now responsibility had my name tied to it more tightly than ever before.Sera’s face did not leave my mind. Not the way she looked at that woman. Not the way her voice shifted when she said you are not my mother even though doubt had already begun creeping into her tone. Not the way her body stilled like something inside her had recognized a truth her mind refused to accept. And worst of all—Not the way that woman smiled.I walked down the corridor toward my office with controlled steps, but the control was surface-level, because beneath it my thoughts were restless, sharp, circling the same problem from every possible angle without landing on a solution.Everythin

  • The Beta's Regret: ONCE REJECTED, NOW MY EX'S QUEEN    CHAPTER SEVENTY-SIX

Sera’s POVThe words didn’t leave the room immediately. They stayed.Hanging in the air like something alive.Something heavy.Something that refused to be ignored.Someone that claims to be her Majesty’s real mother is currently in the palace.I didn’t move.Neither did Dorian. For a moment—no, longer than a moment—we just stood there, staring at the guard like he had said something we couldn’t process. My mind didn’t reject it. That would have been easier.Instead, it tried to understand it.And that made it worse.Because there was only one thought repeating in my head, over and over again—Louder with every second that passed.Another one?And this only means another chaos is about to happen in the palace. I swallowed slowly and my throat felt dry. Dorian’s presence beside me grounded me just enough to breathe.“Where is she?” I asked. My voice didn’t sound like mine. I don’t even know if I have the strength to handle whatever is going to happen in the palace right now. The guar
