Ava didn't hesitate. She shoved Dominic’s chest, stumbling back as if she’d been struck, her breath coming in ragged, shallow hitches. By the time Dominic father stepped onto the balcony, a single, perfect tear was already tracking down her cheek.

“He wouldn’t stop,” she whispered, her voice trembling with a fragility that made Dominic’s blood run cold. “I told him I wasn’t interested, sir. I told him to let me go.”

The silence that followed was heavy, broken only by the sharp, stinging crack of George’s, Dominic’s father palm connecting with Dominic’s cheek. The force snapped Dominic’s head to the side.

“I raised you better than this,” George roared, his face mottled with a sudden, dark fury. “A man who doesn't understand the word ‘no’ is no son of mine.”

Dominic’s jaw flexed, his nostrils flaring as he slowly turned his head back to face his father. The red mark on his skin was already darkening. “You’re choosing to believe a woman you’ve never met over me? Look at her, She’s a serpent.”

“We all saw it, Dom,” Silas interjected from the doorway, leaning against the frame with a smirk that didn't reach his eyes. “You were practically wearing her. It wasn’t a pretty look.”

“Shut your mouth, Silas,” Dominic hissed.

George ignored him, stepping toward Ava with a softened expression. “Are you alright, dear? Did he hurt you?”

Ava pulled her wrap tighter around her shoulders, her fingers shaking. She looked down at her feet, playing the part of the shattered innocent to perfection. “My wrist hurts. I told him… I’ve never been with anyone like that. I wanted to save everything for my husband. My first kiss was supposed to mean something, and he just… he took it.”

Dominic’s eyes nearly bulged. The audacity of the lie was so profound it left him momentarily speechless. “You’re a pathological liar,” he finally managed, his voice a low, dangerous growl as he took a step toward her. “How dare you? We both know—”

“That’s enough!” George stepped between them, his hand held up like a shield. “Look at the girl. She’s terrified. Did you come here with anyone?”

Ava shook her head slowly, a stray sob escaping her throat.

“Wait,” Silas started, his tone shifting to something more mocking. “Are you saying the great Dominic took a girl's virtue on a balcony? That’s low even for you, brother.”

“I said enough,” George snapped. The patriarch reached into his pocket and pulled out a heavy, embossed business card, pressing it into Ava’s hand. “I won’t have a scene at this gala. Come to my office tomorrow morning at ten. I will decide how we’re going to settle this. Silas, walk her to one of the drivers. Ensure she gets home safely.”

Silas straightened up, gesturing for Ava to follow him. As she passed Dominic, the sobbing stopped for a fraction of a second. She tilted her head, her gaze meeting his with a faint, razor sharp smirk, a silent victory that only he could see. Then, as quickly as it appeared, it was gone, replaced by the mask of a victim.

Dominic watched her disappear into the light of the ballroom, his hands clenched into white knuckled fists.

“Son, the disappointment I feel right now…” George shook his head, looking at Dominic as if he were a stranger.

“It was a setup, Father. Every word out of her mouth was a calculated lie. I didn't touch her.”

“I saw you pressed against her with my own eyes,” George countered, his voice weary but firm. “We’ll finish this tomorrow. Mr. Hamilton just arrived, and I have a reputation to salvage. Fix your face and get inside.”

The informant sounded uncharacteristically hesitant, his words uncertain."I couldn’t gather much, Boss," the man admitted, his voice crackling with static. "It’s as if her history has been scrubbed clean. There are no school records that stick, no digital footprint beyond the last few years. But from what I’ve observed... I don't think she’s a bad lady. She doesn't fit the profile of a professional plant."Dominic’s jaw tightened, his eyes fixing on his own reflection in the darkened window. "You wouldn’t know that," he argued, his voice a low. "In my world, the ones who look the most innocent are usually the ones holding the knife. Lack of a record isn't a sign of goodness, it’s a sign of a very talented handler.""I’ll keep digging, Boss," the man promised. "There has to be a thread somewhere.""You better do that," Dominic snapped. He ended the call with a sharp flick of his thumb and tossed the phone onto the bed. He needed a shower to wash off the grime of the warehouse and the

The red Ferrari was a blur of crimson against the grey asphalt of the city. She spent the afternoon drifting through high end boutiques and doing some food stuff shopping. Her final stop was the Dior boutique, where the air was filled with the cloying sweetness of expensive blossoms and the hushed tones of the elite. She selected a few bottles of perfume and a sleek gold-cased makeup kit, her movements fluid and detached. As she reached the counter, the young woman ringing up the items paused, her eyes lingering on the diamond band on Ava’s finger and the expensive lines of her silhouette."You have such exquisite taste," the clerk murmured, a trace of envy coloring her professional smile. "It’s truly inspiring to see young ladies like yourself finding such success so early in life."Ava leaned in over the glass counter, the scent of the perfumes she’d just sampled clinging to her skin. A small, sharp smile played on her lips. "I’m not successful," she whispered, her voice dropping in

The following morning, the estate was bathed in a deceptive, quiet gold. Ava descended the grand staircase, the hem of her silk nightgown brushing against the cold marble. She found Dominic in the foyer, the sharp lines of his charcoal suit a stark contrast to the soft morning light. He was the picture of lethal composure, adjusting his cuffs with a precision that made her skin prickle."Good morning," Ava said, her voice sounding thin in the echoing space.Dominic didn’t look up immediately. He finished with his cufflink before his gaze drifted toward her. He raked his eyes over her—not with the heat of the previous night, but with a cold, analytical detachment that felt far more dangerous. It was the look of a man checking a perimeter for weaknesses. Without a word of greeting, he turned to the men flanking the door, barking a series of low, sharp orders that sent them into immediate, silent motion. As he reached for the brass handle of the front door, Ava took a step forward. "Will

The drive back home from the warehouse was a blur of rain-slicked pavement and the low hum of the Mercedes. Dominic gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles white against the leather. The exhaustion was more than physical. The crisis at the docks had been handled with his usual ruthless way but the silence of the night allowed the image of Ava’s defiant face to seep back into his mind.He pulled into the garage of the estate, the engine cutting out with a final sigh. As he stepped out, the cool night air hit him hard. His security detail emerged from the perimeter, their movements synchronized and silent."Guard the gates," Dominic commanded, his voice raspy from a night of barking orders. He paused, his gaze flickering toward the darkened windows of the upper floor. "Keep a sharp eye on any movement. That includes my wife. If she so much as breathes like a threat, I want to know."The men exchanged a fleeting, puzzled look—a silent communication between partners. It was an unusual di

Ava stood frozen under the spray, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. Then, she heard it, the distinct, heavy click of the bedroom door settling into its frame. She reached out with a trembling hand and wrenched the handle, killing the flow of water instantly. The sudden silence was deafening, broken only by the frantic thrumming in her ears. She waited, lungs burning as she held her breath, listening for the sound of a footstep or the rustle of a heavy coat. When nothing came, she crept to the bathroom door and peeked into the bedroom. The room was empty. The air felt disturbed, as if someone had recently occupied the space, but the predator had moved on. Ava let out a long, shuddering sigh of relief that collapsed into a sob she quickly suppressed. She wrapped a plush towel tightly around her shivering frame, her skin still prickling from the adrenaline of their earlier confrontation. She reached for her phone, her fingers slick with moisture. With a shaky thu

Ava stiffened, her lungs seizing as she drew in a ragged, shallow breath. "You must be out of your mind!" she roared, the sound tearing from her throat in a rasp. She lunged for the door, her fingers clawing at the polished wood, desperate for the hallway, for the street, for anywhere that wasn't here. But the exit was a mile away in her mind, and Dominic was a shadow that moved faster than light. His hands, large and unyielding, clamped around her waist. He hoisted her off her feet with a grunt of exertion, ignoring her frantic squirming, and threw her onto the expansive silk duvet. He wasn't violent, the landing was cushioned but the indignity of it sparked a fire in her blood."You bastard!" she screamed, her voice cracking as she scrambled to find her footing on the shifting mattress.Dominic stood at the foot of the bed, a pillar of cold, hard certainty. He didn't flinch at the insult. Instead, he began to undo his tie with a slow grace that made Ava’s skin crawl. The silk slid
