Myra's P.O.V.

I returned to my desk, but instead of focusing on the pile of files waiting for me, my thoughts drifted back to the blonde woman currently sitting in Jade's office.

The way she had marched into his office without waiting for permission was still fresh in my mind. She hadn't cared that he was in the middle of a conference call or that I'd asked her to wait. She had simply brushed past me like I was some inconvenient pest.

And strangely enough, Jade hadn't seemed surprised to see her. A thought quietly crossed my mind.

Was she perhaps his girlfriend?

I pursed my lips before shaking my head.

What was I even thinking?

Whether Jade was dating someone or not wasn't any of my concern. I had far more important things occupying my mind than trying to figure out my boss's or one-night stand's relationship status.

For example, finding a way to completely destroy my ex-husband's life.

My chest tightened at the thought of him. Even though I was trying my best to be strong these past few weeks, it still hurt.

I had trusted him with everything I had, only for him to throw our marriage away like it meant absolutely nothing, and to make me feel like I wasn't worth looking at just because I wasn't what he would call "the proper size."

That was a phrase he would sometimes use to degrade me during our small arguments throughout the year.

Maybe I really was a fool for not seeing the signs back then, that he hated me. He'd always hated me; I was just blind to it until he said it to my face.

Worse still, the woman I had welcomed into our home, cooked for, laughed with, and treated like family had been his fiancée all along.

A bitter smile tugged at my lips, thinking of all the horrible things I had gone through and lost.

If they thought that was the end of me, they were terribly mistaken.

My phone suddenly rang on my desk, interrupting my thoughts. I glanced at the screen before answering.

"Hello, Collins," I said, keeping my voice steady.

"Myra," Collins, my longtime friend who was also Vincent's secretary, beamed from the other end.

He was one of the only few people I could fully trust. I had told him about my plan to completely dismantle Vincent's life, and he was on board with me.

"I have some good news," he announced.

I immediately sat up straighter.

"What is it?" I asked, filled with curiosity.

"I found something on Vincent, just like I said I would," he replied confidently.

"You did?" My pulse quickened.

"Yes. It appears he's been involved in some illegal business dealings. He's been siphoning the company's money out secretly under the guise of some shell business deals."

My brows knitted together. "Illegal dealings? What kind?"

"I'm still trying to figure that out," he admitted. "The information is incomplete, but I thought you should know."

A frown settled on my face.

"So you don't know exactly what he's involved in yet?" I pressed, unable to hide my frustration.

"Not yet. But I will keep digging. The moment I find something concrete, you'll be the first to know."

I let out a slow breath.

"Thank you, Collins," I murmured.

"You're going to bring him down and make him pay for what he did."

"I hope so." My spirit lifted just enough to feel the optimistic energy Collins wanted me to feel.

"I'll call you again once I have more."

"I'll be waiting," I replied softly before ending the call.

The call ended, and I lowered my phone onto the desk, my thoughts immediately returning to Vincent.

Illegal business dealings?

I couldn't help but think back to all the strange things he'd done during our marriage.

The countless business trips that seemed to come out of nowhere. The late-night phone calls he'd always step outside to answer.

As well as the safe in his study that remained locked at all times, one he never allowed me to touch.

Back then, I'd convinced myself it was simply because he was a CEO and those trips were all business related.

Then, after discovering Janice, I'd assumed it was all because he was hiding his affair with her from me. But now I was beginning to wonder if there had been something much bigger hidden behind all those secrets.

Just then, the sound of heels clicking against the polished floor pulled me from my thoughts.

I looked up to see Daniela walking out from the direction of Jade's office.

She spared me a brief glance before looking away, her expression as smug as ever, and continued toward the elevators without saying a word.

Oddly enough, I didn't care about her, not one bit.

My mind was too occupied trying to piece together everything Collins had just told me.

What exactly had Vincent been involved in?

I was too swamped with work to even take my lunch break. Well into the afternoon, I was about to stop for a coffee break when the telephone on my desk rang.

I exhaled tiredly and returned to answer the call.

"Come to my office now," Jade said curtly. He hung up before I could respond.

I slowly lowered the receiver and glanced at the file lying on my desk. I'd planned to submit it later that afternoon anyway, so I picked it up and made my way toward his office. My coffee break would have to wait.

After knocking once, I pushed the door open.

"You asked to see me, sir?" I asked, stepping inside.

Jade looked up from fastening the button of his suit jacket.

He was already on his feet, while Brandon stood a short distance away with his tablet in hand. From the looks of it, they were about to leave, probably for the lunch meeting.

"Yes," Jade replied.

I walked farther inside.

"Will I be accompanying you to the lunch meeting, sir?" I asked.

He shook his head once.

"No. Brandon will be coming with me. I actually need a favor from you," he said, gesturing toward his desk.

Several files were scattered across its polished surface, some stacked neatly while others looked as though they'd been tossed aside in the middle of reviewing them.

"My desk is a mess," he said. "Organize everything and file the documents according to their labels. Put the completed files in the bottom drawer. Anything marked urgent should remain on the desk."

"Yes, Mr. Dantrix," I replied.

I set the file I'd brought with me on the corner of his desk before starting to put things in order.

"Myra." His voice stopped me.

I turned. "Yes, sir?"

"I'm sorry about Daniela's behavior earlier." His expression softened, turning slightly apologetic. "She can be... rather pushy."

"It's alright. I didn't take it personally."

"Thank you for your understanding."

"You're welcome, sir," I said with a small nod.

Without another word, he picked up his car keys, and right before they left, I could have sworn Brandon gave me a strange look before following his boss out.

Jade's P.O.VPicking up the first file from the coffee table, I slowly read through it. I scanned the information about one of the potential surrogate mothers, who was sitting directly across from me on the leather sofa, tracking my movements.I glanced at the woman, and she flashed me a wide, bright smile, shifting her posture with total confidence.I adjusted the file on my lap, settling back against the cushion to create some professional distance.“I see here that your blood type is A positive,” I said, more as an observation than a question.“Oh, yes, it is, Mr. Dantrix,” she replied, leaning forward eagerly. “And might I also add that I have really strong genes?”My eyes lifted from the file to her face, my expression remaining completely flat.“Strong genes?” I repeated, questioning her phrasing. She nodded proudly, tipping her chin up with an air of immense self-assurance.“My mother had twins, and both my grandmother and great-grandmother also had twins.”One of my brows arch

Jade's P.O.VDespite how far the night had gone from my original plan, things finally seemed to be going smoothly. Myra and I were having our drinks and carrying on a normal conversation.I asked a few simple, surface-level questions, trying to get a better idea of who she was outside the office.I now knew that her favorite color was red, she was allergic to fish, and that her favorite season was winter.I had never really had a favorite season before, but I was seriously beginning to think winter could become mine.“You still haven't told me how you got my address and phone number,” Myra said in the middle of our conversation as she took another sip of her iced peach tea.“Your phone number was already on the company's employee list. As for your address, well...” I paused, a small smile tugging at my lips. “You could say I stalked you.”Her brows furrowed. “You stalked me?”“Yeah.” I leaned back slightly, watching the subtle way her expression shifted. “After your third day at the o

Myra's P.O.VMy fist clenched.I simply stared at Vincent, trying to decide whether I had heard him clearly or not."Excuse me?"He took another step toward me, his expression darkening. "You heard me clearly," he said. "Or would you like me to repeat what I said?"The audacity of the man almost made me want to laugh. Who exactly did Vincent think he was?"You came into this private lounge unannounced, and that's the first thing you chose to say to me.""Are you trying to deny it?" he asked, his eyes narrowing. "You expect me to believe there's nothing going on between you two?"I folded my arms across my chest, refusing to let his accusation or irritating presence get under my skin. I was already boiling on the inside, and one more idiotic thing from him was going to make me snap."Is that jealousy I sense from you, Vincent?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. His jaw hardened even further. I was almost certain his teeth were beginning to ache from how tightly he was clenching them."

Myra's P.O.V"Stop overthinking," he murmured, his voice sounding deep and sinfully tempting. His face slowly drew closer to mine, and I did not pull back; I did the very opposite by inching closer to him. When our lips met, it felt like an electric spark, the kind that gave a hint of excitement and vulnerability at the same time. His arms wrapped around my waist, and he pressed me against his body, while my fingers locked into his hair.As the kiss deepened, the cool rush of mint from his mouth clouded my tongue. Beneath it lingered something warm and faintly sweet, like dark chocolate. That made me press closer, craving more of that intoxicating mix."Um, Jade... sir," a woman said from behind Jade.My eyes snapped open and, like a trance cut off, I broke the kiss. Jade's arms still held me firmly, like he wasn't ready to let go.His frame was blocking my view, so I couldn't see the woman who had spoken."Did you forget how to knock?" Jade snapped."I'm sorry. Myra's P.O.VIt was Jade's voice. I looked across the pavement over at him, and he had his phone pressed tightly to his ear, a smug smirk resting on his face.I immediately ended the call and walked over to where he stood."How did you get my phone number, Jade?" I asked, crossing my arms.He shrugged casually, a glint of amusement in his eyes."I'll tell you when we get to where we're going," he replied smoothly. He shoved his phone into his pocket and handed me a heavy black helmet."Put this on."Despite my unanswered question, I took the helmet from his hands and slid it over my head, carefully fastening the chin straps into the buckle until it clicked securely. He pulled on his own helmet and swung his leg over the seat, getting onto the bike."Hop on, my lady," he said, turning the key.I crossed my leg over the leather seat and sat down directly behind him. I was a bit hesitant to hold onto his waist, but the exact second the engine roared to life with a violent shudder, I

Myra's P.O.V"...and that concludes everything for the week, Mr. Dantrix," I said, holding the iPad down as I finished the full run-through of the office schedule. It was apparently something Jade liked to do every Friday before he closed for the day. He preferred to go through the week's activities to see how he could improve his schedule for the next week."Thank you, Myra," Jade muttered, giving his leather chair a single, smooth spin. "Finally, I can start enjoying my weekend effective immediately."He seemed to be in a very good mood today. I was tempted to ask him what had put him in such a fine spirit, but I quickly suppressed my curiosity."I guess that means I get to close early today, right?" I asked."Yeah, but before you leave, I should congratulate you," he said with a smile."Congratulate me for what?" I questioned, slightly confused as to what I was being rewarded for.His grin stretched even wider, pulling back to reveal a perfect set of gleaming white teeth."Fo
