Myra's P.O.V

"Hold on," I said, pushing away from the kitchen island, the marble cool against my palms as I braced my weight. "Just give me a second."

I sucked a sharp, deep breath into my lungs, holding it until the tightness in my chest eased, before letting it out in a slow exhale.

I couldn't handle him dumping another sack of depressing information onto my lap right now. I needed a minute to think.

Just a few seconds for the dust to settle. The sheer shock of Landon standing in my kitchen was already an anchor pulling me under, but hearing that our father had been murdered threatened to drown me completely.

"You still drink tea?" I asked, my voice flat as I forced my legs to move toward the upper cabinets.

"Yeah. I do," Landon replied from the island. His voice sounded heavier than I remembered, stripped of its old boyish rhythm.

I reached for two ceramic mugs, the porcelain clinking sharply in the quiet room as I set them down. My hands shook slightly as I lifted the kettle, filling it with water and flicking the switch. I could feel his eyes tracking my every movement, like a weight against my back.

It was surreal. A few minutes ago, I would have sworn the man downstairs was an impostor wearing my brother’s face. But watching the way he sat, the slight hunch of his shoulders, it was actually him.

"You know you can take off your hoodie now," I muttered, keeping my gaze fixed on the steam beginning to rise from the spout.

"All right," he murmured.

The soft rustle of fabric followed. I poured the boiling water over the tea bags, watching the amber color bleed through the water, dark and murky. I carried his mug over, setting it down with a muted thud before retreating to my side of the island.

I sank into my stool, wrapping both hands around my own mug, desperate to absorb the heat into my frozen fingers.

"Thanks," Landon muttered.

He mirrored my movement, wrapping his palms around the ceramic, but he didn't drink. He just stared into the rising steam.

A hundred questions crawled in the back of my throat, sharp and itching to get out, but they jammed against each other, fighting for release. I didn't know which one to pull free first.

Looking across at him, the reality of his absence hit me in waves. Underneath the shadow of his hood, his face looked weathered. Dark, hollow circles ringed his eyes, and a thick, rough stubble shadowed his jaw.

The Landon I grew up with never let a single stray hair mar his skin. He had been meticulous, clean-shaven to a fault. Now, he looked like a man who had been running for a very long time.

"You said you knew Dad was murdered." I held his gaze, refusing to let him look away.

Landon froze. The mug stopped halfway to his lips, and he slowly lowered it back to the counter, the liquid sloshing against the rim.

"I want you to tell me everything you know," I demanded, my voice tightening.

He let out a long, ragged sigh, a puff of breath escaping his parted lips.

"Dad had some dealings with the wrong people, Myra. During the last few weeks we were together, I could tell he was hiding something. Some guy even came to the house once, demanding that Dad give him what was owed to him. I was in the hallway, so I didn't catch the whole conversation."

My brows drew together, a sharp line forming between them.

"Do you remember who the guy was? What he looked like?"

Landon shook his head, a grim, humorless smile touching his lips.

"I don't. I'd never seen him before in my life. Dad assured me afterward that it was just an old business partner."

"Is that all you know?" The words slipped out sharper than intended, laced with disappointment and a rising, bitter irritation. He had claimed he knew why our father was killed.

But this was barely a scrap of information.

"I'm sorry, Myra," Landon said, his voice dropping an octave, tinged with a warning. "But these people are way higher up than you think. They're dangerous. I wish I could have spoken to Dad more, to really understand what he had gotten himself into. But I couldn't."

I looked down at my tea, the surface twisting with my reflection. This didn't give me the closure I craved. It didn't give me a name, a place, or a target to bring justice to our father's killers.

But instead of dampening my resolve, it felt like lighter fluid poured over a spark.

A sudden, fierce heat awoke in my chest, a desperate, ugly hunger for retribution. If my brother wanted to live like a stray, terrified cat, let him. He was a coward. I wasn't.

I gripped my mug until my knuckles turned white, raising it to my lips to take a searing sip. "What do you think Dad took from them?"

"Money, probably," Landon muttered, staring at the counter. "It’s always about the money."

We finished the rest of our tea in total silence, the only sound the occasional scrape of ceramic on stone.

Once the mugs were empty, I stood up, rinsed them thoroughly in the sink, and set them on the drying rack. The mechanical movement kept my mind from spinning out of control.

"Do you have anywhere to spend the night?" I asked, turning back to him.

Landon lowered his head, his cheeks tingling with faint, embarrassment.

"No, not really. I was staying out in Kansas, and I sort of came here in a rush. But don't worry about me. I can find a cheap motel to crash at for the night."

I shook my head, cutting him off.

"That's ridiculous. It's already past midnight. Why don't we eat, and then you can take the couch?" I nodded toward the small grey sofa in the living room.

Jade's P.O.VPicking up the first file from the coffee table, I slowly read through it. I scanned the information about one of the potential surrogate mothers, who was sitting directly across from me on the leather sofa, tracking my movements.I glanced at the woman, and she flashed me a wide, bright smile, shifting her posture with total confidence.I adjusted the file on my lap, settling back against the cushion to create some professional distance.“I see here that your blood type is A positive,” I said, more as an observation than a question.“Oh, yes, it is, Mr. Dantrix,” she replied, leaning forward eagerly. “And might I also add that I have really strong genes?”My eyes lifted from the file to her face, my expression remaining completely flat.“Strong genes?” I repeated, questioning her phrasing. She nodded proudly, tipping her chin up with an air of immense self-assurance.“My mother had twins, and both my grandmother and great-grandmother also had twins.”One of my brows arch

  • The Billionaire Biker's Plus Size Obsession   Tethered To Her

Jade's P.O.VDespite how far the night had gone from my original plan, things finally seemed to be going smoothly. Myra and I were having our drinks and carrying on a normal conversation.I asked a few simple, surface-level questions, trying to get a better idea of who she was outside the office.I now knew that her favorite color was red, she was allergic to fish, and that her favorite season was winter.I had never really had a favorite season before, but I was seriously beginning to think winter could become mine.“You still haven't told me how you got my address and phone number,” Myra said in the middle of our conversation as she took another sip of her iced peach tea.“Your phone number was already on the company's employee list. As for your address, well...” I paused, a small smile tugging at my lips. “You could say I stalked you.”Her brows furrowed. “You stalked me?”“Yeah.” I leaned back slightly, watching the subtle way her expression shifted. “After your third day at the o

Myra's P.O.VMy fist clenched.I simply stared at Vincent, trying to decide whether I had heard him clearly or not."Excuse me?"He took another step toward me, his expression darkening. "You heard me clearly," he said. "Or would you like me to repeat what I said?"The audacity of the man almost made me want to laugh. Who exactly did Vincent think he was?"You came into this private lounge unannounced, and that's the first thing you chose to say to me.""Are you trying to deny it?" he asked, his eyes narrowing. "You expect me to believe there's nothing going on between you two?"I folded my arms across my chest, refusing to let his accusation or irritating presence get under my skin. I was already boiling on the inside, and one more idiotic thing from him was going to make me snap."Is that jealousy I sense from you, Vincent?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. His jaw hardened even further. I was almost certain his teeth were beginning to ache from how tightly he was clenching them."

Myra's P.O.V"Stop overthinking," he murmured, his voice sounding deep and sinfully tempting. His face slowly drew closer to mine, and I did not pull back; I did the very opposite by inching closer to him. When our lips met, it felt like an electric spark, the kind that gave a hint of excitement and vulnerability at the same time. His arms wrapped around my waist, and he pressed me against his body, while my fingers locked into his hair.As the kiss deepened, the cool rush of mint from his mouth clouded my tongue. Beneath it lingered something warm and faintly sweet, like dark chocolate. That made me press closer, craving more of that intoxicating mix."Um, Jade... sir," a woman said from behind Jade.My eyes snapped open and, like a trance cut off, I broke the kiss. Jade's arms still held me firmly, like he wasn't ready to let go.His frame was blocking my view, so I couldn't see the woman who had spoken."Did you forget how to knock?" Jade snapped."I'm sorry. I knocked but no o

  • The Billionaire Biker's Plus Size Obsession   Can I

Myra's P.O.VIt was Jade's voice. I looked across the pavement over at him, and he had his phone pressed tightly to his ear, a smug smirk resting on his face.I immediately ended the call and walked over to where he stood."How did you get my phone number, Jade?" I asked, crossing my arms.He shrugged casually, a glint of amusement in his eyes."I'll tell you when we get to where we're going," he replied smoothly. He shoved his phone into his pocket and handed me a heavy black helmet."Put this on."Despite my unanswered question, I took the helmet from his hands and slid it over my head, carefully fastening the chin straps into the buckle until it clicked securely. He pulled on his own helmet and swung his leg over the seat, getting onto the bike."Hop on, my lady," he said, turning the key.I crossed my leg over the leather seat and sat down directly behind him. I was a bit hesitant to hold onto his waist, but the exact second the engine roared to life with a violent shudder, I

  • The Billionaire Biker's Plus Size Obsession   It's Not A Date

Myra's P.O.V"...and that concludes everything for the week, Mr. Dantrix," I said, holding the iPad down as I finished the full run-through of the office schedule. It was apparently something Jade liked to do every Friday before he closed for the day. He preferred to go through the week's activities to see how he could improve his schedule for the next week."Thank you, Myra," Jade muttered, giving his leather chair a single, smooth spin. "Finally, I can start enjoying my weekend effective immediately."He seemed to be in a very good mood today. I was tempted to ask him what had put him in such a fine spirit, but I quickly suppressed my curiosity."I guess that means I get to close early today, right?" I asked."Yeah, but before you leave, I should congratulate you," he said with a smile."Congratulate me for what?" I questioned, slightly confused as to what I was being rewarded for.His grin stretched even wider, pulling back to reveal a perfect set of gleaming white teeth."Fo
