I waited until we reached the top of the hill to place my foot in front of the wheel of my chair. I meant what I said to Claire. There was no one better suited for Leo than me. I just had to make Leo see that Claire was the wrong choice and remind him of how compatible we once were before this “accident”. Claire knows that I want Leo. If only she’d give up now and admit her impeding defeat.
This woman was pathetic. After executing the first part of my plan, I watched her examine the wheels while holding onto my chair. She really didn’t want to hurt me but I had to make it seem otherwise if I wanted Leo. I used all my might to push her and throw off her balance. Watching her as she lost her grip on my chair and the horror of watching me fly down the hill - desperately trying to save me. This may hurt but I know once I scream - Leo will run to my side and he’d never believe this was an accident. Thus, driving the wedge between him and Claire. A wedge large enough to drive him into my arms. Claire was no match for me. I’d make sure of it. I fly down the hill in my wheelchair bracing for the painful impact. I hit the pavement with my forehead only slightly as I partially caught myself. I needed an injury if this was going to be convincing but I didn’t want to be too injured to play the poor abused disabled woman. I then waited for Claire to catch up and played the victim. A fearful and traumatized disabled woman who has the kindest heart with only the purest of intentions. As Claire rushes to my side, I see Leo running down the hill with his infamous eyes of fury and they’re directed at her. I can’t believe how much can be done in so little time. I’ve been able to divide the marriage of my childhood love and his wife, divulge his family, falsely-accuse Claire of abusing little ole me and have Leonardo rushing to my side and saving me at just the mere sound of my voice. I cower at the sight of Claire. I needed everyone to believe I feared her - no matter how pathetic that might sound. It would add to the story’s credibility which was necessary if I planned of getting Leo to abandon his wife. Ugh. Even the mention of title to Leo made my stomach turn. As Leo reaches Claire, I watch him push her to the ground with no regard to come to my aid. He scoops me up in one swift moment and reassures me that the doctor is on the way. I cling to him happily as I watch Claire over his shoulder. If only she’d give could see me smiling. I believe I accomplished exactly what I intended too. Too bad, I might have a scar in the process.I watched as Claire used every last ounce of energy she had to push out our boys. She repeated the process as instructed by the delivering doctor although she was in tears and drenched in sweat. It wasn’t until I heard the first cry that I realized she had done it and I see her face light up as she hears his cries.“You’re almost there, momma. We just need you to push one more time and your second baby boy should be out.” The nurse says calmly as she continues to support Claire’s leg. I can see my mother on the other side of Claire’s bed and she seems lost for words as she holds Claire’s hand and looks over at our son. Claire begins pushing again and our second son comes out instantly. Claire begins to sob as she sees both boys being cleaned up by the nurses.“You’ve done wonderful, dear. They look marvelous.” Mother takes a damp cloth, wiping Claire’s face gently as she commends her.“They’re beautiful.” I whisper as I kiss her forehead. After seeing my boys, I became oblivious to al
I finally have a plan on my escape and after reading and watching our local weather reports, it seems that I have the perfect opportunity. There should be tropical storm coming in the next two weeks and this offered nothing but ample opportunity for me to execute my escape, seize my medication to stop my wretched mother from interfering and break into Leo’s home to find Claire and show her why she should’ve heeded my warning in the first place. Julia might have removed my finger and scarred my face but she was not going to deter me from destroying Claire. It couldn’t be helped. She may have altered my image and temporarily broken down my self-esteem but I refuse to be undermined by a scoured woman without premise. “You will fail, Charlotte.” I hear my mother echo as there is a knock at the door.“Hi, it’s time for your first psychiatric evaluation.” The nurse says cheerfully. I get up without so much as a word and follow her out of the room. Anything was better than dealing with the
I feel Leo’s arms holding me as I double over in pain once again. The contractions were beginning to feel closer and more complex. They had easily doubled in intensity since I’d arrived and Leo’s breathing technique had lost its effectiveness. “Dear, a kiss releases oxytocin and that will ease her pain. Be affectionate to her.” It was sweet but also very odd to have so much support from her. “Mother, I’m sure Claire doesn’t want to be affectionate while you all are watching.” Leo was not taking well to her suggestions.“Will it lower the pain?” I ask in a tiredness as the contractions subside.“Yes. It is proven to help.” She says proudly. I look over at Leo in response. If it was proven then he should have no hesitations although I know Leo wasn’t one for such public affections normally. He looks at me and gives a small smile as though he knew exactly what I was thinking. He leans in gently, kissing me until I pull back for air. It wasn’t our normal kisses that usually led to somet
Did she just say four hours? Claire’s water open broke two hours ago and they just administered her medication when she arrived. Could she really give birth to the boys that quickly? Just as we all share looks of concern, the doctor comes in to check Claire’s dilation again. We’re asked to leave the room for her privacy and we all walk out in single order without hesitation. Leonardo and his mother stayed back.“Do you think Claire is ready to push now?” Nathan asks as he walk over to the private waiting area. “I don’t think so. She’s only just had the medication.” “I would side with Leo’s mother. She isn’t known for being wrong about these things.” Mason adds. “Before they were well-off, she was a midwife. This was her profession.”“She actually had a job at one point?” Nathan was surprised.“Yes. I remember her walking into the front door with scrubs while Leo and I played video games. We were very young. It was shortly before his father’s business took off.” Mason says as we all
I sit silently holding onto Claire’s hand while answering Jasmine and Elena’s questions. They were worried about every little detail that encompassed childbirth and it was starting to make me even more nervous. “Don’t let them get in your head. They’re just spiraling.” Nathan offers as he walks back in with snack and drinks for everyone and a bucket of ice chips for Claire. He hands me a coffee. “Thanks, Nathan.” I raise my cup at him. He wasn’t that bad after I actually got to know him personally. A shame I didn’t bother when I contracted his company for over the years. As soon as I take a sip of my coffee, I hear the door open behind me and someone gasps. “Hello Mother.” I say without so much as looking back. Her perfume was a give away as well as her dramatics. “Hello dear, how is my daughter-in-law doing?” She says as she lowers herself to the seat beside me. “She’s resting for now. They’re going to check her dilation progress in the next thirty minutes.” “She plans to del
Leonardo paved as he waited for the nurse and doctor to check in on me. He was nervous and I could see why. We weren’t expecting the boys to set their arrival just yet. Thankfully, our new home is just finished so we have a nice discreet location to raise them peacefully - even if it’s only for a little while until Charlotte finds me again.Once the doctor came by, he checked my dilation and I was only two centimeters. He suggested that I take a medication to help me dilate more quickly since I was having multiples. Leo was hesitant but I quickly agreed as it would help me achieve a natural delivery. The nurse came in shortly after to administer an IV with saline solution and my medication. I could tell that she was nervous because of Leo. His eyes could have burned a hole in her. “Leo, I think you’re scaring her.” I say softly as she works on my IV. I see her face become red with embarrassment. “I’ll just stand over here.” He says quietly as he stands by the window across the enorm
