LOGINThe office smelled like money and power when she entered.
A tall figure sat behind the large office desk. Black suit, curly hair, and a dangerous aura that made her rethink her reason for coming here.
Daniela went in and sat stiffly in front of his desk. Her knees were pressed together, her fingers tangled on her lap.
He hadn’t looked at her yet. Just skimmed the papers in front of him.
Finally, he spoke, his voice low and smooth. “So, you want to work for me.”
Daniela's heart tripped over itself. “Yes. I want to be your son's nanny.” She replied.
“But according to this, you’re also applying to be… my chef, my personal assistant, my bodyguard…" he paused deliberately on the last line, his voice dropping. “…and my wife.”
Daniela's throat went dry. “That was a mistake. I'm only applying for the nanny part.” She said, hoping that was enough explanation.
He looked at her then leaned back on his chair, the leather made a faint sound as his weight pressed down on it. “You are not qualified for the job. You got the offer only because your resume said you were an All in one package, or was that a lie?”
Daniela pinched her palm. What should she do? The only way she can get the job is if she agrees to everything listed on her resume. All thanks to Lara for putting her in this mess.
“You’ll be my son's nanny,” he said simply, as if it was already decided. Then his gaze dragged slowly down, over her. “But as for the rest…”
He leaned forward. “Give it time. You’ll become every one of them.”
Daniela's breath caught in her throat. Isn't this supposed to be an interview?
“Do you understand the rules of this house?” Killian asked, drawing her attention back to him.
“No visitors. No wandering where I’m not allowed. Always put the child first,” she recited, having memorized the conditions on her way here in the car.
He leaned forward, his gaze sharp. “And most importantly. What happens in this house stays in this house. If you see something you shouldn’t, you forget it. Do you understand?”
A shiver worked down her spine. She nodded. “Yes.”
His eyes lingered on her one beat longer before he finally said, “Good. Mrs. Callahan will brief you on everything you need to know about the kids.”
Daniela frowned. Kids? There were more than one? The door opened and an elderly woman walked in.
Daniela stood up and gave a slight bow before walking out. She didn't know why she did that, but something about him commanded respect.
“Come. I'll show you to their room.” Mrs. Callahan said as she led the way.
Daniela decided to wait before asking questions. She couldn't help but look around in awe. The interior was a blend of black and white luxury. Monochrome paintings lined the walls.
They took the elevator down to the second floor.
“This second floor is for the kids. The one above is for Mr. Grafton, while the one below is a general floor. You can only go to the third floor if you're called by Mr. Grafton. You're free to move around the first and second floor.” Mrs. Callahan concluded as they stopped in front of a blue door, the only odd colored door she'd seen so far.
Mrs. Callahan pushed open the door and they went in. Daniela glanced around the room. It was almost as wide as the living room, just that this one was blue in color.
“This is their room. That's the sleeping area. That door leads to their indoor playhouse. That's their study room. The bathroom is to the left. Fitness room is opposite the study room. And lastly, the timeout room where they are locked if they misbehave, is right there.” Mrs. Callahan said, pointing to a door by the right.
Daniela glanced around. Hopefully, she remembers everything she said.
“Please what's my working time?” Daniela asked.
“5:30am to 7pm. Be here by 5:30am to get them ready for school. They leave home by 7am and return home by 4pm. So from 7am to 3pm, you can leave to do whatever you want to do. But you must be back by 3pm before they return from school. From 3pm to 7pm, you do the necessary things then put them to bed before leaving.”
“Ok. Thanks.”
“Since today's the first day, you'll stay till they come back. For the meantime, this book contains everything you need to know about them.” Mrs. Callahan said as she passed Daniela a blue book.
Daniela took it. “I'll start reading now.”
She smiled. “Take your time. They all have different personalities. You need to understand what they like and what they don't like. You're free to walk around and get familiar with the place.”
Daniela thanked her then sat on the couch beside the window. She opened the book and started reading.
Matteo – The Protective One (Oldest by minutes).
Likes:
Staying close to his brothers.
Building block towers and arranging things in order.
Holding hands (especially with Alessio, to reassure him).
Dislikes:
Seeing anyone cry (he feels responsible to fix it).
Strangers touching or talking to his brothers.
Being separated from the group (he panics).
Quirk: Acts older than he is. Tries to fix things and don't easily trust people, but when he does, it's a deep trust.
—
Alessio – The Scared One.
Likes:
Soft blankets, cuddly toys (he has one he won’t sleep without).
Quiet, calm places (hides under the table or behind curtains when overwhelmed).
Gentle music or humming (it soothes him).
Dislikes:
Loud voices, clapping, or sudden noises.
Being in the dark.
People leaving the room without saying goodbye.
Quirk: Very clingy. Hides behind his brothers when nervous. Can tell if someone is genuine or not.
__
Rocco – The Angry One.
Likes:
Throwing balls, running, and anything physical.
Drawing with bold colors (often reds and blacks).
Testing boundaries (he likes to push to see reactions).
Dislikes:
Being told no.
Sharing his favorite toys with people other than his brothers.
Being ignored (it makes his tantrums worse).
Quirk: He lashes out (throwing or hitting) instead of crying when frustrated.
__
Leo – The Silent Observer
Likes:
Puzzles and watching others quietly.
Sitting by windows, staring outside.
Following routines (breakfast at the same spot, bedtime story at the same time).
Dislikes:
Being forced to do what he doesn't want to do — he withdraws more.
Too much chaos; he steps back when the others get rowdy.
Unfamiliar people touching his toys.
Quirk: Rarely speaks, but notices everything. He might quietly hand you something, or tug at your hand when he wants something.
Daniela found their names quite familiar. What a coincidence. She continued reading. She had a lot to cover up before they arrived.
General things to note:
*They always work as a team.
*Don't ask them about their mother.
*Alessio shouldn't see blood or be taken to places with deep water.
*Rocco can sometimes lash out over little things.
*Leo tends to pull away from activities involving more than 5 people.
*They can be very naughty sometimes if they all want the same thing but aren't given what they want. E.g, they want to go to the park but you don't let them, they'll team up and make sure you regret not letting them go.
Daniela couldn't help but laugh at that line. This job might actually be fun. She took her time to understand everything on the book.
When the clock struck 4, Daniela dropped the book then waited for them to arrive. Not long after, she heard the door knob twist open.
Killian pushed the door open then walked in. Daniela quickly stood to her feet.
“Good afternoon sir.” She greeted and he gave a slight nod.
“Come in.” He said, looking behind him. He ignored the displeased look on their faces.
Daniela glanced at the door, wondering why they didn't come in. Just then, four small figures appeared in front of the door. Their faces were dull and unhappy, but the moment they saw her, the look on their faces were quickly replaced with surprise.
Daniela's eyes widened too. The four of them ran towards her and hugged her legs. She squatted to their level and they didn't waste time in jumping into her arms.
The room was filled with her cheerful laugh.
Killian stood by the door and watched the scene before him. A stranger has never made them so happy to the point they forgot they were trying to convince him to fire her minutes ago.
He watched their reaction. They were all happy. His eyes moved to Daniela. Then he remembered, she was the girl he saw them with last night.
Killian snapped out of his thoughts when he saw the four of them run towards him. They wrote on their tabs and showed it to him. They all had the same words.
THANK YOU DADDY!
He nodded in response. They probably liked their new nanny.
Alessio ran towards her and pulled out the plush puppy she'd given him. Daniela smiled and ruffled his hair.
Killian watched their interactions. “Go down and see if their meal is ready. They'll be down in some minutes.”
Daniela nodded. They released her hands and let her go. Killian took off his suit jacket then walked into the bathroom. He turned on the tap and filled the bathtub with warm water.
Matteo, Alessio, Rocco and Leo hurried out of their uniforms. They glanced at the bathroom door to see if Killian was coming. He wasn't.
MUMMY IS FINALLY HERE. I'M SO HAPPY— Alessio.
ME TOO. NOW WE HAVE FOUND MUMMY. PHASE TWO, MAKE DADDY FALL IN LOVE WITH HER, STARTS NOW— Rocco.
ROCCO, DO YOU REMEMBER WHERE THE POWER SWITCH CONNECTED TO DADDY'S ROOM IS?— Matteo.
I REMEMBER— Rocco.
GOOD. OUR FIRST MISSION IS ON THE DINNING TABLE— Matteo.
They payed attention as Matteo explained what their mission was about.
A cunning smile tugged at their lips. When Killian stepped out, they had already concluded their plan. They feigned an innocent face, whereas they were about to cause chaos.
After taking a bath, Killian dressed them up then took them down to the dining table.
They stood side by side, their heads slightly bowed. Alessio turned a little, blinking his puppy eyes at Daniela.“I'm not falling for that, Alessio.”He quickly faced the wall again. After two minutes of silence, Rocco slowly raised his tab over his head.CAN WE AT LEAST HUM?Daniela exhaled. “No humming.”Another minute passed. Matteo’s arms started flapping like a bird.“Hands down, Matteo.”He froze. From the couch, Killian was now leaning back, openly amused. He glanced at Daniela. She was staring at her phone and her expression didn't look happy. Was it because of the news? At the wall, Alessio slowly raised his tab again.ARE WE GROUNDED FROM ICE CREAM TOO?“Yes.”Four shoulders dropped in disbelief. Leo dramatically leaned his head against the wall, as if his world had ended.THAT’S TOO HARSH. WE WERE JUST SPREADING LOVE.Rocco typed furiously.WE MADE YOU BOTH FAMOUS. EVERYONE LOVES YOU NOW.Daniela sighed. “You’re lucky you’re cute.”Killian chuckled. He leaned forward, re
Daniela was about to say something when her phone dinged with a message. She reached across the bedside table and grabbed it. It was a message from Danim. A video, followed by the text “What is this?” Daniela frowned and sat straight. She played video, and the first thing that came in sight was the quadruplets, being interviewed live on TV. She looked across the room. “Killian.” “Hmm? Anything wrong?” “Why are the quadruplets live on TV?” “What?” Killian grabbed his phone and noticed it was on airplane mode. He turned it off, and within seconds, notifications started exploding across his screen.Articles. Mentions. Headlines.Special Guests – The Grafton QuadrupletsHeadline: “CEO’S CHILDREN CONFIRM SECRET MARRIAGE?!”And then he saw a video of the quadruplets. What are these four devils up to? He hit play. “Good morning everyone, and welcome back to Good Day Harbor. Today, we are here with the Grafton quadruplets, who will be joining us in today's live interview.” The audienc
The rhythmic sound of waves brushing against the hull echoed faintly through the suite. Sunlight spilled in through the curtains, scattering golden rays across the room.Daniela blinked her eyes open. For a second, she forgot where she was, until she spotted the figure sitting across the room.Killian sat on the couch, his laptop balanced on his lap, a cup of coffee beside him. His shirt was unbuttoned at the chest, his fingers tapping quietly against the keyboard.Daniela propped herself up on one elbow, watching him in silence. The sunlight softened his features, the sternness of his usual expression replaced by something almost… peaceful. She smiled faintly. “When did you return.” Killian’s fingers paused on the keyboard. He looked up, his expression softening. “You're up already?” She nodded, sitting up and leaning on the pillow behind her. “How're you feeling? Do you still feel pain?” He asked.“More better than before. Thanks.” Daniela felt a little embarrassed hearing it co
The game ended with Killian winning a complete 10-0. Daniela looked upset as the quadruplets jumped around her.OUR DADDY IS THE BEST— Leo.Killian chuckled and stood up. “Why are you upset? Weren't you smiling earlier on.” DADDY YOU SHOULD KISS HER. MAYBE SHE WON'T BE UPSET ANYMORE— Alessio. Daniela shot him a glare. CAN WE GO TO THE SWIMMING POOL TOMORROW? PLEASE!— Matteo. “Ok. It's late, get ready for bed.” Killian said before walking into his room. The four brothers glanced at each other, a small smile forming on their lips. —The morning sun spilled gently through the curtains, painting the room in golden light. The ship swayed lazily with the rhythm of the sea. After breakfast, they were to go to the enormous pool at the lower deck. Daniela sat at the edge of the couch, typing a message on her phone while they waited for Killian who went into the room. The quadruplets were already in their swimming shorts, running around the suite, tossing sunscreen bottles like grenades
Killian didn’t reply. He only turned his gaze toward the open sea. The endless horizon shimmered, vast, uncontainable. Like everything he couldn’t admit.Martin leaned back, tone softening.“You don’t have to say it. But whoever that woman is, she’s gotten under your skin.”Killian’s throat worked, but he kept his tone neutral.“She’s just… my sons’ nanny.”“Uh-huh,” Martin said with a smirk. “And I’m the Pope.”Killian shot him a glare, but Martin only laughed.“Relax. I’m not going to tease you too much. But let me say this. Don’t run from what makes you human, Killian. You’ve built an empire, sure. But even kings get lonely.”Silence stretched between them, the faint hum of the ocean filling the space. Killian closed the file and leaned back.“I’ll review the proposal.” He said quietly, sliding the file back on the table. “Take your time. Enjoy the trip. Who knows, maybe by the end of it, you’ll have more than just a business deal to think about.”Martin stood, giving Killian a fr
Killian didn’t say a word the whole walk back to their room. His jaw was tight, his arms steady under her, every muscle rigid as if even breathing might betray what he was thinking.Daniela tried not to notice the heat of his chest or the way his heartbeat pulsed against her side. But she did.And it made her heart trip all over itself.“Mr. Grafton, you can put me down,” she muttered, staring at the door as it slid open with a quiet hiss. “I can walk.”He shot her a look she didn't quite understand. “You can’t even stand without wobbling.”He set her down gently on the bed, the motion precise, careful. For someone who commanded entire boardrooms with steel in his voice, he handled her like she was something fragile. When she tried to get up, his hand shot out, pressing lightly against her thigh.“Don’t move,” he said, voice low.Her breath hitched. He left for a moment and came back with a first-aid kit and a towel wrapped around ice. Without a word, he sat on the floor in front of h
