Mag-log inThe office smelled like money and power when she entered.
A tall figure sat behind the large office desk. Black suit, curly hair, and a dangerous aura that made her rethink her reason for coming here.
Daniela went in and sat stiffly in front of his desk. Her knees were pressed together, her fingers tangled on her lap.
He hadn’t looked at her yet. Just skimmed the papers in front of him.
Finally, he spoke, his voice low and smooth. “So, you want to work for me.”
Daniela's heart tripped over itself. “Yes. I want to be your son's nanny.” She replied.
“But according to this, you’re also applying to be… my chef, my personal assistant, my bodyguard…" he paused deliberately on the last line, his voice dropping. “…and my wife.”
Daniela's throat went dry. “That was a mistake. I'm only applying for the nanny part.” She said, hoping that was enough explanation.
He looked at her then leaned back on his chair, the leather made a faint sound as his weight pressed down on it. “You are not qualified for the job. You got the offer only because your resume said you were an All in one package, or was that a lie?”
Daniela pinched her palm. What should she do? The only way she can get the job is if she agrees to everything listed on her resume. All thanks to Lara for putting her in this mess.
“You’ll be my son's nanny,” he said simply, as if it was already decided. Then his gaze dragged slowly down, over her. “But as for the rest…”
He leaned forward. “Give it time. You’ll become every one of them.”
Daniela's breath caught in her throat. Isn't this supposed to be an interview?
“Do you understand the rules of this house?” Killian asked, drawing her attention back to him.
“No visitors. No wandering where I’m not allowed. Always put the child first,” she recited, having memorized the conditions on her way here in the car.
He leaned forward, his gaze sharp. “And most importantly. What happens in this house stays in this house. If you see something you shouldn’t, you forget it. Do you understand?”
A shiver worked down her spine. She nodded. “Yes.”
His eyes lingered on her one beat longer before he finally said, “Good. Mrs. Callahan will brief you on everything you need to know about the kids.”
Daniela frowned. Kids? There were more than one? The door opened and an elderly woman walked in.
Daniela stood up and gave a slight bow before walking out. She didn't know why she did that, but something about him commanded respect.
“Come. I'll show you to their room.” Mrs. Callahan said as she led the way.
Daniela decided to wait before asking questions. She couldn't help but look around in awe. The interior was a blend of black and white luxury. Monochrome paintings lined the walls.
They took the elevator down to the second floor.
“This second floor is for the kids. The one above is for Mr. Grafton, while the one below is a general floor. You can only go to the third floor if you're called by Mr. Grafton. You're free to move around the first and second floor.” Mrs. Callahan concluded as they stopped in front of a blue door, the only odd colored door she'd seen so far.
Mrs. Callahan pushed open the door and they went in. Daniela glanced around the room. It was almost as wide as the living room, just that this one was blue in color.
“This is their room. That's the sleeping area. That door leads to their indoor playhouse. That's their study room. The bathroom is to the left. Fitness room is opposite the study room. And lastly, the timeout room where they are locked if they misbehave, is right there.” Mrs. Callahan said, pointing to a door by the right.
Daniela glanced around. Hopefully, she remembers everything she said.
“Please what's my working time?” Daniela asked.
“5:30am to 7pm. Be here by 5:30am to get them ready for school. They leave home by 7am and return home by 4pm. So from 7am to 3pm, you can leave to do whatever you want to do. But you must be back by 3pm before they return from school. From 3pm to 7pm, you do the necessary things then put them to bed before leaving.”
“Ok. Thanks.”
“Since today's the first day, you'll stay till they come back. For the meantime, this book contains everything you need to know about them.” Mrs. Callahan said as she passed Daniela a blue book.
Daniela took it. “I'll start reading now.”
She smiled. “Take your time. They all have different personalities. You need to understand what they like and what they don't like. You're free to walk around and get familiar with the place.”
Daniela thanked her then sat on the couch beside the window. She opened the book and started reading.
Matteo – The Protective One (Oldest by minutes).
Likes:
Staying close to his brothers.
Building block towers and arranging things in order.
Holding hands (especially with Alessio, to reassure him).
Dislikes:
Seeing anyone cry (he feels responsible to fix it).
Strangers touching or talking to his brothers.
Being separated from the group (he panics).
Quirk: Acts older than he is. Tries to fix things and don't easily trust people, but when he does, it's a deep trust.
—
Alessio – The Scared One.
Likes:
Soft blankets, cuddly toys (he has one he won’t sleep without).
Quiet, calm places (hides under the table or behind curtains when overwhelmed).
Gentle music or humming (it soothes him).
Dislikes:
Loud voices, clapping, or sudden noises.
Being in the dark.
People leaving the room without saying goodbye.
Quirk: Very clingy. Hides behind his brothers when nervous. Can tell if someone is genuine or not.
__
Rocco – The Angry One.
Likes:
Throwing balls, running, and anything physical.
Drawing with bold colors (often reds and blacks).
Testing boundaries (he likes to push to see reactions).
Dislikes:
Being told no.
Sharing his favorite toys with people other than his brothers.
Being ignored (it makes his tantrums worse).
Quirk: He lashes out (throwing or hitting) instead of crying when frustrated.
__
Leo – The Silent Observer
Likes:
Puzzles and watching others quietly.
Sitting by windows, staring outside.
Following routines (breakfast at the same spot, bedtime story at the same time).
Dislikes:
Being forced to do what he doesn't want to do — he withdraws more.
Too much chaos; he steps back when the others get rowdy.
Unfamiliar people touching his toys.
Quirk: Rarely speaks, but notices everything. He might quietly hand you something, or tug at your hand when he wants something.
Daniela found their names quite familiar. What a coincidence. She continued reading. She had a lot to cover up before they arrived.
General things to note:
*They always work as a team.
*Don't ask them about their mother.
*Alessio shouldn't see blood or be taken to places with deep water.
*Rocco can sometimes lash out over little things.
*Leo tends to pull away from activities involving more than 5 people.
*They can be very naughty sometimes if they all want the same thing but aren't given what they want. E.g, they want to go to the park but you don't let them, they'll team up and make sure you regret not letting them go.
Daniela couldn't help but laugh at that line. This job might actually be fun. She took her time to understand everything on the book.
When the clock struck 4, Daniela dropped the book then waited for them to arrive. Not long after, she heard the door knob twist open.
Killian pushed the door open then walked in. Daniela quickly stood to her feet.
“Good afternoon sir.” She greeted and he gave a slight nod.
“Come in.” He said, looking behind him. He ignored the displeased look on their faces.
Daniela glanced at the door, wondering why they didn't come in. Just then, four small figures appeared in front of the door. Their faces were dull and unhappy, but the moment they saw her, the look on their faces were quickly replaced with surprise.
Daniela's eyes widened too. The four of them ran towards her and hugged her legs. She squatted to their level and they didn't waste time in jumping into her arms.
The room was filled with her cheerful laugh.
Killian stood by the door and watched the scene before him. A stranger has never made them so happy to the point they forgot they were trying to convince him to fire her minutes ago.
He watched their reaction. They were all happy. His eyes moved to Daniela. Then he remembered, she was the girl he saw them with last night.
Killian snapped out of his thoughts when he saw the four of them run towards him. They wrote on their tabs and showed it to him. They all had the same words.
THANK YOU DADDY!
He nodded in response. They probably liked their new nanny.
Alessio ran towards her and pulled out the plush puppy she'd given him. Daniela smiled and ruffled his hair.
Killian watched their interactions. “Go down and see if their meal is ready. They'll be down in some minutes.”
Daniela nodded. They released her hands and let her go. Killian took off his suit jacket then walked into the bathroom. He turned on the tap and filled the bathtub with warm water.
Matteo, Alessio, Rocco and Leo hurried out of their uniforms. They glanced at the bathroom door to see if Killian was coming. He wasn't.
MUMMY IS FINALLY HERE. I'M SO HAPPY— Alessio.
ME TOO. NOW WE HAVE FOUND MUMMY. PHASE TWO, MAKE DADDY FALL IN LOVE WITH HER, STARTS NOW— Rocco.
ROCCO, DO YOU REMEMBER WHERE THE POWER SWITCH CONNECTED TO DADDY'S ROOM IS?— Matteo.
I REMEMBER— Rocco.
GOOD. OUR FIRST MISSION IS ON THE DINNING TABLE— Matteo.
They payed attention as Matteo explained what their mission was about.
A cunning smile tugged at their lips. When Killian stepped out, they had already concluded their plan. They feigned an innocent face, whereas they were about to cause chaos.
After taking a bath, Killian dressed them up then took them down to the dining table.
The gates of the fortress closed behind Killian’s car with a low, final hum.Daniela stood by the front steps long after the sound of the engine faded, her arms wrapped loosely around herself. She exhaled, straightened her shoulders, and turned back inside. The fortress was alive in its usual way. Quiet footsteps, distant noises, the soft echo of routine. Daniela slipped easily into it, like she belonged there now. Like it had learned her shape.MUMMY!Four small figures appeared at the end of the hallway, ice cream long forgotten, shoes already kicked off.“I thought you were supposed to be washing your hands.”WE WERE. THEN WE GOT DISTRACTED— Matteo.Daniela ruffled their hair. “Come on, let's get you out of your uniforms. The quadruplets jumped after her. After they freshened up, they had lunch.Daniela had some sketches to make, so after they were done with lunch, the quadruplets followed her into her room. The next hour passed in colored pencils, scattered papers, and loud opin
Killian glanced at her, the corner of his lips curling into a smile.“I'm not your boyfriend.”Daniela's brows furrowed. “Then what are you.” “Your husband.”Daniela blinked. Once. Twice. Then she laughed, short and breathless, like she wasn’t sure whether he was serious or teasing.“My husband?” She echoed, tilting her head. “Did I miss a wedding?”Killian kept his eyes on the road, hands steady on the steering wheel. But the faint smile didn’t leave his lips.“You didn’t miss anything,” he said evenly. “Yet.”Daniela studied him, the way his jaw tightened just a fraction.“You’re serious,” she said softly. He glanced at her then, really looked at her, his gaze heavy with intention.“I don’t use words I don’t mean.”Her chest warmed and tightened at the same time. “You could’ve said fiancé. Or partner. Or…”“Husband,” he repeated. “That’s where this is going.”The car slowed as they approached a traffic light. Outside, the city moved on like nothing monumental had just been said.Da
Daniela slung her bag on her shoulder as she walked out. She thought of going to get the quadruplets from school.Immediately she stepped out, she paused, a smile forming on her lips as she caught sight of the man leaning on a black car meters away from the building.Killian.He wasn’t in his usual rigid work mode. His jacket was slung over one arm, tie loosened, sleeves rolled up just the way she liked seeing it.His eyes found her immediately.Relief crossed his face before he masked it.“You took longer than expected,” he said.Daniela smiled as she approached him. “I told you not to worry, but you didn't listen. How long have you been here?”“It doesn't matter how long I waited, all that matters is that, you're here now.”He stepped closer without thinking, his hand settling lightly at her lower back as if it had always belonged there.Daniela didn’t pull away, instead she leaned closer.Inside the building, a woman slowed her steps. She had been walking toward the exit, phone in
Daniela first went to her room to freshen up before heading for the kitchen. While cooking, she thought of going to the fashion school today. The idea had been sitting at the back of her mind. Mr. Rhis had reached out, reminding her that the offer still stood. The school wasn’t just reputable, it was respected. One of the best. She hadn’t gone before because everything in her life had felt unstable. But now, she finally had time.Killian would be at work.Emy was busy getting the quadruplets ready for school. This was a good chance to go.She poured pancake batter onto the pan, bacon followed, toast popped. She plated everything neatly, adding sliced fruits and warm syrup.By the time she was pouring orange juice, footsteps echoed on the stairs.“Smells illegal.” A voice declared.Daniela turned just in time to see Killian walking in, sleeves of his shirt rolled up, hair still slightly tousled in that unfair way he had in the mornings.Behind him came chaos.Four identical heads, fou
Morning crept into Killian’s room, soft and pale through half-drawn curtains. The air was warm, far too comfortable for a man who normally woke with alarms ringing in his head.Killian’s eyes opened first. For a few seconds, he didn’t move, just breathed, just listened. The steady rhythm beside him grounded him more than sleep ever had.Daniela lay tucked against him, her forehead resting lightly against his collarbone. In sleep, she looked different. Unguarded. Softer. Her breathing was steady and warm, brushing his skin with each exhale. He didn’t move.He just watched her.She looked peaceful. So peaceful it made something in his chest tighten the way it did when he saw the boys asleep. That quiet ache of responsibility mixed with something softer. He studied her expression, memorizing her delicate features. Her lashes, still faintly damp from sleep. Her brow. Her lips, parted just slightly in a way that sent a traitorous warmth low in his stomach.Killian shifted just enough to
But before she could stop herself, she said it. “Can I kiss you?” Killian stilled. His thumb paused at her waist, his breath shallow as he looked at her. “I want to.” She said softly, suddenly feeling the urge to really kiss him. He had kissed her before, but this time, she was the one asking. Something in Killian's expression shifted. He nodded once. Slowly. “Ok.”The word landed between them.Daniela pushed herself up, giving him time to change his mind. He didn’t.She positioned her knees on his sides, her hands sliding around his neck as she leaned down.Killian watched her, a little surprised. The shift was sudden. Her knee sinking into the bed, her weight tipping forward into him, all hesitation burned away in the space between one heartbeat and the next. His hands found her waist, pulling her closer before he’d even thought about it, the heat of her against him like stepping into sunlight after months of winter. The first brush of her lips was tentative, almost questioning,
