A soft, persistent sound pulled Clara out of sleep.

“Mm…”

Her brows furrowed as she shifted slightly on the couch, her neck protesting from the awkward angle. The sound came again.

A low, insistent meow.

Clara blinked her eyes open, disoriented. The living room lights were still on.

Nyx stood beside her, paws pressed lightly against her thigh, staring up at her like she had been trying to wake her for a while.

Clara groaned softly and pushed herself upright, rubbing her face.

“What time is it…”

The elevator doors slid open, and Clara stepped out with Luca beside her. They walked in silence toward the underground garage, the echo of their footsteps bouncing faintly against the concrete walls. Clara’s thoughts were still tangled, looping back to the urgency in Luca’s voice and the weight behind Matteo’s sudden demand.‘Something wasn’t right.’When they reached the parking area, Clara angled toward her car automatically, fishing her keys out of her bag.“I’ll follow you,” she said, already moving.“Wait.”Luca’s voice stopped her.She turned, brows slightly drawn. “What?”“You’ll ride with me,” he said, nodding toward a sleek black sports car parked a few spaces away. “We’ll get there faster.”Clara glanced at the car, then back at him. For a second, she considered arguing. But the tension pressing at the back of her mind made the decision for her.“…Fine.”They walked over together, and Luca unlocked the car with a soft click. The door lifted slightly as she pulled it open, r

The door creaked open wider, and both Clara and Mark turned at the same time.Luca stood at the entrance, composed as ever, his sharp gaze taking in the scene in a single sweep. His presence filled the room effortlessly, calm yet authoritative in a way that made the air shift instantly.Clara recovered first.“Mark,” she said, her tone clipped, stepping away from him. “You should leave now. I have work to do.”Mark hesitated, clearly thrown off by the interruption. His eyes flicked to Luca, scanning him from head to toe.“And who exactly is this?” he asked, a defensive edge creeping into his voice.Luca didn’t answer. He simply held Mark’s gaze, steady and unreadable. It was enough.Whatever Mark had been about to say died in his throat. He shifted slightly, rubbing the side of his face where Clara had slapped him earlier. The confidence he walked in with was gone, replaced with something smaller and uncertain. He looked back at Clara. “This conversation isn’t over.”Clara didn’t resp

Clara’s body went still the moment she saw who stood at the door.Mark.For a second, the shock hit first. It froze her in place, her fingers tightening slightly against her side. Then it faded just as quickly, replaced by something sharper. Anger. Her eyes hardened.Behind her, Tara leaned slightly to the side, trying to get a clearer look. When she saw him, her brows shot up.“Why is he at the office?” she asked, her voice low but edged with disbelief.Clara exhaled slowly, forcing her shoulders to relax even though irritation was already building in her chest.“I don’t know,” she replied, her tone tight. She stepped forward anyway. Avoiding him wasn’t an option.Clara reached for the handle, took in a quiet breath, and pulled the door open wider.Mark didn’t hesitate. He stepped inside like he belonged there.“I need to talk to you,” he said, his voice urgent, his eyes fixed on her like she was the only thing that mattered.Clara shut the door behind him, her expression unreadable.

Tara scoffed, the sound sharp and disbelieving.“Really?” she asked, leaning back in her chair, arms crossing tightly over her chest. “You want to play dumb with me?”Clara held her gaze for a second.‘She knew. Of course she knew.’ She thought. But she didn’t say anything. Tara didn’t wait. She grabbed her phone, unlocked it quickly, and shoved the screen toward Clara. The photo. That same photo of her kissing Matteo.Clara’s chest tightened instantly. Without thinking, she reached for Tara’s wrist and pulled her up.“Come with me.”Tara barely had time to react before Clara was already dragging her across the office floor. A few curious glances followed them, but Clara ignored all of it.She pushed open her office door, pulled Tara inside, and shut it firmly behind them. The click echoed.Tara turned to face her immediately.“Clara,” she started, her voice dropping slightly but still edged with frustration. “Why am I just finding out that you’re the person in that picture?”Clara ex

Clara let out a quiet breath.Right. She had been working. Her gaze shifted to the laptop resting half-closed on her lap. The screen had already gone dark.Images flashed briefly in her mind. The post. The comments. Her chest tightened slightly. She had been going through everything with Luca, trying to track patterns, accounts, and reposts. Trying to make sense of something that alrea

Clara stared at her phone long after the call ended. Then the screen slowly dimmed in her hand, but she didn’t move to wake it again. Matteo’s last words still echoed in her mind.Find out who took that photo. As if it were that simple. Her shoulders slowly sagged as the tension from the day caught up with her. The quiet kitchen suddenly felt heavier, the silence pressing around her.She unlocked the phone again. The post was still there. The resemblance was unsettling when she looked at it this way. Same short bob. Same dark hair framing the face. Even the lighting in the pictures made the illusion worse.Clara frowned.Whoever posted it knew exactly what they were doing. They weren’t just sharing photos. They were asking a question. And the internet loved questions. Her stomach growled loudly, breaking through her thoughts.Clara blinked. Right. She hadn’t eaten all day. Another soft sound reached her ears.Nyx padded across the kitchen floor and rubbed against her ankle, her tail c
