Elara

The moment we stepped out of Grandfather Valmont’s office, Louis grabbed my wrist so hard that I nearly stumbled in my heels.

“What are you trying to do?” he hissed, dragging me toward the empty side of the hallway before I could react.

Pain shot through my arm instantly.

“Louis!” I gasped, trying to pull away. “You’re hurting me.”

His fingers only tightened around my wrist. His jaw was clenched so tightly I thought his teeth might crack.

“What game are you playing, Elara?”

I stared at hi

Alistair The moment I stepped into the abandoned warehouse, I knew something was wrong. The place was supposed to be empty. Instead, the lights were already on. Three black vehicles stood outside.Security guards surrounded the building. And waiting at the center of the room was a man I had spent years trying to reach. Dennis Valmont. My hands tightened into fists. He smiled. “Alistair.” Hearing that name from his mouth felt like a blade dragged across an old wound. “You knew I was coming.” “We knew you would eventually come.” I scanned the room. “This isn’t the meeting I agreed to.” “No,” he replied calmly. “It’s the meeting we wanted.” Several men stepped forward. I didn’t move. Fear has never been useful to me. Neither had hesitation. “What do you want?” Dennis studied me. “Perhaps we should begin with what you want.” “My family.” His expression barely changed. “You’re still obsessed with the past.” “You destroyed my family.” “We made a business decision.”

Elara I knew Alistair was leaving before he said a word. Something about the way he moved through the penthouse was different. His movements were precise. His expression is unreadable. His phone never left his hand. He was preparing for something.Something dangerous. I stood near the doorway as he adjusted his cufflinks. “Where are you going?” He didn’t look at me. “There’s something I need to handle.” My stomach tightened. “That’s not an answer.” His hands stopped. For a moment, neither of us spoke. Then he turned toward me. “I told you yesterday that the Valmonts discovered part of my identity.” “And now you’re leaving.” “Yes.” “To confront them?” His silence answered for him. I stepped closer. “Who?” “The person at the center of everything.” My heart sank. “Your family’s betrayal.” He nodded. “I’m going to meet him.” I stared at him. “You said they were already waiting for you.” “They are.” “And you’re still going?” “Yes.” “Alistair, that’s a trap.”

Alistair The moment the call ended, I knew the rules had changed. The Valmont family was no longer reacting blindly. They were searching. And if they had discovered even a fragment of my past, it would only be a matter of time before they started looking for the people closest to me. Elara. The thought made my blood run cold. I had spent years preparing for this moment. Years building companies, changing identities, creating alliances, and quietly positioning every piece on the board. I had always believed I could control the outcome. But Elara was the one variable I had never planned for. I walked toward the window and stared at the city below. My security team waited behind me. “Move the final operation forward,” I ordered. One of them hesitated. “Sir, we thought the final phase wasn’t supposed to begin for another few weeks.” “It isn’t anymore.” The room fell silent. “They know I’m connected to the past,” I continued. “Every additional day gives them another opport

ElaraSomething had changed in Alistair.I noticed it the moment he walked through the penthouse doors. He was quieter than usual. Not the calm, controlled silence I had grown accustomed to, but something deeper. More final. The first major blow against the Valmont family had landed, and instead of looking satisfied, Alistair looked as though he had simply crossed the first line of a much longer plan.He removed his jacket and placed it over the back of a chair.I watched him from across the room.“You’re different.”His eyes lifted to mine.“Different how?”“Distant.”He said nothing.I stepped closer.“You knew this was coming. The partnership withdrawal, the pressure on the Valmont Group. You knew exactly what would happen.”Alistair’s expression hardened.“Elara, there are things you don’t need to know.”My chest tightened. There it was again. That wall.I had spent months standing beside this man, risking everything for him, yet there were still parts of his life he kept locked aw

Elara I knew the moment Alistair walked into the room that something had changed. He didn’t say anything at first. He simply placed his phone on the table and looked toward the city through the glass windows. I watched him carefully. “What’s happened?” He turned toward me. “The first agreement has collapsed.” My heart skipped. “Valmont?” He nodded. “One of their biggest business partners has withdrawn from an important agreement.” I stared at him. “So quickly?” “This was only the beginning.” There was something different in his voice. Not excitement. Not satisfied. Something colder. For years, Alistair had imagined destroying the people who had wronged him. I had heard the anger beneath his controlled words and seen the determination in his eyes. But now that it was happening, he wasn’t celebrating. He was watching. Waiting. “They don’t know who’s doing it,” he said. I moved closer. “You’re not going to tell them?” “Not yet.” “Why?” His gaze hardened. “Becau

Elara The penthouse felt different when I walked through the doors. Usually, there was an invisible tension in the air whenever Alistair and I were preparing for another move against the Valmont family. Tonight, there was something else. Silence. I found him standing beside the floor-to-ceiling windows, his hands tucked into his pockets as he stared at the city below. He didn’t turn when I entered. “Alistair?” “Come here.” His voice was calm. Too calm. I walked toward him, studying his expression. “What happened?” He finally looked at me. “We’re done.” I frowned. “Done with what?” “The investigation.” For a moment, I thought I’d misunderstood him. “But we still don’t know who controls the investment group.” “I know.” “And the person behind the financial transfers—” “We don’t need to find them.” I stared at him. This wasn’t the Alistair I had grown used to. He had always wanted answers. Every hidden connection, every suspicious transaction, every secret had ma

Elara's POVDenise, despite all her protests, still helped me pick out a dress. For some reason, she’d gone with the color black, the kind that swallowed light. Elara“I’m in town, Miss Dubois and I thought of reaching out to you. I hope you’ve been well? But the

ElaraTo say I was shocked to see her standing in my front door would be an understatement. Why was she here early? Did Louis know she arrived earlier than they planned? My eyes narrowed at her but that didn’t seem to faze her. The smug on her face only seemed to deepen. Ignoring me completely, sh
