Chapter 5: Going Back Home

Roxanne's phone rang.

It reverberated around the living room, silencing Wilma in an instant while Margaux snapped out from utter shock.

“Oh, boyfriend's calling..” chirped Roxanne then quickly accepted the call without removing her eyes on her.

“Where are you?”

Margaux stared at the woman with a pale face.

She knew Roxanne deliberately put on a loudspeaker for her to hear who was calling her.

The tears she was trying her best to suppress, finally fell down like a waterfall. Balling her palms into fists, she stared at the woman happily talking to her husband.

“I'm sorry, I'm on the way now. I just helped Mom..” Roxanne grinned in satisfaction before she turned away and walked out of the villa.

However, she was walking so slowly, enough for her to hear the man's response.

“Come here quick. I can't wait to–”

Although she didn't hear the rest of his sentence since Roxanne had completely gone out of earshot, what she had heard was more than enough to confirm that the two indeed had an affair.

“That's Hendrix,” Wilma arrogantly smirked at her.

Margaux shut her eyes and profusely shook her head. “No. That's not Hendrix,” she muttered almost inaudibly.

Despite recognizing his voice, she still refused to believe it and wanted to convince herself that it was not him.

‘Hendrix was not that kind of man," she told herself inwardly.

There were people who had the same timbre of voice and there were also technologies that can copy a person's voice so accurately. Thus, there's still a chance that it was not him, and Roxanne was just trying to deceive her.

“Do you think my son will really settle for less just because he married you? You're such a delusional b*tch!” Wilma exclaimed. Her patience was gone as her eyes filled with disgust towards her. “Hendrix has been in love with Roxanne for a long time. They have known each other since they were young. Everyone in my family loved her and already accepted her into the family. Hendrix already planned to propose to her that week when you suddenly came into the picture and ruined their relationship!”

Margaux was rendered speechless.

Her mind stopped functioning as if it didn't want to process what Wilma had just said.

Meanwhile, Wilma pointed her index finger to her face. “You probably know all of it and planned the whole incident so you can steal him away from Roxanne! You even pretended to be in a critical condition and blackmail him to marry you!” she spat angrily.

She couldn't hear anything her mother-in-law had said anymore. The pain she was feeling was unbearable that her system shut down right away. She could only cry her heart out as her body slumped on the ground.

“Hendrix felt very guilty about what happened to you. He thought you'll be paralyzed that's why he agreed to marry you and broke up with Roxanne. You've already made his life miserable!” Wilma's voice roared in the living room making it hard for her not to hear it.

Her shoulders shook as she sobbed harder.

All her strength had gone and her chest tightened. Her breathing became ragged as it was getting harder to breath. However, Wilma seemed to not care with her at all and just continued hurling hurtful words towards her.

“I'll give you this day. But I will come back tomorrow with the money. Pack only the things you brought here and don't ever dare steal anything in this villa!”

She was left alone, looking like a huge mess.

Her eyes were red and swollen as her heart was filled with pain and hatred.

She couldn't believe Hendrix could do that!

All the accusations that Wilma had thrown at her were not true. She didn't force Hendrix to marry her and her husband knew it. In fact, he was the one who proposed to her!

Her eyes landed on the divorce paper lying on the carpeted floor. She clutched her chest as she suddenly felt the pang in her heart upon seeing the clear signature above her husband's name.

A bitter laugh escaped her lips.

She couldn't believe that she fell in love with a ruthless man.

She blamed everything on herself as she didn't investigate more about him before she decided to stay in the Philippines for good. Her life in England was already better but she thought it would be to the fullest once she got married to him.

“So stupid!" She cried.

It was very stupid of her to think that she could make Hendrix fall for her. She overestimated herself!

Finally, she stood up and carefully picked up the paper and searched for the pen that Wilma threw at her. With trembling hands, she hastily signed it and walked to the master bedroom.

The moment she entered the spacious room, her eyes wandered around and her chest tightened as it was just the first time she finally stepped into that room, his room. She respected his private space too much that never once did she try to sneak or even take a peek at his bedroom.

Shaking her head, she walked towards the bed and carefully laid down the divorce paper in the middle of the bed. Then, she pulled out the ring on her finger that she thought she would never remove from her body. After placing it on top of the paper, she then hastily marched out.

She went back to her room and started packing her things. And since she didn't have much clothes, it only took her a few minutes to pack them all. She then went in the bathroom to shower and dressed herself as the way she dressed before she became a pitiful wife.

After putting on a light make up, she sat on the bed and stared at her phone in her hand.

“Will he stop me from leaving?” she muttered, hesitating whether to call him or not.

In the end, she finally decided to contact him and inform him about her decision of finally setting him free.

She will also confess everything to him so that there won't be any regrets and what ifs once she left the villa and his life.

“Hello?” Hendrix's voice immediately entered her ears.

Just like coming to his room, it was also her first time to call him over the phone.

Hendrix left his number after they got married and she immediately saved it. However, she didn't dare call him in fear that she's going to disturb him at work and just waited for him to call her instead. Unfortunately, his call never came. And it gave her the impression that he actually didn't know her number.

“Margaux?” The voice sounded hesitant which made her think the person from the other line wasn't sure if it was her or someone else.

Clearing her throat, she answered, “Y-yes, it's me”

There was a long pause on the other line.

Margaux shut her eyes and took out a deep breath. Hearing his voice, it finally dawned in her. She twisted her lips as her tears were threatening to fall again.

“What's the matter? Is there.. anything you need?”

Margaux's lips parted, trying to even her breathing before she responded. However, a woman's voice suddenly spoke from the other line, which was quite familiar to her.

“Hendrix, let's go. We're getting late to our appointment with Dr. Santiago''

She felt like she was splashed by a bucket of ice. She didn't need to ask who it was for she immediately recognized Roxanne's voice despite meeting her only once. And she certainly knew the reason why they had an appointment with the Doctor.

She hung up clumsily and angrily threw her phone against the wall.

“Cheater!” she screamed.

Her heart's constricted in pain. Hatred filled her heart as all her hopes vanished in an instant.

She cannot believe how stupid she really was!  How foolish she had hoped that Hendrix would stop her from leaving if she told him about it! She even planned to tell him everything about her when he doesn't even care!

Going back to her vintage luggage, she pulled out the special phone that her best friend gave her before she left their country then immediately pressed the call button.

Without waiting for the receiver to say anything, she quickly muttered, “I'm going home”
