Chapter 3- A desperate mother

Chloe's POV

~Five years later

I knelt in front of my daughter who was lying on the hospital bed, my heart hurting. She had been diagnosed of cancer, and I had spent almost every penny I had made on her. Bonnie too had spent almost all the money she was saving to start up her own fashion house on my daughter. It pained me to see her sacrifice so much for me, but it hurt me even more to see my little girl suffer. She did not deserve any of these.

I suddenly felt a familiar touch on my shoulder, and I knew that it was Bonnie. "I think it is time you let Ethan know. He might do something. Ariana needs help, and she needs it soon. Her father is a billionaire, it shouldn't be that difficult. He could easily solve all her problems, and Ariana will be free." She persuaded me, and I nodded, knowing that she was making sense.

I didn't want to go back to Ethan, because I wanted to raise my daughter on my own at first. But when I had her, I decided to let him know. I believed it would be unfair to keep the news from him.

Just the day that I decided to tell him, Bonnie called me and told me that Ethan got engaged. I felt like I would only complicate issues between him and his fiancee if I tell him. So I kept the news to myself. I was doing so well, raising her on my own, until she fell sick.

I stood up, wiping my the tears that had pooled in my eyes. "I am going."

Bonnie's eyes widened. "Now? Isn't it too early? Won't he be on his way to work?" She checked her phone, and she shook her head when she saw that it was still 6:40 am.

"Maybe I will be more convincing if I stop him at that time. Please watch Ari for me."

Bonnie gave me a hug, and I could easily tell that she was feeling bad for me. "I will take good care of her. You can count me on that."

I then left the hospital, knowing that my daughter was in good hands, and I drove to the Howell's mansion.

Just before I got to the huge gates, I saw it open, and some luxurious cars began to drive out. I looked inside the compound to see Ethan about to enter the last car, a body guard holding out the door for him.

Like a mad person, I ran to him, but I was stopped by his men before I could get to where he was. I screamed his name, thrashing furiously against his men, and the commotion I was causing seemed to draw his attention. He looked towards me with a frown on his face.

"Leave her." He ordered, and they let me go at once. I hurried to him, thankful that he was at least ready to receive me.

"Ethan, please, I need to speak with you. I have something to tell you." I hurried to say, and he gave me a strange look like he was trying to remember who I was. I didn't blame him though, we only met once five years ago, and it was night.

"What do you have to say? I do not have the time for this." He checked his wrist, wanting to know the time.

"I am the girl you met at the club five years ago. Chloe, remember me?"

He frowned. "I know more than one Chloe. And if you don't mind, I will be leaving now."

He attempted to leave, but I grabbed his arm. I noticed the way his gaze followed where my hands connected with his body, but I didn't care.

"We had sex that night, and I got pregnant for you. Please, I only came here because our daughter is seriously sick and her life is in danger." I rushed to say. I knew that I sounded stupid, but what was I supposed to do?

"And you know I'm the father, how? You said you met me once in a nightclub and had sex with me. How am I sure you do not go about having sex with everyone? I couldn't have been the only one you have slept with, am I?"

I suddenly had the urge to hit him, curse him, do anything, but I knew that I needed to control myself. "Welcome to the twenty first century where paternity tests are carried out in cases like this." I bellowed at him. I then lowered my gaze. "Please, help me save my baby girl, our daughter. I beg you."

He shook his head, almost laughing. "You are one of them right? You think you can just trap someone because you threatened them with pregnancy?" He then turned to one of his body guards. "Take her away."

My heart broke at his cold order. He was totally different from the last time I saw him. "Ethan, please. Please, she needs your help. Ethan, Ethan, please, please..." I cried as his body guards dragged me out.

I didn't give up after I was thrown out. I followed his convoy and drove to his office. When he came down and saw me, I couldn't deny the irritation I saw in his face. It made the hope I had that he would help me dwindle.

"If you follow me inside, I will have you arrested." He warned me, before he entered the tall building.

I entered my car, confused whether I should just drive away or stay and wait for him. I could not leave when my daughter's life was still in danger. Suddenly I heard my phone beep, and I checked to see that it was Bonnie calling. I kept the phone aside. I knew she was worried, but I didn't know what to say to her.

I hit my steering in frustration, as tears welled in my eyes. I then lay my head on it, crying my eyes out.

I didn't know what how long I lay there, but by the time I raised by head, it seemed to already be noon. I fell asleep, and I only woke up to the sound of someone hitting my window.

I wind it down to know who the person was.

"Mister Howells wants to see you." A neatly and professionally dressed lady said to me, before heading back inside.

Mister Howells? Oh, that was his last name. I quickly came down from the car without thinking and followed after her.
