LENA'S POV

I blinked at the ceiling.

Familiar.

Wrong.

Warm sheets. Dimmed lights. A faint floral scent clinging to the pillow.

Leo’s mansion.

My body felt stiff but not sore. Just… heavy. Like I’d been filled with cement and left to set.

No sharp pain. No dull aches.

Nothing.

Not even a tickle where the burns should’ve been. I touched my neck, my arm. Smooth bandages. Warm skin. Numb nerves.

So I’d survived that too. The electrocution. The chaos. All of it.

Once again.

But the worst part wasn’t what happened. It was where I woke up.

Here.

Again.

There were bandages on my arms, carefully wrapped. Someone had changed me—my gown wasn’t the one from earlier. This was new. Soft. Clean.

My fingers brushed over my collarbone. The bandage was expertly done.

The door creaked open. I turned toward it, expecting a nurse or maybe one of Leo’s ever-present guards.

But it was Mrs. Thornton.

She carried a tray and a warm smile, but I could see the exhaustion in her eyes.

“Good morning, darling,” she

I woke up to silence. No movement beside me, no steady breathing that could only belong to Leo. The curtains were drawn tightly shut, blocking out all traces of daylight, and the heavy blanket was tucked securely around me as if someone had taken their time to make sure I didn’t get cold.I slid out of bed, feet touching the soft rug, the air in the room cool against my skin. My first thought was to check Leo’s office.Maybe he was working, like always. The office was empty. The desk was bare except for a closed laptop and a neat stack of papers. The leather chair was pushed in. He hadn’t been here in hours.I made my way downstairs, the scent of something sweet lingering faintly in the air. When I reached the kitchen, Mrs Thornton was there, stirring something on the stove. She looked up, smiling. “Oh honey.”“Hey,” I murmured, stepping in.“Come here.” She waved me closer, then pulled me into a hug before I could react. “I know meeting his parents didn’t go well.”I let out a faint,

The living room was grand and cold, all polished marble floors and tall windows spilling winter light. Leo’s hand rested at the small of my back as we stepped in.Two figures were waiting. His father was tall, square-shouldered, with silver hair combed neatly back.Dario? His mother looked elegant in a cream suit, her posture straight enough to cut glass.“Mother. Father,” Leo said, his voice calm but clipped. His father’s eyes flicked to mine briefly before returning to Leo. “You didn’t mention you were… bringing someone.”Leo’s grip tightened fractionally. “My wife,” he said evenly. “Lena Castelli.”That got their attention. Both parents turned to me fully, their faces not softening in the slightest.“Nice to meet you,” I managed, forcing a small, polite smile. His mother's eyes skimmed over me with slow precision. “Lena… who?”“Lena Lynx Grey,” I answered, keeping my voice steady. Then, after a small pause, “Castelli.”Something flickered in both their faces, subtle but there. A gl

I was still stretching under the covers when the sound of the door opening reached me. The faint creak was followed by Leo’s low footsteps across the rug. Before I could even lift my head, his shadow fell over me. He bent down, pressing a warm kiss to my lips.“Good morning,” he murmured.I made a sleepy noise in response, rolling halfway onto my side. “Morning.”“We have somewhere to go today,” he said, straightening a little while still sitting on the edge of the bed.I yawned, blinking up at him. “Where?”“My parents’ house.”The fog of sleep cleared instantly. I froze mid-yawn, staring at him like he’d just told me he’d sold me again. He raised a brow. “That bad?”I shook my head so fast my hair whipped around my face. “No. No. Another time.”His mouth twitched not quite a smile. “What’s wrong?”“It’s… weird,” I said, clutching the sheet a little tighter.“That’s not the real reason.” His tone softened, but the mafia authority in it left no space to dodge.I sighed. “I’ve never re

Marcello was leaning against the stone railing when I stepped into the courtyard, one leg crossed over the other, a faint curl of cigarette smoke drifting up from his hand. The afternoon sun warmed the stone under my feet, and a light breeze stirred the potted rosemary beside the wall.“I was looking for you,” I said.A slow smile curved his mouth. “Careful, Lena. Around here, saying that could start rumors.”I crossed my arms, raising a brow. “And what exactly would they say?”“That the boss’s wife has a soft spot for his right-hand man.” His grin widened a fraction.I shook my head with a faint smile. “I think I’ll survive the gossip.”He chuckled and took another drag before flicking the ash away. “So, what’s on your mind?”I stepped closer, feeling the warmth of the sun against my back. “That night… when you talked to Leo. You said something that stuck with me.”His brows lifted. “I say a lot of things.”“You know exactly what I mean.” I tried to hold his gaze. “You made it sound

The music inside the grand hall was soft, almost too polished to notice, like it was meant to be background noise for the clinking of glasses and murmured conversations.Leo’s hand stayed anchored at my waist the entire time, guiding me subtly from group to group. His tone was calm and authoritative as he spoke to the other men, his gaze occasionally cutting across the room, scanning for faces he knew or ones he didn’t trust.I tried to mirror his composed presence, smiling faintly when someone acknowledged me, but my mind kept replaying last night’s overheard conversation in sharp fragments.Even though his focus was on business talk, I felt him notice me, the slight way his hand flexed at my side, the quiet, questioning glances he shot down at me, his thumb brushed once against my hip in a way that wasn’t affectionate, but probing.By the fourth group, his patience must have run out. “Excuse us,” he said smoothly to the men, then turned me toward the balcony. The night air was coole

I pressed my back against the wall beside the slightly open door, barely breathing.Marcello’s voice came through calm, almost casual.“Why did you really buy her, Leo?”A pause. Then Leo’s voice, carrying that quiet weight he had when he didn’t feel like playing games.“What are you on about?”“You heard me.” Marcello’s tone had a faint edge of amusement, like they were just two friends talking over a drink. “I’ve been trying to figure it out. You don’t usually go out of your way for something unless there’s a bigger picture.”“I don’t have to explain myself to you,” Leo said, the words even but firmer now.Marcello didn’t seem fazed. “I’m just saying, you went through a lot. More than most men would. Having our guys follow her for weeks… showing up at the club yourself… then that whole setting her up with the auction as the cherry on top.”My heart thudded in my ears.Marcello continued, slow and deliberate. “If she’s just a superb hacker, fine. But you don’t usually need to spin th
