Alex POV: He Wants To Get Flowers

The penthouse is quiet when I let myself in, the city still dark beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows. It's 4:58 a.m. The digital clock on the microwave confirms it as I walk through the kitchen.

Jodie appears at the bedroom door, sheet gathered in one hand against her chest, hair loose around her shoulders.

"How is Dana? Is she okay?"

"She's fine." I shrug off my jacket and drape it over a chair. "Derek took her home."

I undress in the dark and get into bed, a

Alex POV: Alex Lost His Spot In The Club of Eight Alphonso Orsini and his wife are staring at me in quiet astonishment. The living room is thick with competing tensions. Orsini looks visibly angry, his jaw tightly set, while his wife looks disappointed. Together, their expressions form a wall of judgment. It’s unclear which one of them is directing their emotional fallout at me, and which one is processing the information I just gave them. I had just delivered the news about Jodie’s pregnancy. The moment the words left my mouth, Orsini had immediately called his wife into the room to hear the announcement too. For the past ten seconds, neither of them has spoken a word. They are just analyzing me.Finally, Mrs. Orsini breaks the silence. She asks, "Are you positive, Alex, that the child isn't yours?""I am positive." Orsini looks at his wife. "See? I told you. He said he didn't love Jodie. He led her on from the very beginning."Mrs. Orsini gives her husband a warning look. "Al,

Dana POV: Dana Leaves AgainDespite sleeping for only a handful of broken hours, I wake up at dawn with good feelings. The boys are awake in the living room and they're still talking in hushed tones like last night. Did they all sleep in the living room? I hear the sound of mom in the kitchen, cooking. I close my eyes and imagine just walking out there. I imagine sitting down at the breakfast table, filling a plate, and laughing with them as if the world is not shattering around me. I sigh, a bitter smile on my lips. The Travis family converged under one roof solely to deal with The Dana Problem. In the shower, I ask myself: Why does there always have to be a Dana Problem? My family would never actually use that phrase out loud. They love me too much to say it. But they don't have to. The air in this house is thick with it.Before finally slipping into sleep last night, I had heard Eddie’s voice say: “I just wish she would finally settle down.” He had sighed and asked, “Why does

Dana POV: Charles, Alex: None Is Good For Her"He doesn't love you, Dana." He takes a step forward, his eyes locked on me, completely ignoring the man standing beside me. "Believe me, he doesn't."Charles bristles, his posture turns rigid as he steps defensively in front of me. "What the hell, man?” he says. “What do you think you're doing showing up at my house like this?"Alex turns his gaze to Charles, his jaw clenches tightly. "Shut up."He looks straight back at me, his eyes filled with such intensity that makes me hold my breath. "If you go inside that house with him right now, you ruin everything, Dana. This is not who you are, please. Don't do this to yourself," he pleads. A cold spike of confusion pierces through my exhaustion.I ask him, "How do you even know where his house is, Alex?"Charles doesn't give him a chance to answer. He grips my hand firmly, his fingers squeezing tight and says, "Come on, Dana. Let's just go inside. Ignore him."He pulls me forward, and my fe

Dana POV: Alex, Just In Time. His car is sitting at the curb, a shiny, blue Mercedes-Benz. Charles marches eagerly around to the driver's side before realizing his mistake. He catches himself, a sheepish look on his face. He quickly jogs back around to the passenger side to open the door for me.We both spontaneously burst out laughing at the awkwardness.I get in and the premium interior wraps itself around me. Charles runs back to his side, slips into the driver's seat with energy. I giggle like a bashful teenage girl on a first date as he reaches for the ignition. He grips the steering wheel, his chest heaving slightly. "Damn, Dana. My hands are shaking."I look at him, my smile widening. "Easy, cowboy."He starts the engine, shifts into drive, and pulls away from the diner. When we pull into the driveway of his place, I lean forward to take it in. It’s a modern house on a beautiful, quiet street. I look through the windshield, note the open-plan design and the wide, expansive balc

Dana POV: Dana Gives Charles His Answer I check my watch for the third time in ten minutes and draw a sigh. Charles had texted saying he’d be here in ten minutes, but the clock is ticking past that mark. What on earth is keeping him?I lean back and look around the small, unassuming diner nestled on a quiet corner street downtown. The atmosphere inside is low-key. The perfect hiding spot from Jodie. Frankly, she’s probably too busy hiding from the law herself, considering federal marshals may be out on the streets trying to collar Fenton.I let out another long breath. The pretty young waitress steps up to my booth again, a order pad held ready in her hand. She offers me a warm, patient smile. "How about now, hun? Ready to order, or do you need a few more minutes for your friend?"I smile too. "Yeah, I'm ready now, please. Let's do it.""What'll it be?" she asks, and clicks her pen."I'll take the loaded breakfast platter, please," I tell her. "Thick buttermilk pancakes with maple

Alex POV: Charles, The Knight In Shining Armor The ringing of my phone startles me. I pick it up, about to silence another press inquiry, but the name on the screen stops me.“It's Jack, Dana's brother,” I say. I stare at the name in surprise. We had exchanged numbers during the funeral in New York. I remember that rainy evening on the balcony. I smoked and drank whiskey with Dana's protective brothers, trying to earn a shred of their respect. Stanton looks up from his laptop. "I can imagine exactly why he would be calling you right now. Can't you?""It can't possibly be to thank me for getting her off the hook, do you think?"Stanton lets out a dry, cynical bark of laughter and says, "Thank you? Don't flatter yourself, Alex."I answer: "Jack. Hi.""Hey," he replies and I can sense the uncomfortable awkwardness. "How's it going? Er . . . look, this is weird for me.""No, man, it isn't," I say quickly. "What's up?""Well, um, Dana has no idea I'm making this phone call," Jack says,

Alex POV: Jodie Is Well Connected I’m not sure if Jodie believed me about my sudden trip to Turkey, but quite frankly, I don't care.Stanton walks a step ahead of me, his leather dress shoes crunching loudly on the asphalt of the private tarmac. "Alex, you have to tell Jodie the truth now. You ca
