Four Years LaterDutton’s POV“Today, we stand on the precipice of knowledge and hold the future in our hands. Hold on to the possibility it can bring you, but don’t smother it in your grip.”With that, I walked off stage, and graduation hats went flying everywhere.“Dutton, you fucking rocked it,” Nathan announced.“Thanks, Nathan,” I replied.“Look at you, Mr. Valedictorian,” a familiar voice said from behind me. I turned around to see Morgan standing there. She looked more beautiful than I remembered. Her hair is now her natural honey blonde color. She’s wearing a beautiful, flowery summer dress that makes her look innocent and sweet.“Morgan! You came!” Nathan yelled and raced over to hug her. He picked her up and twirled her around.“I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” she smiled broadly.“Morgan, it’s so great to see you,” I said, wrapping my arms around her in a hug. God, she smells incredible.“Dutton, you look so grown up,” Morgan teased and ruffled my hair.“You look fantasti
Morgan’s POV“I can’t believe you let me buy so much fabric,” I beamed.“You deserve it, Morgan, plus, happy early birthday!” Nathan grinned.“You remembered,” I said, smiling.“Of course, you’re one of my best friends,” Nathan announced. “So, you’re actually going to make a dress before Saturday?””Absolutely, I’m going to be wearing pale blue for the ice theme,” I advised.“I have a blue suit I can wear,” Nathan told me.“Perfect, I’ll make you a tie out of the same material as my dress,” I said, excitedly.“Cool, we’ll be all matchy,” Nathan chuckled. The car pulled up in front of the girls’ dorm. Nathan helped me carry all the bags of fabric to the front door.“Thanks, Nathan,” I stated. “For everything, you’re the best.”“Shh… don’t say that so loud,” Nathan grinned. “People will expect too much from me.”I laughed, “They already do.”We waved our goodbyes, and I proceeded into the dorm with all the bags. I guess I’d better start designing and sewing.I walked through the lobby.
Four Months LaterMorgan’s POVEverything has changed. The closeness and friendship I had with Dutton is gone. I don’t know when it started, but I miss it so much. Normally, I would cry on Nathan’s shoulder when something like this happens, but he’s in a really bad place right now. Earlier this month, Nathan’s father was killed in a car accident, and then two weeks later, his mother up and left him with his grandfather. Not that his mother's leaving was a bad thing. She is a wretched, selfish, egotistical woman. It may hurt Nathan now, but he is definitely better off not having her in his life.Granted, Dutton is still civil to me, but the bond we had is gone. Why do I miss it so much? It’s not like he was my boyfriend or anything. Oh gawd, did I want Dutton to be my boyfriend? He turned thirteen at the end of August, and I turn fifteen in three days. He’s too young, isn’t he? Plus, he probably doesn’t feel that way about girls yet. As far as boyfriends are concerned, I don’t have the
Dutton’s POV“Holy shit, Dutton,” Nathan exclaimed. “You look eighteen dressed like that.”“Shut up, I do not,” I said, shooting him a look. Although I definitely did look older.“Honestly, you look older than me,” Nathan chuckled.“So, I take it this will do for tonight?” I asked.“Definitely,” Nathan replied. “Oh, by the way, I talked to Morgan yesterday.”“You did?” I questioned, trying not to look too excited.“Yes, she invited us up to Paris on the weekend. She has a fashion show and she wants us to go,” Nathan advised.“That would be so awesome,” I expressed. “I’ll book train tickets when we get home.”“Dutton, I have a jet,” Nathan laughed.“Oh, sorry,” I stated. “I’m not used to that lifestyle.”“Well, you'd better get used to it, Dutton,” Nathan told me. “You’re like the little brother I never had, so you’re family now.”“I don’t know what to say, Nathan,” I sat down on the bench in the store. “For the longest time, it’s only been my grandmother and me. My mom passed giving b
2 years laterMorgan’s POVI can’t believe I kissed Paul yesterday under the bleachers. Ugh… what was I thinking? It’s not like I even like him; it’s Nathan that I’ve had a crush on forever. Worst yet, I caught my lip on his braces, and now I’m probably going to have a scar. There was so much blood.“Dutton, what am I going to do?” I said, with my face in my hands. “I don’t want to screw up our friendship.”“Just tell him that,” Dutton replied. “Tell him, listen, Paul, I don’t want to screw up our friendship. I made a mistake, and I don’t have feelings for you like that.”“Why are you so smart, Dutton?” Morgan asked. “You always have the best answers for everything.”I leaned over and hugged Dutton hard. He really was a fantastic friend. So attentive, helpful, and always there for me. He pretty much had become my best friend over the last two years.I looked up, and Nathan and Paul were coming towards us.“Hey,” Paul said sheepishly when he reached us.“Hey,” I responded.“Listen,” we

I had stepped off the bus at the private prep school, and a bunch of rich jocks started ridiculing me for several reasons. First, I took the bus. Who would ever take a bus to a private school? Me, obviously. I was the school's ‘charity case’. Second, I wore glasses. Yes, I am near-sighted, something I couldn’t control. Third and most importantly, I was short. Another thing I couldn’t control, especially since I had skipped two grades. They didn’t care, though, as soon as I stepped off that bus, I was fair game for their torture and ridicule.“Hey, nerd,” One of them call
