The hidden passage was narrow and dark.

Elena ran beside Adrian, clutching the silver key.

Behind them, footsteps echoed through the underground corridor.

Charles was close behind.

“Keep moving!” he shouted.

Elena glanced over her shoulder.

“Where does this passage lead?”

Richard answered from behind them.

“The old cemetery.”

Elena frowned.

“The cemetery?”

“It was built behind the chapel.”

Adrian looked at his father.

“How do you know?”

“I helped build the passage.”

Charles gave him a suspicious look.

“Of course you did.”

They reached the end of the tunnel.

Adrian pushed against the stone door.

It opened.

Cold night air rushed in.

They emerged behind the abandoned chapel.

Elena looked around.

There was no sign of Margaret or Thomas.

Her heart tightened.

“We left them.”

Adrian stepped beside her.

“We'll go back.”

Richard shook his head.

“Not yet.”

Elena turned on him.

“My mother is in there.”

“And if you go back now, they'll use you to control her.”

Elena wanted to argue.

But she knew he was right.

She looked down at the silver key.

“Then what does this open?”

Charles took the key from her.

He examined it.

“There is a symbol.”

Elena looked closer.

Three interlocking circles.

Beneath them was a tiny letter.

C.

Richard's face changed.

“What?”

Elena noticed.

“You recognize it.”

Richard didn't answer.

“Tell me.”

He looked toward the chapel.

“Catherine.”

“Catherine Blackwood?”

Richard shook his head.

“No.”

“Then who?”

Richard hesitated.

“Catherine Vale.”

Elena frowned.

“Who is she?”

Richard stared at the key.

“She was Amelia's sister.”

Charles stepped forward.

“That makes no sense. Amelia was Margaret's sister.”

Richard looked at him.

“Amelia had two sisters.”

Elena's eyes widened.

“Two?”

“Yes.”

“Then why have I never heard of Catherine?”

“Because she disappeared before you were born.”

Charles looked at the key.

“Where did she go?”

Richard's voice became quieter.

“Into the agreement.”

Elena frowned.

“What does that mean?”

Richard pointed toward the chapel.

“Catherine was the person who originally created the agreement.”

Elena remembered the old documents.

“But I thought Alexander created it.”

“He changed it.”

Richard looked at the others.

“Catherine wrote the original terms.”

Elena stared at him.

“Why?”

“To protect the Vale family.”

Charles looked stunned.

“And Alexander betrayed her?”

“Yes.”

Richard continued.

“He took control of the trust, changed the agreement, and used the Blackwood family's influence to erase Catherine from the records.”

Elena looked at the key.

“Then Amelia knew.”

“She discovered the truth.”

“And Margaret?”

“She helped Amelia.”

“Then why did they disappear?”

Richard's expression darkened.

“Because Catherine left something behind.”

“What?”

“A ledger.”

Charles frowned.

“What kind of ledger?”

“One containing every transaction connected to the Blackwood trust.”

Adrian looked at him.

“And where is it?”

Richard pointed toward the cemetery.

“Under Catherine's name.”

They walked through the cemetery.

Rows of old graves disappeared into the darkness.

Elena held the key tightly.

“Which one?”

Richard stopped.

“There.”

A weathered tomb stood beneath an enormous tree.

The name on the stone was almost impossible to read.

CATHERINE VALE

Elena's heart pounded.

She approached.

At the base of the tomb was a small metal lock.

She inserted the silver key.

Click.

A hidden compartment opened.

Inside was a black leather notebook.

Elena picked it up.

The cover carried the same three-circle symbol.

She opened it.

The first page contained a single sentence.

If you're reading this, the agreement has failed.

Elena turned the page.

Names filled the next few pages.

Payments.

Dates.

Meetings.

Secret transfers.

Then she saw a name she recognized.

Richard Blackwood.

Beside it was a date from twenty-eight years ago.

Then another name.

Victoria Blackwood.

Then another.

Alexander Blackwood.

Elena's hands trembled.

Adrian took the notebook.

His expression changed as he read.

“My mother…”

He turned another page.

There was a handwritten note.

Victoria knows where the child is.

Elena stared at him.

“Which child?”

Adrian looked at the next line.

His face went pale.

“Me.”

Silence.

Richard stepped closer.

“That can't be right.”

Adrian looked at him.

“Then explain this.”

Richard took the notebook.

He read the entry.

His expression collapsed.

Elena noticed something else.

A second note had been written beneath the first.

If Richard discovers the truth, tell him his son was never the heir.

Adrian stared at the page.

“Then who is?”

A sound came from behind them.

Everyone turned.

Victoria Blackwood stood between the graves.

She was alone.

Her face was calm.

But her eyes were fixed on the notebook.

“Elena,” she said.

Elena stepped backward.

“What are you doing here?”

Victoria looked at Adrian.

Then at Richard.

Finally, she looked at the notebook.

“You should never have opened that.”

Adrian's voice hardened.

“What did you do?”

Victoria said nothing.

Elena stepped forward.

“You knew about the agreement.”

Victoria looked at her.

“Yes.”

“You knew my mother was alive.”

A pause.

“Yes.”

“You knew Lily was part of this.”

Victoria's eyes hardened.

“Yes.”

Elena's voice trembled.

“Then tell me the truth.”

Victoria looked toward the chapel.

“The truth is that none of you understand who the real heir is.”

She took one step closer.

“And if Charles Vale finds out before I can stop him, every person in this family will be destroyed.”

Elena stared at her.

“Who is the heir?”

Victoria's eyes moved to Lily's name written inside the notebook.

Then she whispered,

“Your daughter.”

Suddenly, headlights appeared beyond the cemetery gates.

A vehicle stopped.

A door opened.

A familiar voice called from the darkness.

“Victoria.”

Victoria's face went pale.

Charles turned.

“Who is that?”

Victoria whispered,

“Charles Vale.”

Then she looked at Elena.

“And he knows where Lily is.”

Margaret stared at Evelyn.“That's not true.”Evelyn didn't look away.“You know exactly who I'm talking about.”“No, I don't.”“Margaret, please. We've hidden enough.”Margaret shook her head.“I have spent years trying to understand what happened in that hospital. I raised Elena believing she was my daughter. I lost Matthew. I watched Daniel build a life around secrets. But I have never knowingly hidden another child.”Elena stepped closer.“Grandma, who is the fourth child?”Evelyn looked at her.“Someone who grew up believing they had no connection to the Vale family.”“Then tell us their name.”“I can't.”Charles gave a frustrated laugh.“Of course you can't. You appear with another mystery, make accusations, and expect everyone to believe you.”Evelyn turned toward him.“You know more than you're admitting.”“And you know less than you pretend.”Jonathan stepped between them.“Enough. We need to establish what happened before another person gets hurt by these lies.”Adrian picke

They were changed to protect several.”Catherine stepped forward.“You took my daughter.”“I saved your daughter.”“You separated me from her!”Evelyn lowered her eyes.“I know.”Catherine's voice broke.“Do you have any idea what that did to me?”“I do. And I have regretted it every day.”Charles moved closer.“You don't get to return after all these years and pretend you were protecting everyone.”Evelyn looked at him.“You're the last person who should question my decisions.”Charles's
