ログインMargaret stared at Evelyn.
“That's not true.”
Evelyn didn't look away.
“You know exactly who I'm talking about.”
“No, I don't.”
“Margaret, please. We've hidden enough.”
Margaret shook her head.
“I have spent years trying to understand what happened in that hospital. I raised Elena believing she was my daughter. I lost Matthew. I watched Daniel build a life around secrets. But I have never knowingly hidden another child.”
Elena stepped closer.
“Grandma, who is the fourth child?”
Evelyn looked at her.
“Someone who grew up believing they had no connection to the Vale family.”
“Then tell us their name.”
“I can't.”
Charles gave a frustrated laugh.
“Of course you can't. You appear with another mystery, make accusations, and expect everyone to believe you.”
Evelyn turned toward him.
“You know more than you're admitting.”
“And you know less than you pretend.”
Jonathan stepped between them.
“Enough. We need to establish what happened before another person gets hurt by these lies.”
Adrian picked up the paper Elena had been holding.
“The name written here belongs to someone Margaret knows. That's what Evelyn said.”
He turned toward Margaret.
“Is there anyone you have protected for years? Someone you helped without telling the rest of us?”
Margaret's expression changed.
Elena noticed immediately.
“Mother?”
Margaret looked at her.
“There is someone.”
Everyone waited.
“Years ago, before I married Daniel, I helped a young woman who had nowhere to go. She had a little boy. She was frightened, and she refused to tell me anything about her past.”
Evelyn nodded slowly.
“Go on.”
Margaret frowned.
“I gave them a place to stay for a few weeks. Later, I helped the woman find work. She eventually moved away with her son.”
“What's her name?” Catherine asked.
Margaret hesitated.
“Rose Williams.”
Evelyn closed her eyes.
Charles looked sharply at her.
“You knew?”
Evelyn nodded.
“Rose used that name after leaving the hospital.”
Margaret stared at her.
“You mean the woman I helped was the same Rose?”
“Yes.”
Margaret took a step backward.
“And the little boy?”
Evelyn's voice softened.
“He was the fourth child.”
Silence.
Elena looked from Margaret to Evelyn.
“Where is he now?”
“I don't know,” Evelyn replied. “Rose stopped contacting me many years ago.”
Margaret shook her head.
“But I know where she went.”
Everyone turned toward her.
“She left for a town outside Port Harcourt. She told me she had family there. I kept her last address because she never collected some documents I had stored for her.”
Adrian immediately reached for his phone.
“Do you still have the address?”
Margaret nodded.
“I believe so.”
Charles moved toward the desk.
“Don't go looking for that child.”
Adrian turned.
“Why?”
“Because you don't understand what you're dealing with.”
“Then explain it.”
Charles's expression tightened.
“The fourth child wasn't simply another baby in a family dispute. That child was the reason the original agreement was written.”
Jonathan frowned.
“That's not entirely accurate.”
Charles ignored him.
“Michael believed the fourth child had a claim that could invalidate the entire inheritance.”
Elena looked confused.
“Why would one child have more rights than the others?”
“Because of the person who gave birth to the child,” Charles answered.
Catherine stepped forward.
“Who was the mother?”
Charles hesitated.
Then he said, “A woman named Isabella.”
Evelyn's face changed.
“You have no right to speak her name.”
“Why? Because she was your friend?”
Jonathan looked at Charles.
“Isabella was not part of the Blackwood family.”
“No,” Charles replied. “But she knew the truth about Alexander.”
Adrian's expression hardened.
“What truth?”
Charles looked directly at him.
“Your grandfather promised Isabella that her child would inherit the Vale estate. When he changed his mind, she threatened to expose him.”
Evelyn shook her head.
“He didn't change his mind. He wanted the child protected.”
“Then why did Isabella disappear?”
Nobody answered.
Catherine approached Evelyn.
“Did you know her?”
Evelyn nodded.
“She was my closest friend.”
Elena's eyes widened.
“You knew the mother of the fourth child?”
“Yes.”
“Then why didn't you tell us?”
“Because Isabella trusted me with her child's life. I couldn't risk revealing the truth until I knew the person responsible for her disappearance was gone.”
Adrian glanced at Charles.
“Are you saying Charles was responsible?”
Evelyn looked at him.
“No. Charles was trying to find the child, but he wasn't the only one.”
Charles's face darkened.
“Who else?”
Evelyn slowly turned toward the staircase.
“Someone who has been searching for that child longer than any of us.”
A sound came from above.
Footsteps.
Everyone looked toward the doorway.
A man appeared at the top of the stairs.
He was dressed in a dark suit, holding a brown leather folder.
Jonathan's face went pale.
“Daniel?”
Elena turned.
“Father?”
Daniel descended slowly.
His eyes moved across the room before settling on Evelyn.
“So you've finally told them.”
Margaret stared at him.
“Daniel, what are you doing here?”
He ignored her.
Instead, he placed the folder on the desk.
“I came to stop this before it went any further.”
Adrian folded his arms.
“Stop what?”
Daniel opened the folder.
Inside were several documents, including an old birth certificate.
He pushed it toward Elena.
“Read the name of the mother.”
Elena looked down.
ISABELLA ROSE BENNETT.
Her breath caught.
“Bennett?”
Daniel nodded.
“Isabella was Margaret's older sister.”
Margaret closed her eyes.
Catherine looked stunned.
“You mean the fourth child was Margaret's nephew?”
Daniel shook his head.
“Not exactly.”
He removed another document.
This one contained the child's original birth details.
Then he placed a photograph beside it.
It showed a young boy standing between Isabella and a man whose face had been partially covered.
Elena studied the photograph.
“Who is the man?”
Daniel looked at Jonathan.
“Tell her.”
Jonathan remained silent.
Daniel's voice hardened.
“The fourth child wasn't just connected to the Vale family.”
He looked directly at Adrian.
“He was connected to yours.”
Adrian frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Daniel turned the photograph around.
On the back was a handwritten name.
RICHARD BLACKWOOD.
Elena's eyes widened.
“Richard?”
Daniel nodded.
“Richard wasn't adopted into the Blackwood family by accident.”
Adrian stared at him.
“Are you saying Richard is the fourth child?”
Daniel closed the folder.
“No.”
He looked toward the door.
“I'm saying Richard knows exactly where the fourth child is.”
And at that moment, Adrian's phone began ringing.
Richard's name appeared on the screen.
But before Adrian could answer, a message arrived.
DON'T TRUST DANIEL. HE KNOWS WHO THE CHILD IS BECAUSE HE HELPED HIDE HIM.
Adrian stared at the message.DON'T TRUST DANIEL. HE KNOWS WHO THE CHILD IS BECAUSE HE HELPED HIDE HIM.Daniel watched him.“What's wrong?”Adrian turned the phone around.“Richard says you helped hide the fourth child.”Daniel's expression barely changed.“Richard doesn't know what he's talking about.”“Then why is he warning me about you?”“Because he wants to turn you against me.”Elena stepped forward.“Enough. We need the truth, not another argument.”Daniel looked at her.“I've spent years protecting you.”“By lying to me?”“By keeping you alive.”The words silenced her.Margaret moved closer to Daniel.“You knew Isabella?”Daniel nodded.“She was my wife's sister.”“Then why didn't you tell me?”“Because Isabella made me promise never to reveal what happened to her child.”Margaret's eyes filled.“You let me believe she disappeared without explanation.”“She had to.”“Why?”Daniel opened his mouth, but Adrian's phone rang again.Richard.This time Adrian answered and put the ca

Elena couldn't move.Evelyn stood at the entrance, holding the photograph against her chest. For years, the family had searched for her. Some believed she was dead. Others believed she had abandoned them. But she was standing there.Alive.And apparently, carrying another secret.“What do you mean?” Elena finally asked. “What other child did you take?”Evelyn looked around the room.“Before I answer, I need everyone to understand something. The hospital records were not changed to protect one child. They were changed to protect several.”Catherine stepped forward.“You took my daughter.”“I saved your daughter.”“You separated me from her!”Evelyn lowered her eyes.“I know.”Catherine's voice broke.“Do you have any idea what that did to me?”“I do. And I have regretted it every day.”Charles moved closer.“You don't get to return after all these years and pretend you were protecting everyone.”Evelyn looked at him.“You're the last person who should question my decisions.”Charles's
Jonathan didn't move. The message remained on Adrian's phone, its words hanging over the room like a threat.ASK JONATHAN WHO HE BURIED TWENTY YEARS AGO.Elena stared at him.“Who did you bury?”Jonathan looked away.“Someone who should have stayed dead.”Catherine's eyes widened.“Jonathan!”He raised a hand.“Not here.”Charles stepped forward.“No. We're done hiding things. Tell us who was buried.”Jonathan's jaw tightened.“Michael Hayes.”Margaret gasped.Catherine staggered backward.“No,” she whispered. “Michael was alive when I was told he died.”Jonathan nodded.“I know.”Elena looked between them.“Then whose funeral did you attend?”Jonathan took a slow breath.“His brother's.”Adrian frowned.“Margaret just said the man she married wasn't Michael. Are you saying she married his brother?”Jonathan nodded.“Yes.”Margaret shook her head.“That's not what he told me.”“What did he tell you?” Elena asked.Margaret looked confused.“He introduced himself as Michael. The room fell silent.Elena stared at Margaret.“Michael Hayes was your husband?”Margaret nodded slowly.“Before I married Daniel, yes.”Catherine took a step forward.“That isn't possible.”Margaret turned toward her.“I wish it weren't.”“You told me Michael died before I discovered I was pregnant.”“I know what you were told.”Catherine's eyes filled with anger.“Then explain why you were married to him.”Margaret looked down at the photograph in Elena's hands.“Because someone needed to give him a reason to disappear.”Jonathan's expression hardened.“Margaret, be careful.”She ignored him.“Michael was already in danger when I met him. He had discovered something about the original inheritance agreement. Something that could have destroyed the Vale family.”Charles folded his arms.“And you expect us to believe you married him to protect him?”“No,” Margaret replied. “I married him because he asked me to.”Catherine shook her head.“Why would he ask you?”“Because he needed a le
Catherine read the message again.HER FATHER WAS NOT CHARLES VALE.For several seconds, she couldn't speak. Then she looked at Jonathan.“Who was my daughter's father?”Jonathan's expression became guarded.“I thought Charles was.”“So did I,” Catherine replied. “But Evelyn wouldn't have written that unless she knew something.”Adrian examined the photograph.“Could the message be referring to another man?”Richard shook his head.“The photograph was taken years after the child was born. Whoever wrote this wanted Catherine to understand that the truth had been hidden deliberately.”Samuel looked towards Catherine.“Did you have another relationship before Charles?”Catherine hesitated.“There was someone. But I was told he died before I discovered I was pregnant.”Jonathan stepped closer.“Who was he?”Catherine looked at him.“His name was Michael.”The name meant nothing to Elena. But Daniel, who had remained silent near the doorway, suddenly raised his head.“Michael what?”Catheri
