Elena couldn't move.

The man's words replayed in her mind.

I know what you're carrying.

How?

She hadn't told anyone.

Not even her mother.

She rushed outside.

“Wait!”

But the man was already walking toward a black car.

Elena ran after him.

“Who sent you?”

He stopped.

For a moment, she thought he would answer.

Instead, he turned.

“Ask your father.”

Then he got into the car.

Elena froze.

Her father?

What did her father know?

She returned to the house.

Daniel was standing in the hallway.

“Who was that man?”

Her father didn't answer.

“Dad.”

He looked away.

“You shouldn't have spoken to him.”

“Why?”

“Because some people are better left alone.”

Elena's suspicion deepened.

“You know him.”

Daniel's silence was enough.

“You know him,” she repeated.

“Elena, listen to me.”

“No. You listen to me.”

Her voice shook.

“Someone just told me he knows about my baby. Then he told me to ask you.”

Daniel's face changed.

Her mother appeared behind him.

“Baby?”

Elena's heart sank.

She had forgotten her mother was there.

Silence filled the room.

Her mother looked from Elena to Daniel.

“What baby?”

Elena couldn't speak.

Daniel closed his eyes.

Margaret's hand went to her mouth.

“Elena…”

Tears filled Elena's eyes.

“I was going to tell you.”

Her mother slowly sat down.

“You're pregnant?”

Elena nodded.

“When?”

“Three weeks ago.”

Margaret looked heartbroken.

“Does Adrian know?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because I had to protect all of you.”

Her father stepped forward.

“Elena—”

“You knew?”

Daniel stopped.

“You knew about Adrian's family. You knew what they could do. Why didn't you tell me?”

“I was trying to protect you.”

“Everyone keeps saying that.”

Elena wiped her tears.

“But nobody tells me the truth.”

Her father looked at her for a long moment.

Then he said quietly,

“There are things about the Blackwoods you don't know.”

Elena stared at him.

“What things?”

Before he could answer, headlights appeared outside.

A car stopped.

Daniel's face went pale.

“They found us.”

---

Adrian stepped out of the vehicle.

He looked at the unfamiliar house.

His assistant stood beside him.

“This is the address.”

Adrian stared at the building.

After weeks of searching, he was finally close.

He walked toward the door.

Then stopped.

Something felt wrong.

He had imagined this moment countless times.

He would ask Elena why she left.

He would demand the truth.

He would tell her he never stopped loving her.

But when the door opened, he wasn't prepared for what he saw.

Elena stood there.

Pale.

Terrified.

And with tears in her eyes.

Adrian's heart stopped.

“Elena.”

She couldn't answer.

His eyes searched her face.

Then his gaze dropped to her hand resting protectively over her stomach.

His expression changed.

“Why are you holding your stomach?”

Elena's breath caught.

Adrian stared at her.

Then he whispered,

“Are you pregnant?”

She couldn't lie anymore.

“Yes.”

The world seemed to stop.

Adrian took a step backward.

“Is it mine?”

Elena's tears fell.

“Yes.”

And for the first time since she disappeared, Adrian had the answer he had been searching for.

But he also had a hundred new questions.
