LOGINElaris’ POV
The elevator doors were just beginning to close when Cassian thrust his hand between the sliding panels, forcing the sensors to trigger and send the doors sliding back open.
"Don't you dare turn your back on me and walk away like this, Elaris," Cassian said, stepping directly into the elevator frame to block us from leaving while glaring at Enzo with pure contempt. "And you, Everhart, don't stand there talking to me about court threats, because who do you and Elaris think you are dealing with? You think some small-time corporate lawyer you hired can threaten the legal power of the Virelli family?"
"You still haven't changed at all, Cassian," I said, holding Casey tighter against my chest as I met his angry glare with complete calm, "you still think your family name and your money make you untouchable in this city, but you have no idea who you are dealing with anymore."
"I know exactly who I am dealing with," Cassian scoffed, taking another step forward into the elevator cab, his eyes shifting from me down to Casey, who buried his face into my shoulder to avoid looking at him. "I am dealing with my runaway wife who came back after six years with another man's kid, trying to intimidate me in my own building."
"My children belong to me and me alone, Cassian," I told him, keeping my voice low, firm, and steady so my son would not feel scared by his rising anger, "they have nothing to do with you, and Enzo is my closest business partner, so you will speak to both of us with respect or you will deal with the consequences."
"Your children?" Cassian repeated, a cruel, bitter laugh escaping his lips as he reached out his hand, intending to grab my upper arm to drag me out of the elevator cab and back toward his private office. "You think you can just bring a child into this city who looks like this and tell me he has nothing to do with me?"
Before his fingers could even graze the fabric of my suit jacket, I raised my right hand and slapped his incoming hand away with a loud, sharp crack that echoed off the walls of the elevator.
"Do not put your hands on me," I said, stepping back into the corner of the elevator while Enzo immediately shifted his weight to block Cassian's path, "you lost the right to lay a single finger on me, or to ask a single question about my life, the exact moment you handed me those signed divorce papers six years ago so you could go play house with Liora."
Cassian stood frozen for a second, staring down at his red hand in complete shock, as if he could not fathom that the woman who used to silently endure his cold distance in his mansion had just struck him in broad daylight.
"Elaris, you are out of your mind," Cassian growled, his jaw clenching tightly as he looked up at me with dark eyes full of disbelief, "you think you can hit me in front of my staff, bring this boy into my building, and expect me to just let you walk out that door?"
"I am giving you one final chance to handle this quietly, Cassian," I said, pointing straight at his chest while looking him dead in the eyes, "you take those documents on your table, you place your final signature on the city court registry, and you send them to my legal representative by tomorrow afternoon."
"And if I don't sign them?" Cassian challenged, crossing his arms over his chest as he stood his ground in the doorway, "What are your lawyers going to do against the entire Virelli legal department? We hold half the corporate judges in this state, Elaris, so your little threats mean absolutely nothing to me."
"Then you are going to find out very quickly that the world moved on while you were sitting in your office, Cassian," Enzo spoke up, stepping directly into Cassian's space and forcing him to take a half-step back out onto the lobby floor, "we are not asking for your permission, we are simply giving you the option to save yourself from a public court disaster that will tear your company's stock to pieces."
"Get your hands off the elevator threshold, Virelli," Enzo added, his voice dropping into a tone of pure authority as he pressed the door-close button on the internal panel, "or my security team downstairs will come up to clear the path for us."
"You think this man can protect you from me, Elaris?" Cassian shouted over Enzo's shoulder, pointing a finger at me as the doors began to slide shut once again, "You belong to this marriage until I say otherwise, and I am not letting you take that boy anywhere until I get a full explanation about who his father is!"
"I don't belong to you, Cassian, and I never will again," I said coldly, watching his angry face get cut off as the double metal doors finally clicked completely shut, sealing us inside the elevator as it began its fast descent toward the underground parking garage.
Casey pulled his face away from my neck, looking up at me with wide, worried eyes while holding onto my collar tightly. "Is that mean man going to follow us, Mommy?"
"No, sweetie, he is not following us anywhere," I reassured him, kissing his forehead softly before looking over at Enzo, who was already pulling his mobile phone out of his jacket pocket to call our legal head.
"He is completely delusional," Enzo said, shaking his head as he tapped on his phone screen, "he actually thinks you came back here broke and desperate, using some cheap lawyer to scare him."
"Let him keep thinking that for now," I replied, setting Casey down on his feet as the elevator reached the basement floor and opened up to our waiting car, "it will make it so much more satisfying when he finds out who he is actually fighting."
Cassian’s POVI sat completely alone behind my table in the dimly lit study, staring blankly at the dark screen of my laptop while the absolute silence of the mansion heavy around me made every single thought in my head echo with intense frustration and confusion.I leaned my back against the leather chair, pressed my palms firmly against my face, and tried to make sense of the wild chaos that had consumed my life ever since Elaris walked into my corporate office earlier this morning demanding my signature on our old divorce registry. No matter how hard I tried to focus on my financial work, my mind kept drifting straight back to the riverfront restaurant, replay after replay of the exact moment I shoved Liora's hand away from that little boy named Casey.I firmly believed in my heart that I had never once touched Elaris during the entire two years of our marriage, because I had spent those two years remaining cold, distant, and completely separate from her out of resentment for how s
Liora’s POVThe driver pulled the black car up to the front entrance of the Virelli mansion, and the second the vehicle came to a complete stop, I hurried out of the passenger seat without waiting for help, holding my orange-stained dress together with one hand while my five-year-old son Stanley sat quietly in the back seat with his nanny.I rushed straight up the front steps, led Stanley into the living area, and sat him down on the long sofa just as Cassian walked into the hallway through the front doors, his expression completely dark and distant after everything that had happened at the restaurant."Cassian, please, you have to listen to me before you make any sudden decisions about us," I cried out, stepping directly into his path while tears streamed down my cheeks, "I know I lost my temper at the restaurant, but I was just so overwhelmed and hurt by how Elaris treated me after all these years.""I told you at the restaurant that I do not want to hear any more of your excuses to
Elaris’ POVI pulled Casey tightly into my arms as the restaurant manager and his security guards stepped between us and Cassian, while the entire dining room full of people stared at us in complete silence."If you or Liora ever approach my children again, Cassian, I will make sure the police and my legal team handle you publicly," I said, keeping my voice loud and clear so every single person in the room could hear every word, "you have no right to come near my family, and I am warning both of you right now to stay away from us forever.""Elaris, please just listen to me for one second," Cassian called out, trying to take a step past the security guards, but Enzo stepped right in front of him, blocking his view completely."She gave you her final answer, Virelli," Enzo said, taking Cassandra's small hand while looking at Cassian with absolute coldness, "do not make another mistake today."We turned around and walked straight out of the doors, where our driver was already waiting wi
Cassian’s POVI followed Liora’s taxi through the city traffic after my investigator informed me that she had skipped her lunch delivery and was tracking Elaris’ car downtown. The moment my driver pulled up to the valet entrance of the riverfront restaurant, I stepped out onto the sidewalk, bypassed the host stand without saying a word, and walked straight into the dining room.A loud commotion was coming from the center of the room, and as I cleared the tall decorative plants near the aisle, I saw Liora screaming at the top of her lungs, her white dress soaked in orange juice as she reached down and aggressively grabbed the arm of six-year-old Casey, who was crying uncontrollably in his chair."Look at what you did to my dress, you worthless little creature!" Liora shrieked, her fingers digging deep into the boy's small arm as she shook him violently. An overwhelming rage surged through my entire body, and before Elaris or Enzo could even take another step forward, I closed the distan
Elaris’ POVThe waiter had just set down our drinks and taken our food orders when I noticed a shadow falling across the edge of our table, making me look up from my glass of water to see Liora standing right beside my chair with a fake, sweet smile plastered across her face."Elaris, I truly could not believe my eyes when I saw you walking through the restaurant," Liora said, smoothing down her designer white dress while looking down at me with a soft, pitying expression, "it has been six whole years since you abandoned the family without saying goodbye to anyone, so I just had to come over and see how you were doing after living out of the city for so long.""We are in the middle of a private family meal, Liora," I replied, my voice dropping into a cold tone as I rested my hands on the table, "so unless you have a legitimate reason to be standing near my children, I suggest you walk back to your own seat.""Oh, don't be so defensive, Elaris," Liora continued, letting out a small
Liora’s POVI walked through the ground-floor doors of the Virelli corporate building carrying a lunch bag, smiling at the front desk security guards who immediately bowed their heads to greet me as the future lady of the estate. Cassian had been ignoring my phone calls all morning, so I decided to drop by his office unannounced to remind him about our engagement party plans and make sure he knew I was still the most important person in his life."Good morning, Miss Liora," the head receptionist said, stepping out from behind her counter to smile at me, "are you heading up to Mr. Virelli's private office?""Yes, I am bringing him lunch since he was too busy to pick up his phone today," I replied, keeping my voice sweet and gentle as I walked past her toward the private VIP elevator bank at the back of the lobby. Before I could swipe my keycard to call the elevator down, the indicator light flashed green, and the heavy doors slid open right in front of my face.I took a half-step back
