CHAPTER SIX

AIDEN'S POV

I was so lost in my thoughts as soon as Mia left my office.I was thinking about all the possibilities of what she said and I couldn't come up with anything.

I tried remembering that night in Texas but my mind came up blank.

I thought about giving Jordan a call. I know we were supposed to go clubbing today but with the news I heard right now, I was no longer in the mood for that.

I picked up my phone to give him a call.However, I saw him and Audrey right in my office. I must have been so preoccupied in my thoughts that I didn't hear the door open.

"Why do you look like you have seen a ghost"? Jordan said as soon as I took in their presence.

"It would have been better if I did see a ghost for real. You came just at the right time, Jordan. I was just about to give you a call."

"What happened? Audrey and I, just saw your Personal Assistant leaving your office with tears? Did you two fight again?"

"You need to take it easy with her, Aiden. We ladies are very fragile." I heard Audrey comment.

"I curse the day I accepted that woman to be my Personal Assistant. She is nothing but a troublemaker and a lying gold digger who will do absolutely anything for money." I said with anger laced in my voice.

"What did she do now to make you this furious? I mean, since this woman came into your life, it has always been one complaint to another, from you. If you can't stand her then you fire her. She is working for you for goodness sake. Not the other way round."

"She didn't give me that satisfaction to do it myself. Gosh!! How I despise her. I hope this will be the last time I set my eyes on her. Can you imagine she accused me of raping her? Someone that I wouldn't even sleep with in normal circumstances."

"She did WHAT ? But how and when?" Jordan exclaimed.

"According to her, it was on the 10th of May in Texas. The same day you and I visited that town. How can that be and I wasn't aware of my own actions?"

"That rings a bell. But are you sure she isn't trying to black mail you for money?"

"That was my thought exactly. So I wrote a cheque of ten million dollars and gave it to her and even told her that I will double it if that wasn't enough for her. But she ripped it into pieces."

"You did WHAT?.That was so wrong of you Aiden."

Audrey who has been listening to all these without saying a word said to me.

"What do you mean by that? What was I supposed to do? We are talking about a woman whom I have never set my eyes on before she came here to work for me. And now she's suddenly accusing me of rape.What do you think she is after? Shouldn't you be more concerned about your brother's image and life?"

"Look Aiden, you are my brother and I will be real with you! Not everyone is enticed by money and not everyone is set out to destroy you, certainly not the likes of Mia. I have seen her and interacted with her before. She doesn't strike me as that kind of person. She wouldn't do that. My goodness!! Not every problem can be bought out with money. I need to go fix this mess you made for yourself. Hopefully, she will still be in her office by now."

"Don't waste your energy.She is just an attention seeker. She is probably out of this building as we speak. She said she quits which I'm grateful for. And I'm sure she must have left by now."

"And you let her go? Someone accused you of rape and you gave her a huge amount of money but she rejected it. She then told you she quits and you let her go?"

"What would you have me do? Beg her or perhaps, lick her feet just so she stays. Hold on, are you taking her side here? Do you believe that I raped her?"

"I'm not taking sides here. All I'm saying is instead of adding fuel into a burning fire, you should have quenched the fire at the moment before seeking for that which caused the fire."

" What are you ……………" But Jordan cut me off before I could complete my sentence.

"Both of you should cut it out,would you? We are in the middle of something here. This is not the time to put blame on anyone."

I glared at him but kept quiet still.

"I can't reason with you right now. I need to check if she's still in the building." With that said, she left angrily making sure to slam the door loudly on her way out.

I sighed. Women!!!

"Aiden, Audrey is right, you know. I didn't want to say it when she was here. This is a very delicate matter. I know you let your anger and pride get in the way of your reasoning. If I was the one, I would have done the same thing you did. But hearing Audrey's argument, you need to be careful. And looking very closely at Mia today, she kind of looks very familiar like I have seen her before."

"Not you too Jordan I don't need another blame from you."

"I'm not blaming you. All I'm saying is that, there could have been a possibility that she isn't lying and neither are you. Maybe someone set you up. What we need to do now is to investigate this situation in order to find out who is out there to get you."

"Who else if not that crazy woman."

"You might be wrong here. You may have a bigger enemy to worry about than Mia. However, let's not draw conclusions yet."

I was so pissed at Audrey and in a way, pissed at Jordan too. For even thinking that I did that. How can I rape a woman without any knowledge of it?

But just like he said, we need to investigate. I called my private investigator Mr Q demanding for his presence in my office.

Few minutes later, he came around. I briefed him of the incident and gave him an address of the company that it took place in.

I equally gave him a photograph of Mia Anderson asking him to run a background check on her. I sternly told him to keep this a SECRET as it could destroy my reputation if eventually it was true.

I was literally fuming with so much anger with not just Mia, but my sister Audrey. I really don't know what has gotten over her; as to why she should take a stranger's side.

She should be defending me and not Mia. If she wasn't my sister, I would have walked her out of my office and put her in her place where she belongs. How can she do this to me?

I felt so betrayed by her actions. Even Jordan too seems to be siding her. It feels like everyone is against me. I began to sweat profusely even with the air conditioner on.

"Are you alright Aiden? Why are you sweating so much like this?"

"I'm not alright Jordan. I'm just trying to figure out how I was able to rape her without drawing attention from the people around. The more I think about this, the angrier I get. How can she do this to me? This explains her so much anger for me and her rubbish side comment every now and then. To think that I lost a big contract because I thought she was a responsible person. Unknown to me that she was just waiting for a convenient time for her to strike."

"Try not to dwell so much on this for now, Aiden. What you should be considering right now is the next action to take if this happens to be true."

"What are you saying Jordan? How can it be true? "

"If that were to be the case Aiden,how can you explain the blood stained sheet you woke up to? I could remember you complaining about how unhygienic they were."

"I'm not saying you intentionally raped her, neither am I saying that you did at all. All I'm saying is we need to come up with a plan just in case you are actually guilty. This might be someone's plan. Maybe, just maybe, your drink was spiked with some sort of drug that influences someone's actions without their knowledge. There have been some cases like this before."

He was right. Instead of dwelling on my hatred for Mia, I should be thinking about the way out. Someone is out there to get me.

I laughed evilly in my mind.

They've got another thing coming if they think they can bring me down. No one can win against me .
