Chapter 32

Rachel’s POV

Later in the evening, I was sitting in my room. The evening light barely made it through the thick curtains, making the room feel darker than usual—but maybe that was fitting. It felt warm and comforting.

Suddenly, my phone lit up. I glanced at the message from Jacob.

“I’m sorry. I’m just going through a lot at work. I’ll call you when I’m free. I’m at work.”

I sighed and dropped my phone. I knew he was just having a rough time. Jacob was never like that.

I wanted to call him, but I stopped myself, knowing he was still at work and it might disturb him.

A thought suddenly crossed my mind—I missed Jacob so much. I wanted to see him, even if just briefly. I suddenly thought of sneaking out to see him.
