Chapter 6: A Fragile Trust

Nathan stood at the window of their latest safehouse, his gaze sweeping over the city skyline as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting an orange and pink glow over the buildings. He felt a mix of awe and unease; the beauty of the moment was marred by the constant fear of being discovered. They had been on the run for weeks now, and he had grown increasingly aware of the toll it was taking on him and his team.

Miranda stood at the opposite end of the room, her hands clasped behind her back as she surveyed the space. She had insisted on checking every room and exit for potential security breaches, and although Nathan understood the necessity, he couldn't help but feel a pang of irritation. He wanted to trust her completely, but his past experiences made it difficult to let down his guard completely.

"Everything looks secure," Miranda said, her voice breaking through his thoughts. "I've instructed the team to take their positions and keep watch throughout the night."
