Chapter 29

It has been an incredibly stressful two days, the longest of my life.

Ever since Maddie revealed that I am the father of her kids, I haven't been able to think straight.

With Aiden kidnapped, I feel like I'm losing my mind. Just a week ago, I was lying in the hospital poisoned; now I have twins, and one of them is missing.

I could feel the world falling apart around me, and there was nothing I could do but wait for the investigation to unfold.

I made calls to all my contacts in the FBI and police. We didn't go through the usual channels because Maddie believes there is a mole in the city police department.

"Any news?" Alex and our friend Mark entered the office.

"No, there isn't a lot of ground to cover."

"I still think it was a wrong call not to involve the police. Greta thinks so too," Alex said.

"Yeah, but Madison doesn't trust the police," I replied. "Madison, huh? We on a first-name basis now?"

"Stop it, Alex. A child is missing. His child," Mark said, pointing at me.
