George’s mother was absolutely surprised when she saw all six of us pull up to her house. George assured her we’d be done by tomorrow; not all of us though, everyone except Olivia and my mom.

My mom said they would also leave the next day and find a hotel to stay at until they figured something out. Maya then said her offer was still available, which led to another round of arguments. However, George’s mother was welcoming enough that she insisted they both stay there for the meantime.

His father was also accommodating. He figured they could use this as a chance for both families to bond.

I didn’t mind, but I thought they’d be inconveniencing them. George thought otherwise.

Dinner was rowdy and everyone was talking at once. Olivia recounted the story about how she perceived the smell of the fire and was confused for a second. She thought her senses were playing tricks on her but as soon as she told our mom, mom told her to take her valuables outside and call the fire
