Chapter 6

Arianna

I woke up with a headache. My phone was also blowing off.

“What time is it?” I yawned, asking no one in particular as I picked up my phone to check. It was now late in the afternoon.

I could not believe that I had slept for that long.

I unlocked my phone to see why my phone was blowing off and what I saw shook my insides.

The social media post about Dean and Vivien had gone viral with a lot of likes and comments from the people of the pack.

“Now this is a better-suited mate, not that gold digger!”

“Our Alpha looks so good with her. She will make a great and strong Luna of our pack.”

“Thank goodness that useless she-wolf is out of the picture. It’s now so glaring why she wanted to trap Alpha Dean with marriage!”

The pack members all had one view or the other, but one thing did not change. They all had bad, awful, and disgusting things to say about me.

My stomach churned as I read the comments. I was furious inside of me.

They were all saying derogatory words, not knowing the whole truth. They did not know how long Dean and I were together.

But how would they?  Dean himself had never really claimed me as his in front of the whole world. I had always remained in the shadows.

I thought I was the victim, but it turns out that I have been made into the villain in this story.

I bowed my head in complete sadness and hurt. Tears had started dropping from my face now, hot fresh tears were streaming down. I felt wronged.

Why was I always so unlucky? Did I deserve this happening to me?

I had a lot of unanswered questions flowing through my mind. Just as I was thinking about it in anger and hurt, a message came in.

It was none other than Vivien.

What does she want from me this time? Hasn’t she done enough?

“I won bitch, deal with it! See you never!” The message read.

I could almost read the message in her exact same voice and tone. It had mockery and triumph written all over it. I could see her laughing wickedly in my imagination.

I turned off my phone immediately. I could not take it anymore.

I bawled my eyes out in pain and frustration.

I had thought leaving the pack would save me the little dignity I had left, but everything and everyone were turning against me now and that was looking impossible.

It looked like I was being banished from the pack after committing a grave sin, a sin that was obviously committed by those two.

I could not help but wonder; Who would believe me if I tried to defend myself, telling them I am the victim in this story?

I needed a drink, a strong wine that could help me get those thoughts out of my head. To give me some comfort.

I called the hotel front desk through the bedside telecom and made my order.

It was now almost twenty minutes of me waiting for my drink, but none came.

“What is happening? What is causing the delay? I need my drink right now!” I exclaimed.

I tried to use the telecom once more to find out what was causing the delay, but it was not connecting.

“I’d be damned!” I exclaimed with exasperation as I gave up on the telecom after trying a few more times.

I was afraid that I might just drown completely in my sorrow if I waited any longer without getting what I wanted.

I got up immediately, as if shocked by an electric.

“I guess I have to get it myself,” I said sadly, walking out of the room. It was really glaring that the odds were truly not in my favor.

I got out and started making my way to the reception. But before I could walk too far, I saw a man walking towards me with a bottle of wine in his hand. He had on a face mask.

The first thing I noticed as soon as I saw him was how good his features looked, the face mask making his eyes look more mysterious and sexy. I could not believe a mere hotel attendant could look that good.

He was putting on a tailored suit and he had his hair impeccably styled. The sleeves of his shirt were rolled up to his elbows, making him look so outstanding, I must say.

“Wait a minute, what the heck am I doing?” I asked myself as I jumped out of my daydream. How could I even look at a man the same again after what I had just gone through?

I had to quickly come back to my senses.

It looked like a switch had been turned on in my head earlier, a switch that I have now instantly turned off.

They are all the same! They can’t be trusted, Arianna !

I changed my expression to an angry one immediately.

“What took you so long?” I asked with a slightly raised voice, snatching the drink from his hand.

He looked surprised. Totally surprised, I could figure it through the way he squinted his eyes.

But I did not care, all I needed to do right then was to go into my room and pour the wine down my throat.

“What are you…” He tried to say, but I had already turned away, heading back in the direction of my room.

“What a strange attendant. Is he not supposed to apologize to me?”

My strides were fast and calculative. I was not about to let an attendant ruin my mood some more. I was just too sad and down for an additional altercation.

“Well, I will file a complaint later. For now, I really need to get down to it.” I said, an air of finality in my tone as I made a turn, going into my room.

“This tastes nothing like alcohol,” I said with obvious irritation, staring at the wine in front of me after settling down to drink it.

It was not until the real room service attendant came, that I realized that the man from earlier was not an attendant.

I had lashed out at the wrong person and even took his drink. I knew I had to apologize.

I quickly rushed out of the room to find him and say sorry to him for behaving like that.

Lucky for me, he was just about to get inside his room when I saw him. I instantly called out to him.

“Hello there.”

The sensation I had felt earlier when I saw him at first came back. My lips quivered and I could not get over how truly handsome he looked. But then, I had to focus.

He looked back to see me and a surprised look seemed to have flashed across his eyes, but then I saw it disappear just as soon as it came.

“Oh, you are back.”

“What might you want this time? I’m afraid I do not have any more drinks you could take.” He said, showing me his empty hands.

I almost died from embarrassment.

“Look, I am really sorry about earlier. It’s not what you think.” I said, not knowing how to continue my apology.

“Hmm, I see.” He said, folding his arms and it seemed like he was interested in hearing more.

“I took you for the room service attendant because I had ordered a drink from them also. And you were.. holding a drink.” I dragged the last part out as embarrassment filled me once more.

“Amusing.” He responded simply. I was surprised, wondering if that was all he had to say to me.

“I am really…” I tried to say, but then I heard a familiar male voice interrupt my words.

“Is this your real reason for breaking up with me? To be with your new man?”

I turned around to see it was Dean, standing there in all his glory. His eyes were bloodshot as he looked from me to the stranger and back to me.

I froze, speechless and not knowing what to do. What was he doing here? How did he find me?

“Wha..what are you doing here Dean? How did you find me?” I stuttered and managed to get out.

“We need to talk, right now!” He said with an authoritative tone. That was when I regained my mind and looked at him with anger.

“We have nothing to talk about Dean! Leave me the heck alone. Go and be with your Vivien!” I yelled at him angrily, but he was not having it.

He stepped forward and grabbed me by the arm, yanking me to go with him.

“Let me go!” I fought against him powerlessly, but I was no match for him as usual.

I had almost given up when I heard a strong, cold voice from behind as Dean dragged me.

“Let her go, right now!”

The universe seemed to come to a standstill immediately.

Dean stopped dead in his tracks. The look of unbelief and shock plastered on his face.

I was also shocked. I wondered who exactly this man could be that he would order the Alpha to stop.

“What was that?” Dean asked as he turned around to face the stranger. He probably wondered if he had heard right.

“I said, Let Her Go!” He repeated, his voice daring, emphasizing the last part.

Arianna~Flashback Continues ~At first I did not pay attention to where we were. All I wanted was to get far away from the Queen mother at that moment, so I didn’t seem to mind where Alpha Ryder took me.Alpha Ryder’s mother was probably out to get my head, owing to what just happened, she was probably about to bring those threats alive, and I was not going to wait while that happened. At that moment, I depended on Alpha Ryder’s help, even though he was the cause of all that happened in the first place. My life had turned out like this, all thanks to his plan. A plan that I didn’t even know about yet.“Come in here,” he said with a steady voice as he opened the door and guided me inside. The door shut behind us with a soft click, a sound that somehow echoed in the silence, far louder in my chest than it should have. The moment we stepped in, I looked around, a good look to see where we had just entered. And I saw clearly. The dark wooden pillars, the heavy velvet curtains, the gold

Arianna I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window. My eyes fluttered open slowly, taking in the soft morning light that spilled across the room, it was warm, gentle, and almost too peaceful to be true. But that peaceful feeling didn’t last a second. As my vision cleared, the room slowly came into focus. The tall, dark wooden pillars stood at each corner, polished to a shine. Heavy velvet curtains framed the windows, their deep color making the morning light look softer as it filtered in. Gold accents ran along the walls and furniture, giving the entire room a warm, rich glow.It was elegant, it was grand, it was powerful. And definitely not the room I had slept in before. It was glaring to a fault. My breath hitched and my heart raced as though it was about to beat out of my chest. I pushed myself up slightly, my eyes darting around, trying hard to locate something, anything I could at least recognize. But the more I looked, the faster panic crept up my spine. And t

RyderI could not believe what I had just done. Did I just kiss Arianna? I could not pinpoint the force that pushed me to land my lips on hers. All I knew was that, I wanted to do it so badly as I watched her lips move when she was asking me all of those questions.I remembered being at a loss for words, trying to figure out the best way to explain my public declaration to her. I did not ever imagine I was going to kiss her.My plan was different, even though I knew that there was some kind of force between us, something that was dragging me towards her, this was not the way I wanted it to turn out.I wondered if she was going to believe my words and what I was about to propose, now that I had moved faster than myself. But then, I still could not seem to regret it. It felt like the right thing to do in that moment, if Rufus had not interrupted. All of these thoughts went through my head as I shot Rufus a look. If only looks could kill, he might have been six feet under. Then I heard

AriannaI stood still in the hallway, far away from the chaos that had just threatened to swallow the trajectory of my entire life. Far away from the, was I to say ‘madness’ that had just happened?I did not know what to call it, nor could I tell what he was thinking. He seemed to have planned and decided on something, all on his own, without ever telling me he was going to do that, until he did.Now I was not ready to move or bulge from the spot I stood until I heard the explanation he had for me. That was probably the only last thin thread of what could make sense or make me see the direction he was going.Beta Rufus was right earlier. What if Dean would see the broadcast of this evening and decide that I had just jumped from the fry pan, straight into the fire? Into the pit of hell?Who knows if that was the direction my life was heading with everything that just happened?‘I am not going to give Dean the satisfaction of seeing me down. Even Vivien would mock the life out of me.’ I

RyderI inhaled slowly, preparing to speak—preparing to address the betrothal, to end that chapter once and for all. The entire hall leaned forward, waiting for the words that would undoubtedly set this kingdom on fire. But just as I opened my mouth—“STOP!”My mother’s voice sliced through the air like a blade.Every head snapped toward her, including mine. She had risen slightly from her seat, one hand gripping the armrest as though she needed to hold herself down to keep from lunging forward. Her eyes locked onto mine, warning blazing in every inch of her expression.Of course she didn’t want me to continue. If I spoke about the betrothal…If I publicly dissolved it right here…It would be over for her. It would be over for her plans, her alliance dream, her control. It would mean she had lost, not just the fight, but the entire battlefield. She couldn’t allow me to say those words. Before I could respond, she drew in a tight breath and turned her attention toward Elder Brann, her

RyderSeeing Arianna on the floor like that made something in my chest twist painfully. The look on her face, the look of shock, betrayal, and pure devastation, it hit me harder than any blow I’d ever taken.I had promised her I would set the record straight, but I never told her how I was going to do that. I never told her that instead of debunking the rumors, I would be confirming them.If she had known the truth, she never would have stepped foot into this hall with me, she never would have taken my hand. She never would have trusted me long enough for me to protect her the way I knew I needed to.She would have run, far from me, far from this pack, far from everything that was about to explode. She would never have followed me back into the palace grounds. And that was exactly why I kept it from her. This was the only way I could protect her.“Why did you do this?” she whispered, her voice trembling as tears slid down her cheeks, as though something were breaking. “You promised me
