The real Don

Nikolai’s POV

I walked into the Headquarters of the Vetrov group of companies, I had been gone for four years and everything looked out of place.

My brother Luca was clearly not holding this place up to the standard our father had left it. And how could he? He was never interested in this life, he wanted to study and get a career outside of the Bratva, but I convinced him to stay.

Now Luca is dead, and while I am not sure between our two sworn enemies, the Sokolovs and the Barinovs, which was responsible for his death, I have taken it upon myself to find out the truth and get justice for him. I owed him as much.

With Lev, my second in command, by my side, I walked into the meeting room where ten older men were waiting for me around the long table. They had been arguing between themselves before I walked in and the room went cold.

“Mr. Vetrov, welcome back home.” Sergei Volkov, the chairman of the board, said to me in a rush of words.

I hummed and silently took my seat. Lev was standing behind me in a black suit and his hand resting on his strapped gun.

“Mr. Vetrov, first of all, I want to offer my sincere condolences over the death of your brother…”

“Mr. Volkov, send your condolences at the funeral,” I cut him short. “I am here for a purpose.” I warned strictly.

“Oh yes, of course Sir. We heard you were coming to review the arrangements here at the company.”

“Then you heard wrong. I didn’t come here to review arrangements, Sergei. I came here to take over and it appears that I will no longer be needing you all.” I announced.

“Huh?” he muttered with a look of shock on his face. “I am sorry, Mr. Vetrov. I know you have not been around but it is not the way things work around here.”

“Quiet!” I yelled and he trembled, involuntarily sitting his ass down.

“I don’t care how things are run here. My brother had given you four years to lead. You accomplished nothing. So from now on, you speak when spoken to. Is that understood?”

“Ye… Yes sir!” he stuttered, a look of terror on his face.

“Good. Now you listen, because I am a fair man, I will give you two months to clean up your mess and produce excellent results. If after two months, I am not impressed, I will have your heads on spikes, do you understand?” I asked in a low deep voice, making sure they understood that I meant every word I said.

“Yes sir, clear as day.”

“Perfect. Have a great day gentlemen.” I smiled and stood up.

The place was as quiet as a graveyard as I left. It wasn’t until Lev and I walked out to the elevator that I began to hear them murmur behind.

I had come home to make everything right, and this was just the start.

*

Next we walked into a cold room; it was a meat freezer under a Bratva-owned Restaurant.

There were three men on their knees in the freezing room, a sack thrown over their heads and their hands tied, with two armed men watching over them.

“These are the traitors amongst our ranks, Boss.” Lev reported.

“Hmm… So these are the men who have chosen to betray their own? Take the sacks off their faces!” I ordered.

“Yes Sir.” Lev obeyed, unveiling them.

I looked at their pitiful faces and clenched my fist in anger. These men had chosen to steal from me, they didn’t even steal personal funds but they dared to steal from Bratva accounts, and they had also been tipping off the feds.

Coming home to Moscow, I didn’t just intend to take over the business; I was going to expunge our ranks of corruption and theft. My brother was soft and they had grown bold to steal from their own boss, by Bratva law, the punishment for such crime was death.

“You have all been found guilty of crimes against the brotherhood, as Don, I sentence you to execution by gunshot.” I announced.

The men looked terrified, one of them begging that I spare his life. The two armed men raised their guns to the back of the traitors’ heads but I signaled them to stand down.

“Untie them!” I ordered.

“Boss?” Lev muttered, staring at me in surprise.

“I said, untie them!” I shot him a warning glare.

He immediately signaled the men and they untied the men.

“Give me your gun,” I said to Lev and he handed me his handgun.

“Now I do not believe in executions, every man has a right to defend himself in the face of death, and so I will give you guys an opportunity to do so. Shoot me first and you get to walk out here alive.” I announced in a cold voice as I threw the gun to the floor in front of them.

Lev once again turned to me in shock, silently questioning my actions.

The first man stared down at the gun and raised his head back up at me, his eyes dashed to the gun once again and I could tell he had made his choice.

He immediately tried to grab the gun, but before his hand could reach it, I fired a bullet into his head and he dropped dead.

The second man dived as well, he managed to pick the gun and point it at me, but before he could pull the trigger, I shot him right in the chest.

The last man looked terrified, his eyes rising from his dead comrades and the unfired gun on the floor to me; he bowed his head to the floor immediately and began crying.

“Please Boss, forgive me I beg you. I have a family; I am a father of three young kids, please spare my life, Master.” He wept like a child.

I groaned, clenching my fist as I stepped over the dead bodies to reach him. “I hate traitors, but do you know what I hate more than traitors? Fucking cowards!” I yelled and kicked him hard on the stomach.

“Ahh!” he groaned and tumbled.

“Take this man; I want his death to be slow and painful. Hang him with his head down and make him suffer till the last breath,” I spat in disgust.

“No!” The man immediately jumped and tried to reach the gun but I kicked him hard on the head with my shoe sole, knocking him unconscious.

“Take him away!” I ordered.

The two armed men picked him up and dragged him out of the cold room. I turned to Lev who offered me a handkerchief to clean my hands.

“Find out if any of them had children, give them a new identity and a new home. Our ties with their family come to an end today, the Vetrov family is no place for traitors, make the word known.” I ordered as I turned to walk out of the storeroom.

A real Don has arrived and all of Moscow will soon come to understand that.

“Before I forget Sir, the Sokolov Family has signed the alliance pact, you are scheduled for a wedding tomorrow.” Lev announced.

I wasn’t surprised to hear that, I knew Anya would come around. The marriage was bigger than the both of us, it was important that it happened.

“Hmm… Then I better find a suit that fits. After all, it is not every day that a Vetrov marries a Sokolov.” I said with a little grin.

Anya's POV“Nikolai,” I muttered in surprise. “How did you get out?”“Ah! So you see, I happened to make some new friends at the police station. Long story cut short, I got out and I got my stuff from the cab guy, so here I am, Love. That is the beautiful thing about America, it is the land of freedom!” he chorused, spreading his arms dramatically.“Ugh! I liked you better when you didn’t talk much.” I groaned. “Wait… How did you even find me?” I asked. He smiled and tried to caress my cheek but I slapped his hand off.“You see, that is the thing honey. We are meant to be together, so I am always going to find you, Carino.” He said gleefully.“Oh God, he speaks Spanish now. Did I download the wrong Nikolai at the airport? When did you become such a geek?” I crumpled my face.“I don’t know what that is but I like it.” He grinned. “Now to the important questions, what are you doing here, Love?” he asked, looking around the corridor like he was disgusted.“I… I am staying with my friend,

  • The Bratva Don's Forced Bride & His Secret Baby   Come bail me

Anya’s POVI couldn’t stop laughing as I got back into the cab. Who knew having Nikolai Vetrov follow me to New York wouldn’t be such a bad idea?I wished he could be gone forever, but who am I kidding? If I don’t show up to sue, he will be out of there in no time. And God knows I don’t want to be anywhere around that man.By the time he is out, I am long gone and wouldn’t have to worry about him. If he wants to end the deal he had with my father, then so be it. I am done putting others before me.I arrived at the apartment where my family’s old housekeeper Ms. Lidiya stays with my kid, Viktor. I was nervous as I knocked on the door, it has been six months since the last time I visited, although I made sure to see him through video calls three times every week.“Who is there?” I heard Lidiya’s voice as footsteps followed. Was she adapting to the American accent already? Her English was so smooth; I guess four years is enough time to learn an accent. As she opened the door, her jaw dro

  • The Bratva Don's Forced Bride & His Secret Baby   Land of Freedom

Nikolai’s POVThe flight reached its destination in a New York Airport. Although we alighted together, I was delayed at the clearance point and so Anya left.“Can you please be faster?” I pressed the man at the desk.“Excuse me Sir, I am just doing my job, okay?” he stared at me, rolling his eyes.I chuckled. If I wasn’t in such a hurry, I will see to it that he had no eyes to roll by this time tomorrow. This might be America but my influence and that of my family lingers beyond the borders of the Atlantic Ocean. Finally, the lowlife staff cleared me and I hurried out of the airport. I caught sight of Anya getting into a taxi.“Anya wait!” I yelled and ran after her but just as I got to the cab, the driver took off.“Fuck!” I cursed and kicked the air in vexation. She brought out her hand and waved at me mockingly. Crazy girl, she must have told the driver to take off.Luck smiled on me the next moment when an empty cab pulled up to me,“Hey! Over here!” I screamed in excitement, hai

  • The Bratva Don's Forced Bride & His Secret Baby   Honeymoon

Anya’s POVHoneymoon? I bet he thinks this is funny. He just cheated on me with his so-called Personal Assistant and doesn’t see it as a big deal. If he thinks he would come here to take me back, then he is the biggest joke of the day.“Attention all passengers, please fasten your seatbelt…” The Pilot’s voice called to our attention.I didn’t want to sit beside him so I went to the chair on the other side of the plane and sat by the widow.“Um… You know that is not your chair, Love.”“Shut up! Call me love one more time and I will bite off your lips!” I cursed as I struggled to fit in the seatbelt.“Oh feisty!” he chuckled. “I wouldn’t mind at all.” He said, looking my way.“Do I even want to know how you found me? You are not even supposed to be here!” I half-yelled in anger.“You don’t sound too excited to see me.”“I wonder why. Maybe you should go back to your Mistress, she would be more excited to see you, I am certain of that.” I retorted. His face dropped and he said nothing. O

  • The Bratva Don's Forced Bride & His Secret Baby   Airport trouble

Anya’s POVThe airport security staff took one glance at my passport and then looked up at me. He whispered something to his colleague who immediately stepped away.I was confused but I had watched too many movies to know that wasn’t good. The way they silently exchanged glances and whispers, something was going on.“Excuse me? Is there a problem?” I queried.“Oh, Ma’am… I am sorry but we will have to ask you to step aside.”“Step aside? Why is that?”“There has been an issue with your passport, we can explain better if you just come with us.” The lady said.Just then, the man who had left returned. “Could you please come with me, Ma’am?”I looked around, there were still a few people on the line behind me. We were all lining up to board the next flight to America. Why was I singled out?I didn’t want to make a scene and so I followed the man away. He took me to a waiting room where I was asked to sit and wait.I sat down, folding my arms. The weather was cold and I hadn’t remembered

  • The Bratva Don's Forced Bride & His Secret Baby   The adventure of true love

Nikolai’s POVI drove back home early in the morning. I knew Lev would be pissed on how I went missing all through the night. As my right hand man and head of security, it was his duty to know my location at all times but I had ignored all calls through the night as I desired to be alone.Arriving at the Vetrov Estate, I headed up the stairs. I needed to talk with Anya, tell her I am sorry, and make things right between us.“Sir, if I could have a word with you.” Yelena said as I passed the hallway.“Not now,” I replied quickly.“It is urgent Sir!” she insisted but I didn’t bother to stop.Whatever concern she had could surely wait. My wife comes first.I was confused when I got to Anya’s room and met the door half-open. For someone who feels so out of place and insecure in my home, she sure does act strange.I fully opened the door and walked in, but something felt off. The bed was made, like she hadn’t slept there last night. I checked the window and it was still closed.“Anya… Are
