The silence shattered like glass.

For a microsecond, the cathedral hung in suspended animation, digesting the absolute impossibility of Adrian Hayes’s words. Then, the explosion came.

A woman in the third row fainted. A tidal wave of murmurs morphed into deafening shouts. Hidden reporters, who had bribed their way into the exclusive event, abandoned all pretense and rushed the center aisle, their camera flashes detonating like strobe lights in a warzone.

And then came the scream.

It was a guttural, agonizing sound that ripped through the chaos. Emma collapsed. Her knees hit the marble floor with a sickening thud, the layers of her custom silk gown pooling around her like a broken swan. She buried her face in her hands, her sobs echoing through the microphone that had fallen from the priest’s podium.

"Emma!" Lena gasped, the paralysis finally breaking. She tried to rip herself away from Adrian’s iron grip, her instincts screaming to comfort her sister, to explain that she hadn't wanted this, that she just wanted to stop a lie. "Em, please, let me explain—"

Before Lena could take a single step, a stinging, violent crack echoed over the noise.

Lena’s head snapped to the side. The taste of copper flooded her mouth. Her cheek burned with a blinding agony.

"You sick, jealous wretch!" Margaret Carter stood over her, her hand raised for a second strike, her face twisted into a mask of pure hatred. "I knew you always envied her, but to ruin her life? To steal her groom at the altar? You are no daughter of mine!"

Tears pricked Lena’s eyes, the physical pain nothing compared to the devastation in her mother’s voice. "Mom, no, you don't understand! The accident, the files, he’s lying to her—"

Margaret swung again.

This time, the blow never landed.

Adrian’s hand shot out, catching Margaret’s wrist mid-air. The force of his grip made the older woman gasp, her eyes widening in terror as she looked up into the lethal, arctic fury of the billionaire’s gaze.

"Touch her again," Adrian said, his voice dropping to a terrifyingly soft register that somehow carried over the screaming crowd, "and I will personally ensure the Carter family ceases to exist in this city."

Margaret violently yanked her hand back, stumbling into the arms of a groomsman.

"Adrian! Are you out of your mind?!" The booming roar belonged to Victor Hayes. The elderly patriarch marched down the aisle, his silver cane striking the marble with lethal precision. His face was purple with rage, surrounded by a wall of Hayes corporate security. "Release that lunatic right now! You are humiliating this family!"

Adrian didn’t loosen his grip on Lena’s waist. He pulled her tighter, shielding her body with his own. "The wedding is over, Victor. Handle the press."

"If you walk out those doors with her," Victor spat, pointing a trembling finger at Lena, "do not bother coming into the office tomorrow. You will be stripped of your CEO title before your car reaches the highway. I will take everything from you."

Lena’s breath hitched. She stared up at Adrian, expecting him to freeze. Expecting the cold, calculating businessman to realize the catastrophic mistake he was making. To drop her and salvage his billion-dollar empire.

Instead, a dark, mocking smirk curled the corner of Adrian’s mouth.

"Keep it," he challenged, without a second of hesitation. "I already have what I want."

Without another word, Adrian snapped his fingers. His elite personal security detail instantly materialized, forming an impenetrable human wall around them.

"Move," Adrian ordered.

He gripped Lena’s hand, lacing his fingers through hers with a bruising intensity, and dragged her down the aisle. The crowd surged forward, shouting vile insults, snapping photos, thrusting microphones into their faces. Lena stumbled, her vision blurring with panic and tears as Emma’s distant sobs continued to haunt her. She was the villain. She had destroyed her family.

The heavy cathedral doors burst open. The blinding afternoon sun hit them as Adrian practically carried her down the stone steps toward a waiting, bulletproof black SUV. His security forcefully shoved back the paparazzi, throwing the back door open.

Adrian shoved Lena inside and slid in right behind her, slamming the door shut.

"Drive," he barked at the chauffeur. "Now."

The tires screeched against the asphalt, throwing Lena back against the leather seat as the SUV tore away from the curb, leaving the ruined wedding—and her entire life—behind.

The shock finally shattered. The adrenaline flooded her veins.

"Let me out!" Lena screamed, thrashing wildly. She kicked at the door, pulling frantically at the locked handle. "Unlock this door! You are a monster! I came to save my sister from you, you psychopath! I don't even know who you are!"

"Stop fighting me!" Adrian grabbed both of her wrists in one massive hand, pinning them firmly against the leather seat. He leaned his body over hers, trapping her completely, his chest heaving as he stared down into her panicked eyes.

"I don't know you!" Lena sobbed, thrashing helplessly beneath his weight.

"Yes, you do." Adrian’s face was inches from hers, his voice losing its coldness, replaced by a raw, desperate intensity. He lowered his head, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered into the stifling silence of the car.

"You don't remember saving me eight years ago? Fine." He pulled back just enough to look deep into her terrified eyes. "Then tell me, Lena... why do you still have nightmares about the man who bled to death on the floor of the abandoned warehouse?"

The air vanished from Lena’s lungs. Her blood turned to ice.

No one knew about the warehouse. Not even her family. No one knew about the nightmares.

How did he know?

The freezing wind howling off the Potomac River did absolutely nothing to cool the apocalyptic hellfire burning in Isabella’s dark eyes. She stepped completely out of the Leviathan pod, her bare, bleeding feet leaving perfect, crimson prints on the immaculate mahogany deck of the stealth yacht. She was a horrifying, magnificent vision of pure, unadulterated sovereign wrath. Her hospital gown was shredded and soaked in radioactive ash and her own blood, her dark hair plastered to her skull, the heavy Vanguard combat knife perfectly balanced in her grip.Helena Vance backed away, the glowing biometric master cylinder trembling violently in her perfectly manicured hand. The eighty-year-old architect of the global shadow government had completely exhausted her contingencies. There were no cartel mercenaries left. No sleeper agents. No blast doors to hide behind. It was just a mother, a daughter, and a river of blood between them."Stay back!" Helena shrieked, her aristocratic velvet compl

The deafening roar of the Potomac River violently breaching the subterranean containment vents was a sound of absolute, world-ending destruction. Millions of gallons of freezing, dark water aggressively exploded through the overhead grates, crashing down into the massive cavern with the kinetic force of a collapsing skyscraper."The Leviathan!" Julian rasped, his massive body violently shuddering against Isabella’s shoulder as he pointed a trembling, blood-slicked hand toward the absolute lowest tier of the catwalk, directly beneath the primary coolant reservoir. "Sector Four wasn't built as a cage, "moya dusha".... it was built as a launchpad."The first wave of freezing river water violently slammed into the searing, irradiated steel of the reactor pit below. The catastrophic temperature collision instantly generated a blinding, suffocating wall of superheated steam. The entire cavern turned into a boiling, pitch-black abyss."Nikolai!" Isabella shrieked, hauling Julian’s dead weigh

Isabella’s fists rained down on the thermal glass with a bone-shattering desperation that completely defied her broken body."Julian!" Her scream did not echo; it was violently swallowed by the dying, suffocating red glow of the sealed lower pit.On the other side of the unbreakable barrier, the King of the underworld was a fallen god. Julian Sterling lay collapsed on the irradiated steel grating, his massive frame completely motionless. The bloody handprint he had left on the glass was already beginning to dry in the catastrophic, baking heat of the sealed chamber. The lead-lined control rods had successfully smothered the nuclear chain reaction, but the residual radiation inside the pit was a localized, lethal oven."He’s not moving, Izzy," Leo whispered, his voice trembling violently as he stumbled back from the dead-man's switch. The boy was completely pale, his psychological conditioning entirely shattered, leaving only a terrified child staring at a mass grave. "The radiation...

Leo screamed, the mechanized sleeper-agent completely obliterated by the raw, human terror of the burning abyss. His fingers were violently cramping, slipping against the heavy spring mechanism of the detonator. "Izzy, my hand is failing!""Hold it, Leo!" "Blow the manual hydraulic release! Now!"Isabella’s scream tore through the pitch-black void of the ICU, instantly swallowed by the deafening, catastrophic siren of the reactor meltdown alarm. The subterranean black site was violently vibrating, the floor completely shuddering as the nuclear core three levels below began its terminal, uncontained chain reaction.Julian didn't hesitate. In the absolute dark, guided entirely by feral, apex instinct, he lunged for the solid steel blast doors. His massive, blood-slicked hands violently gripped the heavy emergency release lever. The electronic locks were dead, frozen by Leo’s system override. With a demonic, world-ending roar, Julian violently forced the lever downward, completely shattering the internal locking pins with brute, kinetic force. "Shoot the glass!" Helena’s command shattered into a raw, terrified shriek, completely stripped of its aristocratic velvet. The suffocating "HISSSSSS" of the ICU’s atmospheric scrubbers reversing polarity aggressively dominated the subterranean room. The atmospheric pressure violently plummeted, popping Isabella’s eardrums and instantly pulling the remaining oxygen directly out of her lungs. The red emergency strobes pulsed like a dying, frantic heartbeat over the stark white tiles.Helena’s dozen armed guards didn't hesitate. They swung their suppressed assault rifles toward the reinforced observation windows of the surgical suite, unleashing a deafening, catastrophic barrage of heavy-caliber fire."CRACK. CRACK. CRACK."Sparks erupted violently in the dark, but the armor-piercing bullets simply flattened against the six-inch-thick ballistic polycarbonate.
